Patent number: 6217124Abstract: A method for manufacturing a sweeper or abrasive element is disclosed. The abrasive element is manufactured from a U-shaped plastic profile having an aperture in which are placed abrasive lamellae, supporting bristles and heat-dissoluble plastic threads. By heating above the plasticization temperature of the plastic, total embedding of the bristles and abrasive lamellae occurs thereby forming an integral unit. This ensures that the bristles and/or abrasive lamellae will not separate during use of rotating abrasive or polishing tools in which the abrasive elements are included. As the abrasive elements are of plastic material they are flexible and able to adapt to different diameters of abrasive or polishing tools. Patent number: 6125495Abstract: A tubular type brush for use in a cleaning machine includes a generally cylindrical driver tube adapted to be rotated about its axis for use in cleaning an adjacent floor surface. The driver tube has an exterior surface with circumferentially and axially located bristles extending outwardly therefrom. The bristles extend, when the driver tube is in an at rest position, in a direction which is closer to parallel with the driver tube exterior surface than perpendicular to the driver tube exterior surface. The bristles have tips which move outwardly from the driver tube exterior surface as the tube rotates, with the degree of the outward movement being dependent, at least in part, upon rotary speed of the driver tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Tennant CompanyInventors: David W. Patent number: 6016584Abstract: Loose material is transferred from a surface primarily laterally outward with respect to a forward direction of movement. A plurality of elongated strip brush members are oriented at a predetermined acute angle and moved in an oval rotational pattern about a rotational axis and simultaneously in longitudinal movement parallel to the rotational axis. The movement of the strip brush members induces substantially more pushing movement on the loose particles in a direction laterally outward parallel to the rotational axis than in a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis. The strip brush members contact with and withdraw from the surface in a substantially vertical orientation.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1998Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: M-B Companies, Inc. of WisconsinInventor: Irving L. Patent number: 5819357Abstract: Brush bristle assemblies are formed into strips with strips of length of thermoplastic monofilaments which are mutually fused at their bottoms and formed into coupling bars with snaps fastening heads. The bars are slidably coupled to linear or helical channels or slots formed in rotary driven brush drum bristle substrates. In one form, the individual monofilament lengths are bent to form dart shaped loops. The bent thermoplastic lengths are longitudinally stacked with the apices of the contiguous loops being mutually fused to form a bristle strip. A hand brush is formed of a bunch of polypropylene filaments, the bottom section of which being mutually fused and shaped to form a bristle base and handle.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1997Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Inventor: Frances Gould

Patent number: 5755003Abstract: An end brush and a method of making the brush is disclosed using the automatic distribution and insertion of the bristle fill material into the cup of a cup-shape shank holder. A centered drive stem projects from the bottom of the holder. After a measured amount of the fill material is inserted through fill tubes and a guide funnel, a centering core insert is forced into the center of the cup to distribute the fill material around and against the interior wall of the cup. The material is cut to proper length and in the same or a separate station the exterior wall of the cup of the holder is deformed or crimped inwardly girdling the core securing and centering the core and material in the holder. Axial ribs are also formed which improves transfer of heat from the holder improving tool life. Preferably the insert is softer than the fill material and may also be softer than the holder. A wide variety of fill materials may be employed as well as various shapes of inserts and holders.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1997Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Jason, Inc.Inventors: Robert L. Patent number: 5606762Abstract: A roller brush and method of making same for sweeping machines for cleaning streets and roads. The brush includes cassettes arranged in brackets around the periphery of a roller and extending in the longitudinal direction of the roller. The cassettes receive spring members, such as radially projecting bristles, the ends of which are brought in contact with ground when the brush is used for cleaning. The cassettes are received in grooves in the brackets. The spring members are bent double around a locking wire which acts to hold the members in the cassettes and which passes through holes in connecting cross walls extending from facing long sides of the cassettes. The connecting cross walls are provided at spaced locations along the cassette thereby defining cells on the cassette. The spaced connecting cross walls act to increase the rigidity of the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1994Date of Patent: March 4, 1997Assignee: Filippa I V aster.ang.s HBInventors: Walter Droeser, Hans Ekholm
