Patent number: 5458167Abstract: An automatic filling system for a compressed gas tank includes a controller that measures the rate of fill of a tank being filled in order to provide an accurate estimate of the fill time for the tank, given available source pressure. The controller maintains a high set level and a low set level for banks or compressed gas reservoirs, and the controller automatically cycles a compressor to fill the banks when one of the banks falls below the respective low set pressure. Additionally, when the compressor is running to fill one of the banks, all of the banks are topped off to the high set pressure in order to minimize compressor cycling. The controller automatically directs compressed air to a booster pump when available bank pressure is insufficient to complete a filling operation. In this way filling operations are completed when a compressor is not available, or when it would be undesirable to cycle a compressor.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1993Date of Patent: October 17, 1995Assignee: R. M. Schultz & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Richard M. Schultz, Arthur M. Koch, Donald F. Kick, Andrew K. Miraldi

Patent number: 5454408Abstract: A variable-volume compressed natural gas ("CNG") storage vessel connected to a line supplying pressurized natural gas is described. The vessel connects to a dispensing station having a connection head--a fitting that allows a vehicle tank quickly and easily to be interconnected with and disconnected from the dispensing station. When a vehicle tank is being filled, or alternatively when a storage vessel is being replenished from the gas supply line, a controller responds to the pressure within the storage vessel to vary the volume of that vessel.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1993Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Assignee: Thermo Power CorporationInventors: Francis A. Patent number: 5431203Abstract: An automatic filling system for a compressed gas tank includes a controller that measures the rate of fill of a tank being filled in order to provide an accurate estimate of the fill time for the tank, given available source pressure. Compressed gas flow is controlled with on/off valves that are driven open by a motor/gearbox/clutch combination to reduce thermal and physical shocks associated with opening of the valve. Whenever power is removed from the clutch, a spring automatically drives the valves closed quickly to provide fail-safe operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1993Date of Patent: July 11, 1995Assignee: R. Patent number: 5429166Abstract: An apparatus for regulating the pneumatic pressure of a tire according to the invention calculates the pressure difference between the specified pneumatic pressure entered therein through an input section and the actual pneumatic pressure of a tire measured by a pressure sensor and operates its air charging or discharging valve by specifying an extent of openness of the valve and a time for keeping the valve open as a function of the obtained pressure difference. Thereafter, it calculates the rate of change in the pneumatic pressure of the tire from the actual pneumatic pressure of the tire measured for the second time during the valve is kept open and, at the same time, the pressure difference between the specified pneumatic pressure value and the actual pneumatic pressure of the tire measured for the second time.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1993Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: Fujikura Ltd.Inventors: Hidenobu Anzai, Moritaka Gotoh, Minoru Tanaka

Patent number: 5293910Abstract: The invention provides an improved pneumatically operated circuit for automatically shutting off the flow of high pressure air being introduced into an object to be inflated, such as a tire, when the pressure in the object reaches a preselected maximum pressure significantly below that of the high pressure supply. The air at high pressure is introduced into the object and into a control duct also connected to the object, until pressure in the control duct overcomes the bias of a control valve, at which time the control valve closes to interrupt the flow of high pressure air and allow pressure in the object and the control duct to equilibrate; if the equilibrated pressure does not continue to overcome the bias of a control valve, the control valve again opens to admit additional high pressure air to the object and control duct until the bias of the control valve again is overcome and the control valve closed as previously, repeating the closing cycle.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1991Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Assignee: Bruno Wessel LimitedInventor: Michael C. Patent number: 5174354Abstract: A carbonated beverage delivery system having at least two syrup storage tanks. Each storage tank is provided with a valve that allows air to vent from the tank during delivery, acts as a nozzle to deliver cleaning solution during clean-up operations and, most significantly, meters the amount of fluid delivered to the tank and prevents inadvertent overfill. The tanks are also provided with a syrup feed pipe and drain pipe for filling and discharging the tank, respectively. The drain pipe can be connected to a mixing valve that also receives carbon dioxide and water from separate sources. These components are mixed at the mixing valve to create the desired carbonated beverage which is then delivered to a beverage dispenser. The feed pipe can be connected to a delivery truck supply tank such that its supply of syrup can be replenished. The volume of syrup carried by the truck supply tank is less than the total volume of all the storage tanks to be filled from the supply tank.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1991Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Minnesota Valley Engineering, Inc.Inventors: Timothy A. Patent number: 5152745Abstract: By means of the invention, the pressure in a cavity can be measured, without ever reducing the gas flow to zero. This is achieved by bleeding an intermediate vessel slightly with its inlet valve closed and its outlet valve open and then being able to extrapolate from the pressure decrease whether the desired pressure has been reached. If the result of the extrapolation indicates that the desired pressure has not been reached, then pumping is repeated, measuring is repeated and so on and so forth until the extrapolation indicates that the desired pressure has been reached. Thus extrapolations are made instead of allowing the intermediate vessel to empty completely.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1990Date of Patent: October 6, 1992Inventors: Rolf Steiner, Volker Walz
