Metallic External Base Ring Patents (Class 152/394)
  • Patent number: 11858300
Abstract: A wheel for a vehicle, such as a forklift (e.g., an electric forklift) or another material-handling vehicle, in which the wheel comprises a tire (e.g., a non-pneumatic tire) and may be designed to enhance its use and performance and/or use and performance of the vehicle, including, for example, to exhibit less rolling resistance, be more energy-efficient and/or allow the vehicle to travel faster and/or with improved ride comfort. For instance, elastic deformation of the wheel as it rolls may be better managed (e.g., reduced), which may improve thermal behavior of the wheel and/or may be combined with ways to better distribute or dissipate heat (e.g., by increasing thermal conductivity).

  • Patent number: 6863357
Abstract: A wheel assembly comprises a tire supported by an underlying wheel. The tire has inner and outer surfaces, first and second side surfaces, and first and second recesses. Cables are in the tire proximate the inner surface. The wheel has inner and outer flanges, and an outer surface. The outer surface of the wheel receives the inner surface of the tire. The outer surface of the outer flange has lesser and greater diameter portions extending from respective sides. The lesser diameter portion covers at least 60 percent of the width of the outer surface. The greater diameter portion, defines a side flange, integral with the outer flange. A second side flange is removably mounted to the outer flange. The side flanges comprise side-facing abutment surfaces which interface with side-facing surfaces on the tire. The difference between the lesser and greater diameters is greater than radial stretch capability of the tire.

  • Patent number: 6142203
Abstract: The present invention relates to a resilient wheel for solid pneumatic tires in which a resilient rubber or rubber-like material is bonded and cured to a wheel hub. A rigid outer support band, such as a steel band, is then bonded to the resilient material, thereby making a larger diameter wheel having the resilient material layer bonded between the inner hub and the outer support band. A replaceable tread is formed by bonding a tread compound to an inner rigid support band, such as a steel band. The replaceable tread may be fitted to the resilient wheel by a friction fit between the two steel support bands or by a bolt-on construction. When the tread has been worn down after use, the tread layer may be removed and a new one substituted therefor, thereby obviating the need to scrap the entire wheel. The resilient wheel portion may therefore be used on a repeating basis, replacing the tread layer portion as necessary. A preferred embodiment comprises a steel banded solid tire in which a 360.degree.

  • Patent number: 5542752
Abstract: A wheel tread locking circular groove invention designed primarily to bond very difficult to bond materials to a given wheel hub or wheel rim without an adhesive which could be used for commercial, industrial, automotive, and all other purposes where a revolutionary state-of-the-art wheel product is needed. The resultant benefits of the locking circular grooves are derived from specific mathematical ratios. These mathematical ratios are a product of groove design dimensions. Another part of the invention is to bring together the wheel tread locking invention with a newly developed state-of-the-art engineering thermoplastic polyurethane resin designated as Isoplast.RTM. grade 202 with specifications far superior to that of any conventional material that can be used for wheel tread material forming a new product that has been needed for a very long time. This resultant combination of the present invention with the Isoplast.RTM. grade 202 will benefit everyone in the country, as all goods, food products, etc.

  • Patent number: 5232032
Abstract: An assembly formed of a tire and removable protector, intended to be mounted and used on a rim having frustoconical seats. The tire has beads (5) the outer contour of which is formed primarily by a frustoconical zone (80) substantially parallel to the axis of rotation and by a frustoconical zone forming an angle of between 45.degree. and 90.degree. with the axis of rotation. The removable protector (2), the contours of which are adapted on the one hand to the profile (10, 11, 12) of the mounting rim (J) and, on the other hand, to the profile (80, 81, 82) of the corresponding bead (5), is reinforced by a bead ring (3) around which there is wrapped a ply (4) forming two layers (41, 42) extending up to the point (40') of said removable protector (2). While improving the initial life of the tire, the invention permits easier and less expensive recapping.

  • Patent number: 4422490
Abstract: A vehicle road wheel is disclosed having a safety groove adjacent its outboard rim edge but so as to be within a tire fitted to the wheel and within which a flexible band is fitted so that a tire fitted to the wheel has it outboard bead embraced between the flexible band and the outboard rim edge of the wheel. This enables the the configuration of the wheel rim to be simplified and hence the risk of damaging a tire when fitting it is minimized. The safety groove can be in a tire sealing member of annular form that is held in position around the wheel by inboard and outboard rim parts that are releasably secured together, this sealing member defining the outboard rim edge of the wheel. There are also disclosed, where the sealing member is present, inboard and outboard non-rigid torque transfer bands respectively fitted to the inboard and outboard rim parts and with which the sealing member is engaged.
