Perforating Lamina Patents (Class 156/252)
  • Patent number: 5411066
Abstract: A method of producing a veneer having a given thickness requires cutting of a stock material by a mechanism including a rotary lathe blade and a nose bar. The nose bar is arranged at the outer periphery of the stock material in the vicinity of the tip of the rotary lathe blade, such that the spacing between the tip of the nose bar and the tip of the rotary lathe blade in a horizontal direction is 20 to 30% smaller than the thickness of the desired veneer to be cut. The stock material is cut by rotating the stock material by a spindle which chucks the end faces of the stock material at opposite ends thereof. A backup roller rotated by the rotation of the stock material constantly biases the stock material toward the nose bar and is positioned on the outer periphery of the stock material in a position diametrically opposite to the rotary lathe blade.

  • Patent number: 5354396
Abstract: Artistic tile designs are mass produced with precut tile pieces from commercially available square tile units. An initial tile design is created with the tile pieces to serve as a pattern. Thereafter the tile designs are reproduced by placing a transparent, semi-transparent or translucent sheet-type substrate or backing over the initial design, and by securing matching tile pieces to the substrate, as viewed through the substrate. The substrate is of the type that is sufficiently rigid to substantially maintain its shape while handled. The tile design can be repeated on the reverse side of the substrate using the design on the front side as the pattern to provide a double-sided design. If an opaque substrate is to be used, the front faces of the tile pieces are temporarily secured to a readily removable substrate, and the adhesive is thereafter applied to the back of the tile pieces to be permanently mounted.

Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus and method for forming a honeycomb core. In particular, the apparatus comprises a compressible array of heater rods that are interleaved with layers of a formable material. Upon compressing the array, the formable material conforms to the shape of the heater rods. Through the application of heat and pressure, the different layers of the formable material are caused to bind to each other. The bound layers thereby form a honeycomb core, which is then removed from the forming apparatus. Also disclosed herein are methods of making honeycomb core using the apparatus, as well as methods of determining precise curing conditions for the making of honeycomb core, by sensing the temperature and pressure transmitted to the formable materials during the curing process.

Abstract: A ribbon adhering apparatus for a photographic film cassette has a turntable, which has holders fixed circumferentially at a regular pitch. Slidable supporters are mounted on the turntable in correspondence to the respective holders, at positions inward therefrom. Initially in rotation of the turntable, a cassette half of a film cassette is set on an empty holder. Ribbon web is lapped on to support surfaces of supporters arranged adjacently. The web is cut between the supporters to separate ribbons. Sucked and held on the supporter, the ribbon is then heated to activate hot-melt adhesive agent. By advancing the supporter to a holder corresponding thereto, the ribbon is pressed against the cassette half via the adhesive agent. The supporter then stops holding the ribbon. After cooling the adhesive agent, the supporter is withdrawn from the holder, from which the cassette half is removed.

Abstract: A connecting member for filter bags or the like used for collecting dust has a main body secured to the filter bag, which main body has a multi-ply structure of board or cardboard. The main body has a passageway therethrough for facilitating the passage of dust into the filter bag. A slide gate is arranged on the main body between two plies of the main body and a handle thereon projects laterally beyond the main body and is movable between a moved in position leaving the passage opening uncovered and a moved out position shutting it. The main body is folded from a single piece of material cutout along preset fold lines. The plies of the main body placed on top of each other after folding are bonded together. The slide gate is at least partly a component of the cutout and is connected with the rest of the cutout via preset tear lines so that the slide gate may be torn off to the side after folding and bonding.

  • Patent number: 5151144
Abstract: Process for the manufacture of a tube for an expansion shaft. A plurality of fiber strata, each consisting essentially of long continuous fibers, and at least one layer of honeycomb material, the fiber strata and the layer(s) of honeycomb material being in alternating sequence forming are a sandwich compound, are applied to a mandrel having moldings or projections thereon. The fiber strata are applied so that few if any fibers are severed by the moldings. The tube has apertures, which are formed by the moldings. In order that the necessary openings do not weaken the structure of the carbon fibers, they are placed around the moldings forming the apertures and afterwards the sandwich compound is saturated with epoxy. The remarkable feature of the tube is the extremely light weight and the resulting advantages especially with regard to its handling.

  • Patent number: 5123984
Abstract: In a high speed method and apparatus for forming inlet and/or outlet ports in drip irrigation hose, the surface of one margin of a continuous length of plastic film is deformed without puncturing at periodic intervals along its length corresponding to the locations of the inlet and/or outlet ports to form protrusions from the film surface. Thereafter, the protrusions are severed from the film to form the ports. The remainder of the hose is made in a conventional fashion. Preferably, the film surface is deformed by directing the film through the nip of pair of rotating wheels. On the surface of one of the wheels is a series of blunt projections sized, shaped and positioned to correspond to the ports being formed. The protrusions are severed by the edge of a knife across which the film is directed.
