Patent number: 5636428Abstract: A blade arrangement for cutting dados that includes magnetic dado spacers, which firmly adhere through magnetic attraction to the dado blades, is disclosed. Also, with the blade arrangement of the present invention, problems due to blade vibrations are reduced. The cutting width is conveniently measured and adjusted without having to repeatedly install and remove the nut, since the magnetic dado spacers hold adjacent blades firmly together, before they are tightened. Additionally, the use of magnetic dado spacers reduces the possibility of the spacers falling into and becoming caught in the thread of an arbor. A further advantage is that the magnetic dado spacers are much quicker and easier to install than prior art dado spacers.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Tom DeckerInventor: Johannes Van Mourik

Multiple saw blade adjustable dado cutter assembly including a cam assembly and nestable dado blades
Patent number: 5309962Abstract: A multiple saw blade adjustable dado cutter assembly. The cutter can be used with a table saw or a radial arm saw, for example, to make dado cuts in board lumber. A pair of cooperating cams, each connected to a saw blade, can be adjusted to make a dado cut of a desired width. If the desired dado width is wider than the two blade configuration can cut, a center cam attached to another blade can be inserted between the pair of cooperating cams. With the three blade configuration, the three cams cooperate to allow the three blades to be spaced for the desired width of cut. In both configurations and at any spacing width, the two or three blades employed remain in a generally parallel alignment and transverse to the axis of the arbor on which the assembly is secured. To permit the blades to function with this geometrical relationship and to be adjustable, not all of the blade teeth lie in the same plane. The sequentially operating three or more cam assembly has uses beyond dado cutting.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: Wilfred M. Patent number: 4561477Abstract: A woodworking machine to form finished dimensional lumber from cants by a single pass of the cants through the machine and comprising compression and feed rollers above and below a longitudinal path and parallel longitudinally offset arbors respectively are mounted above and below the path upon which spaced saw blades are mounted with opposed blades in common planes and of diameters adequate to form complete cuts through a cant during a single pass, the arbors also supporting between the blades additional cutters to plane the edges of the dimensional lumber and form rounded edges thereon.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1984Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Inventor: Edwin H. Patent number: 4350308Abstract: A shredder structure, components, and sub-combinations thereof, useful for shearing, shredding, and/or chopping a variety of materials such as municipal and industrial solid waste products, vehicle tires, and other materials desired to be comminuted. The hopper of the structure is preferably hinged to provide easy access to the made-up shaft. The shaft carries a series of rotating bladeholders keyed to the shaft and provided with radial protrusions and contiguous slots accommodating fitted-blade placement. The rotating bladeholders are spaced apart by spacers which serve not only to mutually space the rotating bladeholders, but also to support the sides of the rotating blades so as to form with the bladeholder slot pockets or seats for such blades. Particular support structure is used for the stationary blade employed, with which the individual rotating blades on each bladeholder co-act.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Garbalizer Corp. of AmericaInventor: John C. Patent number: 4180107Abstract: Apparatus for eradicating tree stumps comprising a rotary cylinder or drum having knives or teeth around its periphery. The teeth include both cutter teeth and chipper teeth. The primary purpose of the chipper teeth is to hog out and remove the fibrous wood material. The primary purpose of the cutter teeth is to break up and cut or slit the fibers so that they may be more easily hogged out by the chipper teeth.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1977Date of Patent: December 25, 1979Assignee: Ram Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ross D. Patent number: 4137956Abstract: A wood incisor for perforating the surfaces of a rectangularly cross-sectioned elongate board preparatory to preservative treatment is comprised of sets of paired horizontal and vertical drums arranged in a manner to provide a rectangular passageway of adjustable height and width for passing various sized boards, with each drum having a plurality of outwardly protruding cutting teeth. Each set of drums includes a fixed drum which is driven, and an idler drum which is slideable with respect to its associated fixed drum by actuation of positioning hydraulic cylinders to provide the adjustability of the passageway therebetween. Each of the positioning hydraulic cylinders is joined end-to-end with a cushioning hydraulic cylinder which is connected hydraulically to an accumulator tank containing pressurized hydraulic fluid and air. Thus the position of each idler drum relative to its associated fixed drum is responsive to the lateral force imparted to that set of drums by the board passing therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1977Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Inventor: Lloyd H. Patent number: 4068688Abstract: A stacked disc cutter assembly for producing finger joints including a plurality of discs, each of which has a plurality of cutter teeth secured to and projecting radially outwardly therefrom. The discs are of substantially similar outer diameter and when assembled and secured together in side-by-side, contiguous, concentric relationship they form a solid cylindrical core for the assembly. The cutter teeth projecting radially outwardly from the discs and so arranged on the discs that they are spaced apart both axially and circumferentially of the cutter assembly. SUBACKGROUND AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThis invention relates to a stacked disc cutter assembly for producing finger joint cuts in material, and more particularly to such a stacked disc finger joint cutter assembly wherein cutter teeth thereon are spaced apart both axially and circumferentially about the assembly. In the past, various types of cutter devices have been designed for producing finger joints in material such as wood.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1975Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: Industrial Carbide Tooling IncorporatedInventor: George E. Patent number: 4041996Abstract: Apparatus for eradicating tree stumps comprising a rotary cylinder or drum having knives or cutters around its periphery. The cutters are mounted on rings which encircle the drum. The rings have circumferentially spaced mounting surfaces which are staggered relative to one another so that the cutters when secured to the mounting surfaces are themselves staggered for more effective cutting action. The drum is supported by two rotary hydraulic and/or electric motors having aligned output shafts which are connected to the ends of the drum to support and also to rotate it. The motors are carried by the arms of a yoke. Instead of two motors, there may be a motor at one end of the drum and a bearing at the other.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1975Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Assignee: Ram Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ross D. Patent number: 3986543Abstract: A rotary cutter knife in which a body is provided which is made up of coaxial discs in adjacent relation. Each disc has cutting edge portions distributed about the periphery thereof and in one relatively rotated position of the discs the cutting edge portions align in the axial direction thereby positioning the cutting edge portions for easy sharpening. In another rotated position of the discs, the cutting edge portions are staggered and the cutting load on the cutter knife is thereby distributed circumferentially during working operations of the cutter knife. Cooperating elements of keying means are provided for keying the discs in the two relatively rotated positions thereof.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1975Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Kimball International, Inc.Inventors: J.
