Weft Handling Patents (Class 139/450)
  • Patent number: 4100944
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling and transferring the cut end of a weft to a subsequent sliding shuttle clamp. The weft end is retained in the guide slot of the shuttle supply drum which was occupied by the previous shuttle before it was shot through the shed. A storage lever retracts the cut end of the weft to the intake side of the drum and the weft is then pivoted to the new shuttle.

  • Patent number: 4090535
Abstract: Formation of tucked-in type selvages on a shuttleless weaving loom is carried out in the area in front of the reed by cooperation of a pair of coacting grippers and a cutter, movements of these elements being in the form of a combination of swinging about a fixed point and sliding in the warp direction, the course of movement of the grippers before cutting of the weft end being different from that after cutting of same.

  • Patent number: 4086942
Abstract: A device for weft tensioning adjustment in weaving looms of the type having continuous weft feed, to be applied at the side of the loom. The device comprises - mounted on a single support - a pair of elastic resilient laminae, biased into mutual contact with an adjustable pressure knob and arranged in the path of the weft thread being supplied, for engaging said thread between them and providing for the braking thereof, and an oscillating lever ending with a threadguide, through which eye is passed the weft thread, after engagement between said laminae and before reaching carrying members, said oscillating lever being adjustably urged by spring means to move away from said laminae and from said members, in order to take up slack in said weft thread when it exists.

  • Patent number: 4078586
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a selvage on a fabric woven on a loom in which filling threads are drawn from a stationary supply outside the shed formed by the warp yarns. The method and apparatus includes inserting a first filling through the shed. The ends of the first filling are clamped by a first pair of clamps positioned on opposite sides of the shed which hold the filling in an extended position. The filling thread is beat-up into the fell of the fabric and simultaneously the ends thereof are displaced behind the fell of the fabric for engagement by a second pair of clamps. The filling is then severed outside of the second pair of clamps so that the second pair of clamps continues to hold the ends of the filling in an extended position behind the fell of the fabric. The shed is then changed and the above steps are repeated until a predetermined number of fillings are held by the second pair of clamps.

  • Patent number: 4077497
Abstract: A cylindrical body houses a shaft and is movable with respect thereto. The body carries a first jaw element at one end thereof. A second jaw element is joined to fixed support means connected to the shaft within the body. A compression spring surrounds a portion of the shaft projecting from the opposite end of the body, and the spring urges the jaw elements into clamping relationship. The clamp is opened by moving the body in opposition to the force of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4076052
Abstract: The clips which are used to transfer the yarn, e.g. a ribbon yarn, have clamping surfaces which are disposed in cross-wise manner but at an inclined angle from a true perpendicular. For example, the clamping surfaces of one clip are inclined at an angle of at least 4.degree. from the perpendicular to the clamping surfaces of the other clip. The inclination of the clamping surfaces to each other may be obtained by setting the clamping surfaces at an angle to the jaws of the clips. Also, the clamping surfaces may be twisted within a clip.

  • Patent number: 4074729
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively detaining and releasing a plurality of weft yarns of different natures, typically colors, before a weft yarn is drawn off into the shed of warp yarns in a weaving loom, comprising lever actuated weft pinch-off units each having a condition to retain each of the weft yarns and a condition to release the weft yarn, a weft selector mechanism including lever actuating means for moving each of the levers associated with the pinch-off units and cam means for moving the lever actuating means between positions respectively operable on the levers for the individual pinch-off units, and a weft release control mechanism driven in synchronism with other driven members and units of the loom for driving the lever actuating means alternately between positions in which the lever engaged by the actuating means is operative to hold the associated pinch-off unit in the above-mentioned conditions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4027705
Abstract: A strand advanceable from a supply spool to a weaving machine of the shuttleless type under variable tension is routed through an adjustable braking mechanism. The braking mechanism includes a flat guide plate along which the strand advances, the strand being contacted at longitudinally spaced portions of the guide plate by means of a succession of angularly depending leaf springs which are carried at longitudinal intervals in an overlying holding member. The input end of the holding member is pivotally supported on a frame member that carries the guide plate, and a helical spring biases the holding member obliquely relative to the underlying guide plate so that the distance between the holding member and the guide plate increases in the direction of advance of the strand.

  • Patent number: 3967657
Abstract: A weft control device for shuttleless looms of the type having a pair of spring biased disc elements between which the weft is advanced for insertion into sheds of warp threads. The device is located intermediate the source of weft and the edge of the fabric being formed, and includes a driving apparatus for effecting rotation of the disc elements in a direction that will apply tension to the weft and automatically recover the development of any slack therein in the area intermediate the disc elements and the fabric edge.

  • Patent number: 3961653
Abstract: A weft yarn positioner device for shuttleless looms having a weft engaging member pivotably attached to one end of a depressor arm which by cam controlled linkage moves the weft engaging member in a pathway to engage and present each pick of weft to the means for its insertion into sheds of warp threads. The weft engaging member being pivotably attached to the depressor arm is effective in yielding in a direction, after reception by its insertion means and under tension of the weft, which releases the weft from contact with the weft engaging member.

  • Patent number: 3960186
Abstract: A control device for the weft yarn in shuttleless looms of the single pick insertion type having a selvage forming apparatus on the weft insertion side of the loom. The device includes a weft locating member which is effective in receiving and holding the weft yarn extending from a shed during movement of the loom's lay and reed toward beat-up position. The locating member positions the weft for reception by the selvage forming apparatus and by a cam member operatively associated therewith is effective in causing the weft to assume a position to affect its reception by the gripping element of the inserting carrier during movement of the lay and reed away from beat-up position.
