Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for bonding a first substrate and a second substrate. During operation, the system starts by treating a first surface of the first substrate and a second surface of the second substrate with a hydrophilic treatment. The system then transfers a first oligomer layer onto the treated first surface and a second oligomer layer onto the treated second surface. Next, the system treats the first oligomer layer and the second oligomer layer for hydrophilic activation. The system subsequently brings the first oligomer layer into contact with the second oligomer layer, thereby allowing the two oligomer layers to adhere and form a single bonding layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. In particular, each of the first oligomer layer and the second oligomer layer is a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer.

Abstract: A surface treatment agent for hydraulic transfer to perform hydraulic transfer decoration with high adhesion onto an olefin-type substrate with poor adhesion. They are provided by a surface treatment agent for hydraulic transfer to a polyolefin-type substrate to be used in a hydraulic transfer method for forming a decorative layer, by coating an activator to a dried print pattern on a water-soluble film to recover adhesion of said print pattern, and then by hydraulic transferring said print pattern onto the surface of a surface treatment layer of the polyolefin-type substrate treated with the surface treatment agent, characterized in that said surface treatment agent for hydraulic transfer is consisted of a resin composition including a modified polyolefin (a), a polyfunctional isocyanate (b) and a solvent (c), and a blending ratio of (b)/(a) is 0.005 to 0.5, in weight ratio.

Abstract: The present invention is a method for manufacturing inflatable articles, or bladders for inflatable articles, that is time-efficient, simple, inexpensive and permits the uninterrupted manufacture of numerous and even customized article or bladder configurations and sizes, without expensive configuration-specific, metal tooling. The method includes the steps of applying a barrier material to a side of a first film, providing a second film with the first film so that the barrier material is disposed between the first and second films, adhering the first film to the second film so that the films are sealed together in areas except where the barrier material has been applied to form at least one inflatable compartment and sealed peripheral edge, and cutting along the sealed peripheral edge to form an inflatable article or bladder for use in an article of manufacture. The barrier material may be a paint, ink, paper or surface treatment that effectively prevents the first film from adhering to the second.

Abstract: A process for laminating a polar substrate with a film cast from a sulfonated block copolymer having at least one end block A and at least one interior block B wherein each A block contains essentially no sulfonic acid or sulfonate ester functional groups and each B block is a polymer block containing from about 10 to about 100 mol percent sulfonic acid or sulfonate ester functional groups based on the number of monomer units. The film is exposed to water and dried onto a polar or active metal substrate. The laminates do not delaminate in the presence of water and may be used for a variety of applications including energy exchange applications.

Abstract: Chemically-welded optical devices and associated methods for chemically welding optical devices are disclosed herein. Such optical devices may be used in display systems, and may include subcomponents comprising one or more optical films employed for polarization manipulation, as well as a substrate for protecting the optical film(s). An optical film may be chemically welded directly to the substrate using a solvent, and any additional optical films may be chemically welded to a prior optical film previously welded to the substrate. The chemical welding process of the present disclosure may include applying the solvent on the optical film in order to partially dissolve the surface of the optical film prior to adhesion to the substrate. Macromolecules on the dissolved surface of the optical film may be in a loosened state and may be realigned when the solvent evaporates.
