  • Patent number: 10190271
Abstract: A structural plane is presented for forming a variable depth structure constructed of adjustable modules. Each module is formed of four links connected with revolute joints. The modules are connected at adjacent lateral joints and by upper and lower chords connecting the upper and lower revolute joints of the modules. The ultimate lateral joints of the modules at each end are connected to each end of the structural plane. The adjustable module and other components can form two- and three-hinged arches made of standard rolled steel sections.

  • Patent number: 6631591
Abstract: A carport is provided having a rigid, concave canopy composed of a rigid self-supporting material and which has a width and length larger than that of a standard size automobile. The carport further includes a supporting structure that is rigidly connected to and extends vertically from the canopy. The carport still further includes a horizontally extending longitudinally extending support member that is rigidly secured to the supporting structure and laterally spaced from the canopy.

  • Patent number: 6591567
Abstract: A modular fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) module that interlocks with other similarly designed modules. Specifically, each FRP module has a female, receiver, end and a male, inserter, end such that the inserter of a first FRP module interlocks with, or “snaps into” or “slids into,” a receiver of an adjacent second FRP module. Once interlocked, the two connected FRP modules are further secured by either adhesive and/or thermal connections. An FRP module is made of multiple layers of multi-axial fiber reinforcement and a resin matrix, the layers being continuous throughout the entire shape of the module. An overlay may be placed over the top face of one or more FRP modules joined together to provide a uniform surface. In addition, one or more exterior FRP composite laminates, grids, plates or fabrics may be bonded continuously to the top face.

  • Patent number: 5491861
Abstract: A portable, demountable bridge which can be self-launched. The bridge uses a traditional beam system to conform the deck of the bridge. Two hollow, bottom-plated, triangular footings are added as supports for this beam. These footings, buried into the soil of a riverbank or the bank of a chasm, absorb the horizontal forces using the weight of the soil above the bottom plates of the footings. Sets of vertical plane trusses parallel to the axis of the deck and located on each side of the deck at the entrance, help the beam of the deck to support vertical loads, by means of a transversal truss which touches the beam of the deck at its upper chord. Each set of the additional vertical plane trusses are founded on two bottom plated footings buried into the riverbank or the bank of a chasm. The footing near the water uses the soil as a bearing, and the other footing is used as a counterweight. The bridge also uses the soil of the riverbank or bank of the chasm as a protection against floods.

  • Patent number: 5008967
Abstract: A triangular truss walkout cantilever for displaying railroad warning signals above the individual lanes of a road or highway at a railroad grade crossing is disclosed. The cantilever includes a cantilever arm attached to a vertical roadside mast. The cantilever arm has three parallel truss members that form a triangular cross section. These members are reinforced by a system of struts and braces. A catwalk allows a worker access to the warning signals for maintenance and no braces interfere with such access.

  • Patent number: 4761846
Abstract: A utility bridge suitable for connecting offshore facilities such as offshore platforms is disclosed in which a plurality of helical pipelines provide flow communication between the facilities and relative movement of the facilities in response to environmental forces is provided for by helical pipelines with torsion expansion loops supported by a substantially rigid frame of the utility bridge which has means to prevent coupling of dynamic forces between the respective offshore facilities.
