With Separate Annulus Guide Patents (Class 152/50)
  • Patent number: 7104297
Abstract: The present invention provides exemplary wheel assemblies for use with a wide range of wheeled vehicles and apparatus. In one embodiment, a wheel assembly (800) includes a rim (810) having edges (816, 818). The wheel assembly includes a plurality of protrusions 822 disposed in a trough portion (820) between the rim edges. A resilient member (830) is disposed over the spaced protrusions, and an actuator (850) is disposed over the resilient layer. The actuator is adapted to at least partially compress the resilient layer between the spaced protrusions when the wheel assembly is loaded with a weight. In this manner, the wheel assembly is capable of providing energy return to the wheel assembly during rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 6871162
Abstract: A simple method of handling thermomechanical coupling for temperature computation in a rolling tire. First, the sensitivity of the tire elastic response to changes in material stiffness is characterized using the “deformation index”. Then, using a commercial finite element program and an appropriate user subroutine, heat generation is expressed as a function of the local temperature using a simple algebraic expression involving the temperature dependent material properties and the deformation indices. Temperatures are computed using the finite element program with the coupling information contained in the user subroutine. The result is a non-iterative method for a fully-coupled thermomechanical analysis of a tire. The effects of compound changes on tire temperature distribution can also be estimated using the deformation index. The method applies to the energy loss and temperature calculations under both steady-state and transient conditions.

  • Patent number: 6732775
Abstract: An elastic wheel having a disk 1 equipped with a base rim 2 and a rim 3 for supporting a tire includes a pair of guides 4 fixed annularly on the inner peripheral surface of the rim 3 and a pair of wall portions 5 fixed annularly on the both side areas in the axial direction of the wheel on the outer peripheral surface of the base rim 2, where rubber elastic bodies 6 are fitted annularly between the side surfaces of the guides 4 and the side surfaces of the wall portions, respectively. The elastic bodies 6 being installed are able to absorb vibrations by their shearing deformations, so that especially the riding comfortableness performance, the vibrationproof performance, and the soundproof performance can be improved against the small input load. Regarding the soundproof performance, furthermore, it is extremely effective on a high frequency area of 100 Hz or higher.

  • Patent number: 6701985
Abstract: The present invention provides exemplary vehicle wheel assemblies for use with a wide range of wheeled vehicles and apparatus. In one embodiment, a wheel assembly (100) includes first and second rim portions (210, 212) having edges (220, 222). The wheel assembly includes a cartridge disposed in a trough portion between the rim edges. The cartridge includes a chamber portion (300) having a plurality of spaced protrusions (310), a resilient member (400) disposed over the plurality of spaced protrusions, an actuator (500) disposed over the resilient layer, and a traction layer (600) disposed over the actuator. The actuator is adapted to compress the resilient layer at least partially into the chamber portion when the wheel assembly is loaded with a weight. In this manner, the wheel assembly is capable of providing energy return to the wheel assembly during rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5560685
Abstract: The invention discloses a wheel for roller skates, comprising: a tubular central body (1, 15) suited to lodge in its interior one or two bearings (2, 3) inserted in the supporting pivot (4) of said wheel and a toroidal covering layer (5) wrapped around said central body and co-axial with it, made of material suited to allow the rolling of said wheel on the contact surface. Said wheel presents at least one annular element made of shock-absorbing material, said annular element being placed between said central body (1, 15) and said toroidal covering layer (5), such as to permit the out-of-alignment between the central body and the toroidal covering layer, whenever said wheel bumps into the irregularities of the rolling surface.
