  • Patent number: 6722396
Abstract: A method in which large-volume gas containers, for example, airships having a gas holding capacity of, for example, 400,000 m3, can be filled with a process gas, includes first completely filling the container with an auxiliary gas, the density of which differs from that of the process gas. The process gas is then quiescently introduced into an upper area of the gas container in such a way that no significant mixing with the air occurs and, at the same time, the auxiliary gas is removed by suction from the lower area of the gas container. To purify the contents of the gas container, purified or fresh process gas is quiescently introduced into the upper area of the gas container in such a way that no significant mixing with the contaminated process gas present in the gas container. At the same time, the contaminated process gas is removed by suction from the lower area of the gas container. To empty the gas container, the above-described process is reversed.

  • Patent number: 6719016
Abstract: A pressurized container includes a vessel defining a chamber therein. A housing that is connected to the vessel defines an outlet that is fluidly separated from the chamber by a closure member. A moveable member may be seated within and form a seal with the housing and abut the closure member. Activation of an initiator propels the moveable member through the closure member, thereby fluidly connecting the chamber and the outlet. The pressurized container might include an obstruction partially blocking an outlet path and another initiator that breaks the obstruction when activated, thereby further opening the outlet path. The pressurized container might include a main path fluidly connected to the outlet, a first secondary path that connects the main path to the chamber, and a second secondary path that also connects the main path to the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6662832
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for filling one or more containers with flowable material such as cereals, grain or rice. Flowable material is transferred via a material guide into filling stations. The material guide or the filling stations can be moved between a first position in which all the flowable material input is guided into the first container, and a second position in which all the flowable material input is guided into the second container. At intermediate positions between the first and second positions, the flowable material input is divided between the first and second containers. The proportion of flowable material entering each of the containers is varied to enable a nearly full container to be topped up to the desired level while maintaining control over the flow and at the same time rapidly filling another container. The filling stations, at which the containers are located, may be positioned in various configurations.

  • Patent number: 6196277
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for filling barrels (4), specially kegs, with liquids, wherein at least one gas is dissolved. The barrel (4) is pre-stressed using a gas before the liquid is filled. Liquid is then fed into the barrel (4) by means of a filling valve (2) pertaining to a filling station (1) and connected to a feed line (3, 8). During filling, the pre-stress gas contained in the barrel (4) is evacuated. In order to guarantee economical and ecological product processing, the pre-stress gas in the barrel (4) is pre-stressed at only a partial pressure which corresponds approximately to the saturation pressure of the CO2 or N2 which is dissolved in the filled liquid. The flow rate speed is measured in the product feed line and is directly adjusted by adapting the volumetric flow rate of said product.

  • Patent number: 6148874
Abstract: A machine and method for filling bags with liquid through spouts attached to the bags, wherein a piston within a filling head that operates to control flow of the liquid from the filling head is also extended out of the filling head and into the spout, after the bag is filled, in order to push remaining material from the spout and through is bottom opening into the bag. The spout bottom opening is then closed, after which any remaining material adhering to the walls inside the spout and surfaces of the filling head are cleaned by forming a chamber between them through which a cleaning fluid is passed. This machine and method are particularly useful when filling bags with highly viscous and/or sticky liquids, such as thick food products. They avoid a result of having either to distribute messy bags of product with material remaining adhered to the outside of the spout and/or bag, or to first remove this material by an additional cleaning step.

Abstract: Sandbag filling apparatuses and methods of forming sandbag filling apparatuses are described. In one embodiment, a light-weight sandbag filling apparatus includes a base which is placable on the ground proximate a pile of sand. A support member is connected with the base and extends away therefrom. A pair of spaced-apart, sand-intake funnels are supported on opposite sides of the support member. The funnels include respective inlets and outlets and are positioned by the support member above the ground a distance which is sufficient to enable both (a) a person standing on the ground proximate the sand pile to shovel amounts of sand directly into the inlets, and (b) a person or persons to hold a sandbag adjacent one or both of the outlets to receive sand amounts which are shoveled directly into the associated inlet. In another embodiment, a sandbag filling apparatus includes a base, a support post connected with the base and extending away therefrom along a long axis.

Abstract: A receptacle is provided for receiving soft fragile tablets from a tablet press. The receptacle includes a drum with a soft bag mounted therein. The bag is supported by a suspension system which automatically lowers the bag from an empty raised position to a loaded lower position, in response to the weight of the tablets in the bag. The suspension system maintains a constant drop distance for the tablets between the discharge chute of the tablet press and the bag, thereby minimizing damage to the tablets during the transfer process. The bag is porous to permit air treatment for hardening of the tablets after the tablets are received in the bag.
