Abstract: The present invention relates to vacuum cleaners which may be in the form of so-called upright and cylinder cleaners. In the vacuum cleaner according to the invention the functions of air movement and rotation of a rotary beater or brush are separated. This results in a more flexible product, less possibility of damage to a belt driving the beater and gives a ready means for stopping the beater when the cleaner is parked. The vacuum cleaner includes a main body, a first portion and an electric fan housing coupled to a first aperture of an air duct, the first portion including a suction opening adjacent a beating means, a turbine coupled to a second aperture of the air duct and a drive line coupling between the turbine and the beating means, whereby cleaned air is directed through the duct to the turbine.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaner main cleaning chassis has a pair of suction air channels leading from a principal suction area thereof. Suction force is provided in common in the air channels with a single suction motor. One of the suction air channels is adapted to receive an auxiliary cleaning hose which diverts the suction force in such air channel into the auxiliary hose. During such auxiliary cleaning, increased suction force may be created in the auxiliary hose by closing off air flow in the other suction air channel, which relieves part of the load on the common suction motor. Such relief results in increased rotational speed of the motor, which in turn correspondingly increases the suction air flow in the air channel associated with the auxiliary hose.
Abstract: In an apparatus for picking up dog excrement in conjuction with a street sweeper, which picks up by suction over a suction duct, a separating container for the dog excrement picked up is connected ahead of the dirt container of the street sweeper, the two containers being joined to each other over a suction line. By these means, contamination of the sweeper is avoided.

Abstract: The improvement in a rotary vacuum or suction sweeper of the type wherein vacuum of suction is created underneath the carriage body of a wheeled vehicle by the driven rotation of blower impeller means, within a blower housing comprising a part of the carriage body. Thereby as the sweeper is moved over an area to be cleaned by an operator pushing or pulling a handle extending angularly upwardly from the vehicle in the manner in which one pushes a rotary lawn mower, dirt and debris are sucked up below the carriage body and delivered into a catch bag disposed over duct means extending rearwardly from the rotor impeller housing. With the present invention, a plate valve is interposed in such duct means, which valve, when closed, diverts the air flow from its normal path back into the catch bag, to a forwardly facing duct to which is attached a hoselike element having an open discharge end. Articulated control means are provided to extend downwardly and adjacent the machine operating handle.
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has a casing with an internal duct connecting the air outlet of the vacuum cleaner fan with a discharge aperture. The casing has one or more primary apertures formed in its wall and communicating through the interior of the casing with one or more secondary apertures in the duct wall, whereby the air flow through the duct induces a secondary flow of ambient air through the primary apertures. This secondary air flow effects a cooling of the casing wall and a reduction of the temperature of the discharged air. An apertured internal partition may be provided for locally reducing the cross-section of the coolant air flow path, thereby insuring a uniform cooling effect upon the casing wall.
Abstract: A wheeled suction nozzle is provided having, generally, a simplified three-piece construction including an upper shell, an intermediate plate and a bottom pan, with the intermediate plate sandwiched between the other two members so that its top surface and the bottom surface of the upper shell form the suction passageways for the nozzle.A rotary valve is included to activate edge or normal suction, with this valve rotating on a vertical axis and snapfit into position and thus not requiring any sort of connecting means which would positively maintain the rotary valve attached to the nozzle.
