  • Patent number: 8544145
Abstract: A surface treating head in the form of a floor tool for a vacuum cleaner includes a main body, a suction cavity and an outlet. The suction cavity includes first and second suction channels, bounded on both sides by respective working edges. A fluid flow path extends from the first suction channel to the second suction channel and from there to the outlet. The plurality of suction channels permits effective pick-up of dirt. To enable the surface treating head to be used to treat both carpeted floor surfaces and hard floor surfaces, the surface treating head may be provided with a brush unit and a drive mechanism for moving the brush unit between a stowed position and a deployed position.

  • Patent number: 8312594
Abstract: A novel suction head for a carpet cleaning wand wherein either or both of two designs are utilized. Each design utilizes a generally fan shaped internal suction channel that fairs smoothly between an exhaust channel of substantially round cross section and lips of an intake opening having a much wider and substantially rectangular cross section. The internal suction channel utilized by one design is formed with a cross section that is non-uniform when viewed along the direction of air flow through the wand, which is a dramatic contrast to the uniform cross sections of known current designs. Another design utilizes an internal airfoil interrupting the internal suction channel along its centerline for diverting the air flow more towards the outside edges of the internal suction channel.

  • Patent number: 8302254
Abstract: The invention relates to a dirt-collecting device for a floor-cleaning machine, for picking up a liquid from a floor surface which is to be cleaned, having a carrier and at least one wiping member for wiping the floor surface, the carrier and the at least one wiping member bounding a suction channel which opens out into a suction mouth and of which the free cross-sectional area, through which a suction stream can pass, decreases, at least in one channel portion, in a direction away from the suction mouth. In order to produce such a dirt-collecting device in a more cost-effective manner, it is proposed according to the invention that the suction channel has disposed in it at least one channel-narrowing member, which is produced separately from the carrier. The invention also relates to a floor-cleaning machine having such a dirt-collecting device.
