  • Patent number: 5579814
Abstract: A method and apparatus for charging a damper with pressurized gas by forming a flow passage between the dust lip of the oil seal and the piston rod. The flow passage is formed by locally deforming the dust lip under the action of a distortion clamp. A source of pressurized gas is then placed in communication with the flow passage. The pressurized gas causes the oil seal to be displaced away from the piston rod, and the gas enters the damper between the oil seal and the piston rod. When the gas within the damper has attained the desired pressure, the distortion clamp is released allowing the dust lip to return to normal circumferential contact with the piston rod, and the source of pressurized gas is removed. The pressurized gas is retained in the damper after charging by the seal engaging the rod.

  • Patent number: 5299608
Abstract: A coupling arrangement connects a container of concentrated cleaning fluid to a dispensing apparatus in a carpet cleaning machine. To facilitate the required fluid connection, the container is fitted with a plug having one port at its center and a second port radially disposed from the center port and positioned within an annular groove concentric with the center port. The distance from the center port to the second port in the plug is equal to the distance between corresponding central and radial ports in the dispenser. When the container is rotated to engage the dispenser and advance it into position, the center port of the plug and central port of the dispenser align since they are on the same axis. The radial port of the dispenser is aligned with the annular groove in the plug, enabling fluid communication with the second port in the plug irrespective of the rotational orientation.

  • Patent number: 5220948
Abstract: A dosing assembly (80) is used to controllably fill a syringe (4), held within a syringe holder (50), from a vial (2) of the type including a piston (18) mounted within a container (14). The syringe holder (50) is threadably mounted (52, 36) to the vial with the needle cannula (72) piercing the piston to permit the syringe holder to be driven against the piston in a controlled manner to accurately meter the pharmaceutical introduced into the syringe. The dosing assembly includes a rotary drive (82, 88, 110, 118, 126) which rotates the syringe holder about the syringe holder axis, thus driving the syringe against the piston, as the syringe holder and syringe therewith are rotated about an axis situated 90.degree. from the syringe axis. This causes the pharmaceutical within the vial to be forced through the needle cannula and into the syringe; the amount of the dose in the syringe depends upon how far the user rotates the syringe holder using the rotary drive.

  • Patent number: 5154213
Abstract: An adapter for a fuel container. The fuel container has an outlet/inlet and an annular cap to be received on the outlet/inlet. The cap has shoulder around the upper surface to overlap the inlet/outlet and the adapter comprises of a flange to be trapped between the outlet/inlet and the cap. A pipe mounting on the adapter allows a pipe to extend from the adapter towards the bottom of the fuel container. There is a passageway through the adapter so that the adapter can be trapped between the outlet/inlet and the cap to allow access to the fuel in the container. By this means, a jerry can need not be moved around within, for example, a boat fitted with an outboard motor. At the appropriate time the fuel line to the main supply tank for the motor can be disconnected from that main fuel tank and quickly attached to the adapter thus avoiding the possibility of fuel leakage.

  • Patent number: 4969493
Abstract: A manually-operated device for safely inflating automotive vehicle tires. A pressurized gas cylinder is connected to a manual valve for delivery of pressurized gas to a vehicle tire. The gas pressure is safely controlled (regulated) by a stepped piston that is slidably arranged in a vent chamber. A small diameter rod section of the piston is aligned with a valve seat in the main flow passage. Pressure rise on the large diameter section of the piston causes the rod section to temporarily interrupt the main gas flow. Gas is vented around the large diameter section of the piston to enable the rod section to move away from the associated valve seat, thereby permitting gas flow to resume through the main passage.

  • Patent number: 4494586
Abstract: The invention relates to a safety device for an interlocking mechanism between two sealed enclosures such as found in biological or nuclear environments and which prevents accidental opening of one or the other of two doors closing off the enclosures, which prevents leakage from the enclosures and which may be readily retrofitted to an existing locking system. The locking system comprises a locking ring (36) rotatable between an inoperative position and a locking position for locking the two enclosures and an operating lever for locking the two doors. The safety device includes two locking mechanisms electrically controlled by four prepositioned detection means on the form of microswitches for locking and unlocking the two locking mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4256160
Abstract: My invention particularly relates to an apparatus designed to provide the means of checking and replenishing the air supply in a pneumatic spare tire that is stowed in a specially designed carrier or receptacle located in a rearward underslung and inaccessible location as has been adapted to many motor vehicles in use today, including various foreign and U.S. manufactured pick-up trucks, station wagons, recreational vehicles, sports cars such as the U.S. manufactured Chevrolet Corvette and to a lesser extent certain compact automobiles. This represents a departure from the traditional practice of enclosing the spare tire either in a closed compartment or trunk within the body of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4182388
Abstract: A fluid coupling system employs a cap assembly and a connector assembly to provide a leakproof fluid coupling between a liquid container and a device requiring liquid. The cap assembly consists of a cap, a filler valve assembly, a spring and a cap gasket. The connector assembly includes a pusher stem and a cap guide which operate to provide a sealed fluid passageway thereby preventing any fluid leakage. A tank bay is also utilized to contain any accidental fluid leakage.
