Abstract: An airborne vegetation cutting assembly aerially suspended by an aircraft to simultaneously grapple and trim vegetation across a cutting plane that can be rotated and pivoted at multiple cutting angles. The assembly comprises a housing that contains the hydraulic mechanism and a power portion for operating the components. A tube extends from the aircraft to the housing. A knuckle detachably attaches the housing to the tube. Upper and lower grappling devices extend from the housing in a coplanar, spaced-apart relationship. The grappling devices grapple and release the vegetation independently of each other. A blade is coplanar with the grappling devices. The blade cuts a cross section of the vegetation along a cutting plane after the grappling devices grapple the vegetation. A connective knuckle rotates and pivots to enable rotational and pivotal control of the grappling devices and the blade, so as to change the orientation of the cutting plane.

Abstract: Tree stump grinding teeth for use in tree stump grinding wheel assemblies and tree stump grinding wheel assemblies that include one or more such grinding teeth. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the grinding tooth includes a mounting base having a substantially flat surface from which a plurality of cleats project. The cleats are adapted to be received in corresponding bores formed in the wheel. A resilient impact pad is positioned between the mounting base of the grinding tooth and the wheel. The resilient impact pad protects the surface of the wheel from impact forces applied to the grinding tooth.

Abstract: The invention relates to a chipper knife of the type that is adapted to be mounted in chippers which have a rotatable tool, in the form of a disc, drum or frustoconical member, on which are mounted a plurality of such chipper knives to provide, during rotation of the tool and simultaneous feeding of pieces of wood to the same, material-cutting working or disintegrating of the pieces of wood into chips by means of at least one cutting edge (1, 1?). At least a first side of the chipper knife has a raw, unworked surface or working stripes in the longitudinal direction of the chipper knife, that is substantially parallel to the cutting edge. This first side also has a thickened cutting edge portion (5, 5?) in the area next to the cutting edge, which edge portion has working stripes in the transverse direction of the chipper knife, at an angle to the cutting edge. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a chipper knife.

Abstract: A high speed planer head. A threaded member having a frustoconical portion wedges against a knife, to clamp a knife to a hub for rotating the knife about an axis of revolution. The knife has a front and back side, two cutting edges and mirror image symmetry about a mirror plane passing through the knife. To cut both a planar face and two opposed, radiused corners, the cutting edges include respective linear face-cutting portions disposed between two concave, arcuate corner-cutting portions.

  • Patent number: 7634897
Abstract: A rotary cutting machine comprises a circular rotating element having a transverse axis of rotation and which is mounted to the rotary cutting machine for rotation about the axis of rotation. A plurality of cutting teeth are mounted to the circular rotating element at spaced apart locations about its circumferential periphery. The cutting teeth are reversible and removably fastened to the circular rotating element. Each cutting tooth includes opposed first and second cutting faces spaced apart by lateral surfaces extending therebetween. The first and second cutting faces define at least four of the cutting edges thereon, such that the cutting teeth are selectively mountable on the circular rotating element in any one of at least eight different positions, each of the positions providing a different one of the cutting edges in the operable cutting position.

Abstract: The cylindrical shank of a rotatable tool is retained in the cylindrical bore of a tool holder by a retainer that engages an annular groove on a portion of the shank of the tool that extends outward of the rear surface of the tool holder. The tool has an axial bore in the distal end of the shank. The retainer has a pair of spaced ridges that engage the annular groove on the shank and a panel that extends across the distal end of the shank. The retainer is held in place by a pin extending through the panel and into the bore in the distal end of the shank.

Abstract: A debarking blade includes an elongate blade body having an attachment end, an opposed free end, and an arcuate concave inner edge surface extending between the opposing ends and adapted to face generally inwardly toward the rotational axis of the ring rotor. A detachable cutting tip having a cutting edge thereon is releasably mounted on the free end of the blade body for engaging and debarking a log. A detachable climbing edge insert is releasably mounted on the blade body between the attachment end and the free end. • Publication number: 20090133778
Abstract: A knife includes first and second edges, a ridge, a concave surface, and a planar surface. The edges are defined by intersections of outer edge forming surfaces on an outer side of the knife and inner edge forming surfaces on an inner side of the knife. The ridge is on the inner side and the crest of the ridge is parallel to the first and second edges. The concave surface is between an inner edge forming surface and the ridge, and the planar surface is adjacent to the concave surface and between that first inner edge forming surface and the concave surface. A reference plane intersects the first and second edges, and a distance between any point on the concave surface and the reference plane is not less than a distance between any point on the planar surface and the reference plane.
