  • Patent number: 7022418
Abstract: Manufacture of stacked microelectronic devices is facilitated by producing subassemblies wherein adhesive pads are applied to the back surfaces of a plurality of microelectronic components in a batch fashion. In one embodiment, an adhesive payer is applied on a rear surface of a wafer. A plurality of spaced-apart adhesive pads are defined within the adhesive layer. Each adhesive pad may cover less than the entire back surface area of the component to which it is attached. A mounting member (e.g., dicing tape) may be attached to the adhesive layer and, in some embodiments, the adhesive layer may be treated so that the mounting member is less adherent to the adhesive pads than to other parts of the adhesive layer, easing removal of the adhesive pads with the microelectronic components.

Abstract: A label includes a base label having upper and lower opposed surfaces and first and second opposed ends. A base adhesive coats the lower surface of the base label. A top panel overlies the upper surface of the base label and is joined to the base label adjacent the first end. The top panel has an upper surface. A tab having upper and lower opposed surfaces overlies the upper surface of the base label. An adhesive patch is interposed between the base label and the tab adjacent the second end. The adhesive patch secures the lower surface of the tab to the upper surface of the base label. A laminate cover overlies the top panel and the tab. A laminate adhesive secures the laminate cover to the upper surface of the top panel and releasably joins the laminate cover to the upper surface of the tab.

Abstract: A see-through, one-way panel having a white opaque substrate with a dark pigmented adhesive on the rear side. The pigmented adhesive is covered with a release liner. The substrate, adhesive and liner are perforated and thereafter an imperforate barrier is laminated over the release liner. The front surface may be top coated to accept a dye based ink. The front surface is printed with an image by thermal or piezo ink jet printing technology. The resulting panel may then be adhesively applied to a surface.

Abstract: The present invention is a method for reducing the deformation along a cut contour edge (26) of a sheet (2) caused by the cutting process whereby sheet material (4) protrudes above the top surface of the sheet being cut. One group of embodiments (22, 50, 60) apply pressure to the deformation to flatten the protrusion (4). Another group of embodiments (70, 80) cut away ant material protruding above the top surface of the sheet. The deformation reduction mechanisms of both groups may be mechanically linked to the contour-cutting element or they may pass over the line of the contour cut independently.

Abstract: Polymeric multilayer optical films, and laminate bodies that include such films, are cut or subdivided into one or more discrete pieces by removably applying a first and second liner to opposed major surfaces of the multilayer optical film. Laser radiation is then directed at the multilayer optical film through the first liner in such a way as to produce cut lines that define a plurality of pieces of the first liner and of the multilayer optical film. Thereafter, the plurality of pieces of the first liner are removed from the plurality of pieces of the multilayer optical film while the pieces of multilayer optical film are supported by the second liner. Application of the first liner to the multilayer optical film can be accomplished with electrostatics.

Abstract: A method is described for making a composite, such as a piezoelectric composite, having a predetermined volume ratio. Initially, a pair of base slabs are diced to form slot having uniform pitch spacing such that a material portion of one diced base slab may be received within the slots of another diced base slab. The diced base slabs are interdigitated and joined to form a first piezoelectric composite that can subsequently be diced to form slots having a uniform pitch spacing that are spaced from the first slots. Two diced first piezoelectric composites are interdigitated and joined to form a second piezoelectric composite of reduced volume ratio and finer pitch.
