Patent number: 10266020Abstract: A tire rim of a motor vehicle includes a substantially cylindrical body for holding a tire, and a hub connected to the body through radial members, and has an outer face facing, in use, the outside of the vehicle, and an opposite inner face. At least one elongate flexible element associated with the rim can reach a resting configuration within the rim, and a working configuration, extended with respect to the resting configuration, of such a length as to allow the tire to be surrounded, in which each flexible element is wound around the tire to form a snow chain. The rim includes at least one retaining member at a zone of its inner face, to be engaged by a portion of a flexible element in its working configuration.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2014Date of Patent: April 23, 2019Inventor: Giorgio Augusto Neyroz

Patent number: 8763660Abstract: Tire belt comprising a rubber composition based on at least one isoprene elastomer, a reinforcing filler, a crosslinking system and an antioxidant agent, characterized in that said antioxidant agent comprises a 4,4?-bis(alkylamino)triphenylamine corresponding to the formula (I): in which R1 and R2, which are identical or different, each represent a linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having from 5 to 8 carbon atoms. Such an antioxidant gives the belt of the invention a better long-term resistance to fatigue and to crack propagation.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2007Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventors: Jose Carlos Araujo Da Silva, Pierre-Antoine Niore, Arnaud Remy

Patent number: 6889734Abstract: A wheel chain has a running lattice structure which is tightened by a pressure cord (8). The pressure cord (8) is connected to a lateral lattice structure arranged on the outer side of the vehicle tires by connecting members (6). Each of the connecting members has a connecting loop (10) for a member of the lateral lattice structure, and a guiding ring (9) for the pressure cord (8). In order to preserve an excess length (7) of the pressure cord (8), the cross-section of the connecting loop (10) is sufficiently large so that the connecting loop (10) provides a pull-through conduit for the excess length (7) of the pressure cord (8).Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2002Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: RUD-Kettenfabrik Rieger & Dietz GmbH u. Co.Inventors: Werner Deger, Erhard Weidler

Publication number: 20020088519Abstract: Traction enhancing apparatus for a vehicle wheel includes a strap securable to a wheel and a sleeve disposed on the strap. The sleeve includes friction enhancing elements extending the full length of the sleeve and the strap includes cooperating locking elements at opposite ends of the strap. A plurality of such strap and sleeve elements are easily secured to a vehicle wheel under emergency conditions, such as snow, ice, or the like, to enhance the traction of the vehicle wheel.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2001Publication date: July 11, 2002Inventor: J. Kim Wilkinson

Patent number: 6142202Abstract: An anti-skid apparatus for a tire is provided. The anti-skid apparatus includes a traction member that is positionable across the tread of the tire and a fastening assembly which is connected to the first and second ends of the traction member and extended through an opening in the wheel on which the tire is mounted. The fastening assembly tightens the traction member to maintain the traction member in engagement with the tread of a tire. A modified tire rim having a passageway extending therethrough for use with the anti-skid apparatus of the present invention is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1998Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Inventor: Jerry Hicks

Patent number: 4368769Abstract: A skid-resisting chain adapted to be attached to and removed from the tires of a vehicle with a minimum of effort to provide improved traction in snow, ice, mud or other slippery road conditions. The attachment-detachment means comprises a flexible metal cable adapted to tie the tire chain around the tire and wheel and a biased cam gripping means adapted to frictionally-engage the end of the cable in a manner which provides increased locking action when a withdrawal force is applied to the cable and yet permits easy release when a tightening force or a detachment force is applied to the cable.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1980Date of Patent: January 18, 1983Inventor: Jerome L. Rookasin

Patent number: 4074741Abstract: Anti-skid tire chains for automobiles are known to be consisted of a various number of cross strands of steel or plastic link chains which have been fitted together into a harness or halter type of arrangement, and which is affixed to an automobile tire by means of some type of fastener mechanism which has been engineered (in peculiarity) to a given make of tire chain. In this invention, only one strand of steel or plastic link chain is constituted in every complete unit. Independent strips of flexible moulded plastic, having serrations molded onto one of the surfaces of each, are fitted to each end of the chain, and in their function thereof comprise a graduated fastener. A further independent piece of hard plastic, moulded in a `C`-clasp type configuration, serves to lock the fastener parts together. The invention is affixed to the tire through a wheel fello, and when installed, the whole has assumed the shape of a loop enclosing the `tubularity` of the tire.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1975Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Inventors: Clifton Ross Moore, John Greydon Moore
