Patent number: 8529813Abstract: The present invention provides multiple layer interlayers having a soft inner polymer layer and relatively stiff outer layers that can be laminated without unacceptable optical distortion and used in various multiple layer glass panel type applications. Multiple layer interlayers of the present invention have surface topography that is formed by controlling the melt fracture that occurs at the exposed surface of the interlayer, or individual layers of the multiple layer interlayer, during formation of the interlayer. By precisely controlling the surface topography of the interlayer, lamination of the interlayer with a rigid substrate does not lead to unacceptable optical distortion caused by the transfer of the surface topography through outer, stiffer layers into softer, internal layers of the interlayer.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2010Date of Patent: September 10, 2013Inventors: David Paul Bourcier, John Joseph D'Errico, Jean-Pierre Etienne, Gary Matis

The second adhesive surface of the tape is used to bond the assembly of the backing panel, the lamp and the indicia-bearing member to the inner surface of an automobile window or the like.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1994Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: I.D. Patent number: 5505801Abstract: A method of producing a composite laminated film-to-glass panel for the display by back lighting of graphics and/or advertising and instructional alpha-numerical information for incorporation in game machines, product dispensing apparatus, and wall displays. The composite film-to-glass panel of the invention is produced by assembling as a layered structure: a primary front glass sheet component; a first intermediate mounting sheet component of double-faced adhesive-coated clear polyester film material in interfacing relationship with the front glass sheet; a second intermediate component comprised of a sheet of positive image film bearing the graphic and/or advertising and instructional information on the front side thereof in interfacing relationship with the mounting sheet component; and a rear component comprising a film-protecting sheet of clear polyester film material bearing a clear laminating adhesive on its front side in interfacing relationship with the sheet of positive image film.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1994Date of Patent: April 9, 1996Inventor: Gary L. Patent number: 5501888Abstract: The present invention provides a divided light inserts which employ metal caming and a kit for mounting the inserts on existing windows. The preferred divided light inserts use substantially lead-free, rigid caming which incorporates a flange and steel core around the perimeter of the insert. The preferred mounting kit provides for ventilation between the insert and the primary glazing panel of a window in which the insert is mounted.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1996Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Assignee: Anderson CorporationInventors: Craig Hanson, John Gallagher, Kirk Schneider

Patent number: 5451280Abstract: A curved, laminated car glazing having a decorative enamel coating formed as a frame along the edge of a laminated glazing, on a surface adjacent to the intermediate, thermoplastic layer of one of the individual glass sheets is prepared by printing an enamel as the decorative coating on a glass sheet, which is then dried, printing an enamel containing metallic silver as a narrow strip on the decorative coating, firing or baking the coated glass sheet, superimposing the baked glass sheet with a mating glass sheet with the printed coating on the inside, and with the result that the bent sheets do not stick together because of the presence of the silver-containing strip, and completing the lamination of the curved glass sheets.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1994Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Saint-Gobain Vitrage InternationalInventor: Manfred Gillner

Patent number: 5364479Abstract: Decorated sheets of laminated safety glass, particularly for use in the field of building construction and vehicles for transportation, are manufactured using a process which makes it possible to obtain a product which can be defined as laminated safety glass. The process consists in reproducing the decoration on a support formed by paper and polyethylene layers and transferring said decoration onto the interposed plastic film, using the adhesive bond differential between decoration and polyethylene and decoration and plastic film.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1993Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Assignee: Societe Italiana Vetro-SIV-S.p.A.Inventors: Pier P. Patent number: 5348599Abstract: A method of making a glazing unit comprises sputter coating surface of a substrate ply with a first film of dielectric material and then a substantially transparent, electrically conductive coating, and then laminating the coated surface of the substrate ply to a laminating ply of polymeric material. The first film of dielectric material is sputtered onto the surface of the substrate followed by sputtering, in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, an electrically conductive film of silver metal over the first dielectric film. An adhesion film of copper or zinc is sputtered over the silver metal film in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. A film of tantalum pentoxide is then sputtered over the adhesion film. Applications include, for example, glazing units for solar load reduction and electrically heated glazing units.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1993Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventor: Kenneth E.
