Abstract: Resealable multi-ply labels are made from webs along an inline press that include a base label ply and an overlaminate for capturing onserts between them. The base label plies carry an adhesive layer on the bottom surface for mounting the resealable multi-ply labels to articles. The base plies each include a hinge area, an attachment area, a tab area, and an intermediate area separating the hinge area from the attachment area. The overlaminates form permanent bonds with both the hinge areas and the tab areas of the base plies and form reusable bonds with the attachment areas of the base plies. The permanently bonded tab areas of the base plies provide access for releasing the overlaminates from the attachment areas of the base plies and exposing the onserts.

The laminate is then removed from the portion of the stock layer to which the ultraviolet varnish was applied. This portion of the label may be printed by the consumer while the remainder of the label remains protected by the laminate which was not removed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a holding or transmission frame (12, 20) for an electrostrictive actuator, in particular, a stacked piezoactuator (5). Said method consists of the following steps: a) a winding spindle (52), corresponding to the shape of the inner periphery of the frame (12, 20), is wound with several layers of a unidirectional prepreg for forming a laminate body; b) said laminate body is hardened; c) the hardened laminate body in the frame is cut by sections parallel to the direction of winding. An electrostrictive drive (100) comprises an electrostrictive actuator (5) in which the length varies during actuation, and a transmission frame (12) that surrounds the actuator, is connected to said actuator for initiating the variation in length of the actuator and for amplifying said actuator, the transmission frame (12) being made of a prepreg that is wound in the laminate body and hardened.

Abstract: A sensor utilizing a non-leachable or diffusible redox mediator is described. The sensor includes a sample chamber to hold a sample in electrolytic contact with a working electrode, and in at least some instances, the sensor also contains a non-leachable or a diffusible second electron transfer agent. The sensor and/or the methods used produce a sensor signal in response to the analyte that can be distinguished from a background signal caused by the mediator. The invention can be used to determine the concentration of a biomolecule, such as glucose or lactate, in a biological fluid, such as blood or serum, using techniques such as coulometry, amperometry, and potentiometry. An enzyme capable of catalyzing the electrooxidation or electroreduction of the biomolecule is typically provided as a second electron transfer agent.

Abstract: A method for processing a composite includes consolidating a section of a continuous length of a first feedstock together with a section of a continuous length of a second feedstock to form a consolidated section. The first feedstock is made of a first composite layer that is releasably bonded to a first release layer, and the second feedstock is made of a second composite layer that is releasably bonded to a second release layer. The first release layer is then separated from the consolidated section and from a portion of the first composite layer a distance beyond an edge of the consolidated section. The first composite layer is then cut within the distance beyond the edge to release the consolidated section from the remaining continuous length of the first feedstock.
