  • Patent number: 6866736
Abstract: At least first and second dissimilar tire components are placed on a false drum, and are subsequently transferred, en masse, to a building drum, in the following manner. The first tire component is placed on the false drum with the false drum stationary, using a vacuum device to pick up a free end of the first tire component and place it on the false drum. The vacuum in the false drum is turned on to grasp the first tire component, and the vacuum device is turned off to release the first tire component. A free end of the second tire component, previously picked up using a pickup device, is placed on the false drum. The step of placing the free end of the second tire component onto the false drum may be performed after the drum has been rotated slightly. The false drum is rotated to measure out the first and second tire components, and they are cut to a desired length. The at least two dissimilar tire components are then transferred to the building drum.

Abstract: A bond of a rubbery component to a virgin surface of a tire's cured innerliner which virgin surface has never been contaminated by the remnants of a release agent left after buffing with a wire brush and solvent-cleaning the cured innerliner, is unexpectedly stronger than a bond of the component to the contaminated but “cleaned surface”, cleaned as indicated. In this manner around at least one of said support inserts opening degree of which can be modulated depending on requirements, by modifying the land/empty space ratio determined by the distance existing between the side portions (13a, 14a, 15a) of the strip-like sections (13, 14, 15) covering each of the axially opposite sides of the support insert itself.

  • Publication number: 20030213545
Abstract: The present invention relates to preparation an article of manufacture, such as of a tire, via application of at least one partially pre-cured component. Tires are often prepared with pre-cured, pre-shaped components such as for example, application of pre-cured tread strips to a cured carcass as in the case of re-treaded tires. Thus precured tread and cured carcass are joined together using a cushion gum followed by heating the resulting assembly at an elevated temperature to cure the cushion gum. Such pre-cured component may also be, for example, a sidewall apex. In such cases, the pre-cured component is subjected to more heat than is necessary which may be detrimental for the component. This invention is directed to the use of a partially pre-cured component to prepare a tire assembly prior to the curing of the entire components of the tire assembly.
