Cutter Guiding Cam Patents (Class 144/142)
  • Patent number: 11292076
Abstract: A friction spot joining device configured to carry out friction spot joining of a pair of plates includes an advance-retreat drive configured to advance and retreat a tool to/from the plates a rotation drive configured to rotate the tool, and a controller configured to control the advance-retreat drive and the rotation drive. The controller executes a joining control in which the tool is caused to give pressure to the plates while the tool is rotated so that the tool is pushed into the plates, and a separating control in which the tool is separated from the plates when an integrated value (P=ID×?T) calculated using a current value (ID) of the rotation drive during the joining control and a driving period of time (?T) during the joining control is determined to be reached a target value.

  • Patent number: 4387751
Abstract: An elongated upright open framework defines a vertical workpiece passageway intermediate the frame sides and ends open toward one end of the frame bottom portion for horizontally receiving workpieces from a laterally disposed feed conveyor. The frame supports a carriage for reciprocation between its ends which is driven by a drive motor and a drive train. Pairs of clamp jaws, disposed at respective end portions of the carriage, are opened and closed by carriage movement to grip and release the respective workpiece end portions as it travels with the carriage. One pair of clamp jaws is moved by cam rollers following a cam groove on inner surfaces of the frame to contact one end portion of the workpiece with rotary cutters disposed above and below the travel path of the carriage as the carriage moves to a workpiece release position. A drive motor operated conveyor discharges the finished workpiece from the frame.

  • Patent number: 4273170
Abstract: An apparatus trims woodwind instrument reed material for use in bassoons and the like in a precise and efficient manner. A cylindroid section of reed material is attached to the apparatus for rotation about its longitudinal axis. A cam, journalled in parallel relation to the reed material, defines a gradient to be trimmed thereon. The reed material and cam are interlocked for rotation in fixed parallel relation. A reed cutting assembly is pivotally disposed above the reed material and the cam and is movable about the longitudinal axes thereof. The cutting assembly includes a cam follower adjacent the cam and a blade in contacting relation with the reed material. The cutting assembly trims the gradient defined by the cam onto the reed material. The trimming is done by rotating the interlocked reed support and cam assembly about the longitudinal axis of the reed material, while linearly moving the cutting assembly along the longitudinal axis of the reed material.

  • Patent number: 3957095
Abstract: The rough hewn bench plane attachment of the present invention allows a standard bench plane to be converted into a hewing tool that is able to create hewn lumber similar in shape and design to hand-hewn lumber. The attachment incorporates a chassis assembly mounted under the front knob of the bench plane. An eccentric rolling assembly connects to the chassis assembly and causes an eccentric rolling effect as it rolls over the lumber. This eccentric movement of the wheels causes the bench plane to correspondingly move in an eccentric manner with respect to the workpiece so that a cutting iron of the invention replacing the regular cutting iron of the plane generates varying depth gouges in the lumber workpiece. The cutting iron of the invention has an arcuate cutting edge that enhances the hewing of the lumber by varying the transverse depth of the cutting edge in the lumber workpiece.
