Combined Machines Patents (Class 140/1)
  • Patent number: 4003413
Abstract: Electrical components having generally parallel leads extending in one direction from one side of their bodies, respectively, are successively transferred to a conveyor means movable through sequential processing stations to prepare the leads for circuit board connection or sequencing preparatory to such connection. Spaced lead grippers on the conveyor means control lead portions adjacent to the bodies of the components. The stations sucessively act to determine the standoff length of the leads from the bodies of the components, reform remaining portions of the leads in coaxial relation while maintaining the standoff length, check for omission of a reformed component from proper position in the series and, upon release from the grippers, tape the coaxial portions of the leads of adjacent components in parallel, side-by-side relation. Preferably, the means for checking reformed component presence also controls turning of a reel for storing the repackaged components.

  • Patent number: 3994188
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting an insulated wire, stripping the end thereof and twisting the wire strands, comprises an insulated wire intermittent supply, cutting blades driven to cut the wire during the stoppage of the wire supply and returned immediately thereafter. Front and rear stripping blades are driven to cut only the insulation of the wire at positions spaced forwardly and rearwardly of the wire cutting position and returned after a predetermined period after return of the cutting blades. A pair of front insulation rotating bars are driven to contact the insulation rearward of the front insulation cutting position and moved in the opposite directions to rotate the insulation thereof while the cut wire length is forcibly moved in the supply direction thereof, whereby the end of the cut wire length is stripped and the strands thereof are twisted.

  • Patent number: 3981333
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus facilitating the mechanized manufacture of intermediately tapped electrical transformers. The apparatus winds coils on open ferromagnetic bobbin-type cores automatically by winding wire around the bobbin cores, pulling the tap, if any, and securing the wires so that they will not unwind. The bobbins are manually loaded into a rotatable turret wheel which sequentially positions them in a work station. A motor driven bail engages the wire and causes the wire to be wrapped around the bobbin located at the work station a predetermined number of times. When the number is reached, a solenoid operated hook grasps the wire, pulls the wire away from the bobbin, forming a loop, and is rotated so as to twist the wire as the bail continues to cause a second predetermined number of turns to be wound on the bobbin. The twisting ultimately causes the wire loop between the first and second sets of windings to snap at the hook creating a winding tap.

  • Patent number: 3974761
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for use in a rolling mill in compacting an upstanding cylindrical product coil. The apparatus includes a compacting station having a base platen divided into laterally spaced sections and an overlying vertically movable upper platen. A transport mechanism is employed to carry a coil laterally from a receiving station into the compacting station at an operative position between the platens. The transport mechanism includes a mandrel extending axially through the coil and an elevator head which is held by the mandrel in a raised position supporting the coil bottom at a level above the base platen. Thereafter, a lowering of the upper platen is accompanied by a corresponding gradual axial retraction of the mandrel and a lowering of the elevator head to the level of the base platen. This results in an axial compaction of the coil between the platens while the mandrel continues to provide internal support for the coil.

  • Patent number: 3973600
Abstract: This invention relates generally to the art of coiling elongated flexible material, and specifically to a system which includes a method and apparatus for continuously and repetitively forming, at one time, one or more discrete of descrete lengths of elongated flexible material from a source of material greater in length than any discrete length, each of said coils being tied off individually preparatory to discharge from the system.

  • Patent number: 3965711
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the continuous treatment of a semi-worked filamentary of strand-like metal material of indefinite length, arranged helically, of which the turns, supported and driven by rotating horizontal shafts, are immersed in a treating agent. An apparatus of this kind comprises two capstans or winches fitted with idle satellites or rollers; two strands of material coming from delivery units are bent thereon and assume the shape of two helices supported and driven respectively by pairs of horizontal shafts, and immersed in a treatment agent contained in a tank. The two helices rotate in opposite directions their turns interpenetrating, so that they guide each other; the size of each turn is regulated at the same time, if it increases, by its possible contact with one of the shafts bearing the other helix, and by the distance, adjustable during operation, between the two shafts of the pair bearing it.
