Of Temperature And/or Motion Of Heat Exchange Means Patents (Class 156/359)
  • Patent number: 6517649
Abstract: A vacuum wrapping process and apparatus for adhering a flexible material to a rigid substrate. The temperature of the flexible material is monitored, processed, and controlled by a control unit. The material is supported over the substrate in a mold. Spring-loaded rotatable bars are supported within the mold and compress the marginal portion of the material against the mold. A vacuum draws the material toward the substrate, and the bars control the release of the material at a desired rate. The vacuum drawn on the material is monitored, processed and controlled by the control unit. The amount of vacuum applied to the material is inversely related to the temperature of the material. The control unit alters parameters of the vacuum molding process, such as the material temperature and the vacuum to reduce tearing, stretching, and/or wrinkling of the material.

Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for controlling a heat bonding process in a heat bonding apparatus. The temperature is sensed at an interface between the pressing means and the article to be pressed and a signal processing means detects a rapid change in temperature at the interface to provide a start-of-cycle signal indicating initiation of the heat bonding cycle. The signal processing means then detects the attainment of pre-set temperature reached at the interface to provide an end-of-cycle signal signifying the completion of the heat bonding cycle. The heat bonding apparatus may comprise a heat seal press, a heat fusion machine, apparatus for transfer printing and fusion, apparatus for hot melt printing, thermal fixing apparatus, apparatus for the lamination of, for example, two substrates via hot melt adhesives in which the substrates are held in position by means of clamps or frames, and moulds for the curing of materials, such as, for example, rubber.

  • Patent number: 6047758
Abstract: In a method for repeatedly using an image holding member such as a sheet of paper, toner for an electronic photograph is constructed such that a maximum value of viscoelasticity of the toner shown by tan .delta. is equal to or smaller than 3 in the range of a heating temperature when the toner is heated and fixed to the image holding member. Such toner has sufficient elastic or cohesive force. Accordingly, when the toner is heated and fixed to the paper sheet, no excessive adhesive force is caused to such an extent that paper fibers of the paper sheet eat into the toner attached to the paper sheet. Accordingly, after an aqueous solution including a surfactant is supplied to the paper sheet by a liquid supplying unit, the toner is softened by heat from heating rollers so that the toner is attached to a surface of an offset belt.

  • Patent number: 6045640
Abstract: The invention proposes an apparatus an a method of welding together articles made of a termoplastic material by means of a butt welding method. The articles are held in coaxial relationship by means of a pair of clamping mechanisms. A heating element can be brought between the two articles to heat up their respective facing front faces, whereafter the heating element is removed and the heated front faces brought into mutual contact. For determining the strength of the welding zone, the ambient temperature is considered. For this purpose, a thermal sensor is provided that is arranged at the welding apparatus. The thermal sensor is thermally insulated against the welding apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6030474
Abstract: In a method for coating the recording surface of an information card by selectively using one of protective films of various types, the selected protective film loaded in a coating device is thermally transferred to the card at the optimal thermal-transfer temperature and optimal feeding speed determined according to the film type of the loaded protective film which is automatically identified. The film type of the protective film is recognized by detecting at least one discrimination mark on a film ribbon for the protective film by use of one or more mark sensors. The discrimination mark also serves as positioning means for the protective film in coating. By thermally transferring the protective film to the card at the optimal thermal-transfer temperature and optimal feeding speed, a high-quality information card coated with flat layers including printing ink layers and protective films and having excellent peel strength can be produced.

  • Patent number: 6021832
Abstract: Polyolefin pipes are welded end-to-end by a self-propelled, self-contained machine which performs all steps necessary to the process without need for any other machines or equipment. Hydraulically driven parallel tracks are independently controlled for maximum maneuverability. An hydraulically driven, computer controlled, reversible jaw assembly reciprocates the new pipe section relative to the exiting pipe line. A facer for trimming and squaring the pipe ends to be joined and a heater for melting the pipe ends for fusing are umbilically connected to the machine for on-board or remote operation. The computer, also on an umbilical, enables the operator to operate the machine in a normal mode in which the operator manually controls the facing, soaking and fusing processes or an automatic mode in which the fusing process is automatically controlled by the computer.

  • Patent number: 5948190
Abstract: The invention provides a method of welding together articles made of a thermoplastic plastic material by means of a butt welding process, whereby the two articles to be welded together are held in place in coaxial relationship by means of clamping devices. Then, the two articles are heated up by means of a heating device that can be placed between the two articles to create a molten up welding zone in the region of each of the free ends of the two articles. As soon as the welding zone has reached the proper temperature, the two articles to be welded together are pressed together to create a bulge. Finally, the temperature of that bulge is continuously monitored and the temperature of the material in the interior of the afore mentioned welding zone is calculated according to the formula ##EQU1## until such a temperature is reached at which the articles can be removed from the clamping devices.
