Patent number: 5046218Abstract: A vacuum cleaner nozzle assembly which integrates various nozzle styles into one compact, lightweight unit, thus ameliorating problems associated with their storage and use. Tool selection entails orienting valve components so as to direct air flow through the chosen nozzle only, while the others remain folded out of the way. The arrangement, if used in conjunction with a telescoping wand, will obviate the need for removing/replacing nozzles or wand extensions in the great majority of cleaning situations, supersede separate tool storage, and thus ease and simplify vacuum cleaner use. If space restrictions require, as when cleaning a confined area, the integrated assembly of a preferred embodiment can be removed from the wand, and the brush or crevice tool removed from the assembly and placed on the wand, in the conventional manner.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1989Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Inventor: David D. Cerri

Patent number: 4751759Abstract: The appliance is intended to remove dust from solid objects and comprises an ionization device (7) which is operatively associated with an incorporated air nozzle (1), which has an obliquely arranged, narrow, linear blowing slot (2) which serves to produce an air jet which sweeps over the surface to be cleaned at high velocity. The ionization device (7) produces positive as well as negative ions in the laminar air jet in order to neutralize the electrostatically-charged dust particles. An air suction nozzle (3) with a corresponding suction slot (4) is arranged at a short distance from the blowing slot (2) and is operatively associated with a flat brush (5) projecting from the appliance, which serves as a baffle, determining the distance of the appliance from the surface to be cleaned, limiting the gap enclosing the laminar air jet and, to a large extent preventing sucking-in of the surrounding air. This arrangement is designed as a portable and industrial cleaning appliance.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1986Date of Patent: June 21, 1988Inventor: Dieter Zoell

Patent number: 4219902Abstract: A brush assembly is fixedly mounted to each side wall of a vacuum cleaner head closely adjacent the axis of a rotary brush. The brush bristles of each assembly are directed so as to brushingly engage the wall-floor corner. The brushes are aligned in the direction of longitudinal movement of the vacuum cleaner. A guide slot is formed in the head adjacent the end of each brush assembly, with each slot providing communication between the outside of the head and the vacuum chamber containing the rotary brush. Dirt and debris loosened by the brush assemblies is sucked through the channels formed by the slots and the floor, and then into the path of the rotary brush and into the vacuum chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1979Date of Patent: September 2, 1980Assignee: Oreck CorporationInventor: Donald R. Patent number: 4034435Abstract: A ported brush supporting vacuum cleaner accessory capable of being removably mounted on the free end of a pliable hose in which a negative pressure is maintained. The brushes of the accessory are mounted on resilient tabs that normally close a number of spaced ports formed in the accessory. The brushes serve a two-fold purpose; first, when brought into rubbing contact with a surface they tend to dislodge dirt and dust therefrom, and second, the pressure contact of a brush with the surface results in the tab with which the brush is associated being temporarily moved to a second position. A tab when in a second position allows a stream of air at high velocity to flow through the port with which it is associated from the ambient atmosphere to the interior of the accessory. Each such streams of air carries dirt or dust dislodged from the surface into the interior of the accessory.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1976Date of Patent: July 12, 1977Inventor: Jeannette Grabathy
