Heating Lamina Prior To Assembly Or Adhesive Applying Patents (Class 156/322)
  • Patent number: 7879174
Abstract: A process for producing lightweight thermoplastic composite products in a continuous manner is disclosed. An oven is provided for heating a dry unconsolidated fabric sheet of commingled fibers of thermoplastic and re-enforcing fibers or carbon fibers to a temperature sufficient to ensure melting and flow of the resin in the voids of the commingled fibers. The unconsolidated composite sheet is conveyed through the oven and then through a first pair of heated rollers at an outlet of the oven whereby to maintain the fabric sheet heated to prevent abrupt cooling at the surfaces while compressing it under pressure. A further pair of rollers at a further reduced temperature is provided whereby the heated sheet is gradually lowered in temperature and the pressure is maintained thereon during consolidation of the commingled fibers to ensure complete flow of the resin in the voids between the reinforcing fibers.

Abstract: A linerless pressure-sensitive label uses a heat-activated, non-tacky dead coat to cover a pressure sensitive substratum. Upon heat activation, the dead coat melts and admixes with an underlying pressure-sensitive adhesive substratum thereby resulting in an exposed pressure-sensitive adhesive. The label can then be applied to packaging or an end product by pressing the adhesive side of the label to the packaging or end product similar to a conventional pressure-sensitive label, however, no silicone-coated release liner is required. The elimination of the silicone-coated release liner results in lower material costs, lower shipping costs and less waste.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing a copper-clad laminate, the method comprising the step of placing at least one copper foil onto a resin layer containing a liquid crystalline polymer so that the resin layer adheres to a surface of the copper foil, wherein the surface of the copper foil has 0.4 or more of a ratio of nickel concentration to copper concentration and has substantially no silicon detected when measured with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The copper-clad laminate can sufficiently maintain excellent adhesion between the copper foil and the resin layer even under high temperature and humidity atmosphere.

Abstract: In one embodiment according to the invention, there is provided a filter device for liquid filtration, the filter device being in fluid communication with a plurality of liquid pathways, at least one pathway of the plurality of liquid pathways having a smallest equivalent fluid flow diameter of the plurality of liquid pathways. The device comprises a filter membrane (108) and a filter core (109) comprising at least one cross hole (110) in fluid communication with the filter membrane, each cross hole having an equivalent fluid flow, diameter. The sum of the equivalent fluid flow diameters of the at least one cross holes does not exceed the smallest equivalent fluid flow diameter of the plurality of liquid pathways.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for thermally printing a pre-selected dye image (45) onto a three dimensional object (16). The method involves placing an image carrier sheet (24) containing a pre-selected dye image (45) over the object (16). A flexible membrane (26) is lowered over the object (16) and the image carrier sheet (24). A vacuum is established under the membrane (26) causing the image carrier sheet (24) to conform to the shape of the object (16). The membrane (26) or image carrier sheet (24) carry flexible heating elements (36), which are heated, to thermally transfer the dye image (45) onto the object (16). The flexible heating elements (36) can be made by etching an electrical circuit in a metal foil (34) which is bonded to a film substrate (30).

Abstract: A tubing assembly including elongated first and second tubes for carrying a fluid flow. Each tube is a composite tube having an inner layer, a middle layer surrounding the inner layer, and an outer layer surrounding the middle layer. At the end of each tube, the tubes are flared outward from an axis of the tubes in complimentary shapes with the middle layer being directed away from the fluid flow and following a contour of the inner layer. The tubing assembly may include a gasket provided intermediate the inner layers. A clamp compresses the ends together and the gasket (if provided) to create a joint between the inner layers of the ends and maintain a seal between the inner layers of the flared ends.

Abstract: A dunnage platform is in the general shape of a rectangular slab with legs extending form one side. The dunnage platform is made from an expanded polystyrene core. A chemical combination process is used to chemically combine portion of the core proximal to its surface with high impact polystyrene. In a first of two parts of the combination process, the core is placed in a forming mold with one of its two sides and two thirds of its thickness extending therefrom. A heated sheet of high impact polystyrene is brought into contact with the portion of the core extending from the mold. In a similar manner, the other of the two sides of the core is made to extend from the forming mold for contact with a heated sheet of high impact polystyrene.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing. A fiber layer and a porous bonding layer are formed to form a unidirectional lay-up of fibers. The lay-up of fibers is heated under pressure to form a unidirectional composite tape of desired thickness to substantially maintain the fibers in a desired configuration. The unidirectional composite tape is slit to a desired width, and the slit unidirectional composite tape is loaded into a multiaxial fabric machine. A first layer is built from the composite tape in the multiaxial machine, and a second layer is built from the composite tape on the first layer at a predetermined angle from the first layer in the multiaxial machine. The first and second layers are consolidated to form a composite fabric in a continuous process.

Abstract: The invention teaches a new way to make mesh bags using adhesive labels and continuous mesh tubing. Using adhesive labels on continuous mesh tubing is made possible by guiding the mesh tubing both on the outside of the tubing and the inside of the tubing so that an adhesive label does not stick to the mesh surface on the other side of the mesh tubing. As a result the invention also teaches a new type of mesh bag made with this process and a new machine used for making mesh bags.
