  • Patent number: 4141389
Abstract: A wire-fastening mechanism has a wire shaping and guiding device and a pivoted hook-shaped needle which co-operate together to fasten a wire to a connector lug by forming a cross loop of wire through a triangular formation of apertures in the lug. The wire shaping and guiding device has two opposed members between which the lug is inserted. Wire guiding grooves are provided in the opposed members to define one and a half turns of a helical channel around which wire is pushed to thread the aperture lugs as the wire passes between wire guiding grooves of the opposed members. The hook-shaped needle receives the leading end of the wire after it has passed through the triangular formation of apertures. Pivoting of the needle draws the leading wire end beneath a run of the wire between two of the apertures thereby to form a cross loop of wire.

  • Patent number: 4062383
Abstract: Bag tying apparatus for tying bags with a resilient tie. The apparatus comprises a tie wrapping plate and a tie twisting mechanism. The tie wrapping plate is linealy movable. The plate has a stepped groove which extends in the moving direction of the plate and an elongated recess which runs across the stepped groove. The resilient tie is placed on the bottom of the elongated recess, and bag is so positioned that its gathered neck to be tied is placed above the tie wrapping plate. As the plate is moved up by an air cylinder unit, the gathered neck of the bag is caught in the stepped groove of the plate. As the gathered neck of the bag enters the narrow section of the stepped groove, the resilient tie is gradually bent and finally substantially U-shaped.The tie twisting mechanism comprises a twist shaft, a pair of twist hooks fixed to the lower end of the twist shaft, and a sprocket wheel secured to the upper end of the twist shaft.

  • Patent number: 4030407
Abstract: Pneumatic apparatus for drawing binding strip from a stock roll, winding a length of the strip around a bunch of water cress, severing that length from the strip stock and twisting the ends of the length of strip together to form a tie around the bunch. The apparatus includes a two-armed lever. One of the arms is arcuate and has a profiled end which is adapted to engage the leading end of the length of strip and, as the lever is swung about its fulcrum, to push that leading end around the bundh into a bight in the periphery of an apertured disc. The trailing end of the length of strip is located within the aperture of the disc so that it is held from following the leading end. The disc is rotated to twist the two ends together and the lever is then swung back so that the other arm ejects the bound bunch from the apparatus.
