Abstract: This invention provides processes for making three-dimensional signage. In one embodiment, a process is provided for making raised graphic signage. In this embodiment, a profile material is adhered to a substrate materials with an adhesive which: (a) bonds firmly enough to hold the profile and substrate materials together during the process, (b) permits the profile and substrate material to be separated after the process is completed, and (c) cures to form a more permanent bond after the profile and substrate materials have been separated. Then, an outline of a desired graphic is cut completely through the profile material. That portion of the profile material which does not constitute the outlined graphic is then separated form the substrate material, before the adhesive forms a permanent bond. In another embodiment, a process is provided for making recessed graphic signage.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a molding material includes the steps of winding a thin metal strip on the peripheral surface of a rotary shaft a plurality of turns with a resin material being interposed between the resulting layers of metal, cutting an end surface of the metal strip and the resin material which have been wound by a cutting blade while rotating said rotary shaft to obtain a mixture of metal fibers and resin fibers, and heating the fiber mixture to a temperature at which the resin fibers can be softened. In this way, a molding material in which the metal fibers are substantially uniformly dispersed in the resin material in a closely contacted state can be obtained easily. Furthermore, the contents of the metal fibers by volume in the molding material can be arbitrarily adjusted by changing the rate at which the metal strip and the resin material are wound around the rotary shaft.

  • Patent number: 5226991
Abstract: A method and an apparatus is used for forming airlaid articles such as diapers, sanitary napkins and the like. The apparatus includes an anvil drum with die cavities formed therein. The die cavities have foraminous bottom walls for drawing a stream of air-entrained fibrous fluff therethrough. A first material layer is laid on the anvil drum for covering some of the die cavities and is then deformed into the cavities. After a belt with opening corresponding to the die cavities has been laid on the first layer for protecting the sealing areas from fluff, an air stream with fibrous fluff is drawn through the first layer and through the foraminous bottom walls, thus pulling the first layer into the die cavities and causing the fluff to be deposited in the cavities. A second material layer is placed on the deposited fluff and glued or crimped to the first layer. A die-cutting roller then cuts the airlaid articles into the desired shape before the articles are removed from the anvil drum.

Abstract: An engineering method of providing a lining onto the internal face of conduits for gas, city water, etc. that are buried underground. This lining work shall entirely be done from the portions exposed above ground. The distance of the supply pipe to the service tee is measured. The lining tube is set to a length that is slightly longer than this distance. The lining tube is turned inside out inside the supply pipe. As a result, a slightly longer length of non-reverse portion is left inside the supply pipe by the service tee. This non-reverse portion is helpful when cutting the rewinding tape that is tied to the lining tube after the insertion of a cutter. Next the heating tube shall be reversed similarly, and a hot water hose is inserted for circulating hot water in the heating tube. The aforesaid lining tube coated with the thermosetting adhesive is bonded onto the internal face of supply pipe. Next the heating tube is pulled out and the rewinding tape of the lining tube is cut and removed.

Abstract: Known methods and devices for overlap-welding of printing by means of ultrasonics have been developed further to enable problem-free use, particularly with wire printers also having thin wires, and to enable welding of multi-color ribbons. The invention also permits more durable components. In the method according to the invention, the printing ribbon to be joined is retained in a non-overlapping fashion on movable plates, preferably by means of a vacuum, and is severed by a cutter, preferably by means of an ultrasonic sonotrode and cutting anvil, and is then moved so that the ribbon ends are in overlapping position, and then welded, preferably with a structured part of a sonotrode on a wielding anvil which is likewise structured. A device according to the invention has two plates with ribbon-retaining means, a cutter, and a joiner, such as a welder, for joining the two ribbons ends. The plates are movable to at least two positions suitable respectively for the cutting and joining functions of the machine.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for pressure and heat sticking a thin film to a base plate. The thin film and a base plate on a film like carrier are introduced into a vacuum chamber having upper and lower contact members for compressing the thin film, base member and carrier into a stratified body. The thin film and base plate are held separate from one another in the chamber. The lower contact member moves upward to contact the carrier and base plate and to compress the stratified body between it and the upper contact member. The upper contact member is convex in shape and made of an elastic material so that the contact pressure on the thin film and base plate starts near the center and spreads toward the periphery resulting in improved sticking of thin film to the base plate with no air bubbles and no wrinkling. The pressure is applied in a vacuum or reduced atmospheric pressure and heat is simultaneously applied. A further compression in the air at atmospheric pressure is carried out by a heat and pressure roller.

Abstract: In a process for mass producing optical storage sheets, an elongate film of a liquid crystalline material is fed lengthwise along a path through an aligning gate. The aligning gate applies to successive areas of the film a field which aligns the molecules. The field may be an electric field and/or a shear field. An aligning layer, such as a surfactant layer may also be used for alignment of the film areas. The aligned film may then be cut into pieces for use as microfiches or microfilms. The film material is preferably a liquid crystal polymer material.

Each layer is a preformed sheet and is bonded to the partially-built object by applying an adhesive at locations within the confines of the contour of the area of contact between the layer to be bonded and the object, such that the portions of the sheet outside of the contour of the contact area are easily separated.

Abstract: A method of assembling a rigid element in a module, the rigid element having a membrane for separation, filtration, or catalytic transformation purposes. The outside shape of the element is substantially cylindrical or prismatic. The element is made from a support of sintered substance, the ends thereof are sealed, and an active layer is deposited thereon. The module is intended to contain at least one rigid element within a shell which is substantially cylindrical about an axis parallel to said rigid element and closed by two end plates having openings to which the ends of the elements are fixed, together with intervening seals. Each of the ends is provided with an extra thickness which is bonded to the support. The extra thickness mass is machined in such a manner as to obtain a shoulder whose outside surface has a predetermined circularly-symmetrical shape about an axis close to that of the element.

Abstract: A multi-entry transaction pad features a plurality of sheets bearing tear-off slips thereon, the sheets being arranged in a stack over a transfer paper in contact with a master record sheet. Peripheral record entry areas on each slip allows sequential entry of transaction-related data thereinto, the entires being recorded immediately thereunder on the master record sheet. The sheets and their slips are offset with respect to each other, and unique transactions-identifying numbers are printed thereon. The slips are staggered in such a way as to be congruent with correspondingly numbered areas on the master record sheet. Offsetting and staggering is arranged so that the record entry area of the next sequential slip is always exposed and in immediate contact with the transfer paper. A relatively large number of tear-off slips are accommodated on a relatively small number of sheets, leading to reduced manufacturing costs and simplification of the manufacturing process. A related manufacturing method is described.
