  • Patent number: 6656301
Abstract: A green tire holding device (10) including a frame (12), a rod (14) extending horizontally from the frame (12), and a bladder (16) mounted on the rod (14). The bladder (16) is inflatable to an inflated shape so that it contacts a substantial portion of an inner circumference of a green tire (T) to support the green tire during a pre-curing wait cycle. The green tire holding device (10) can comprise a plurality of rods (14), a plurality of bladders (16), and/or a plurality of bladders (16) on each rod (14). The bladders (16) can be inflated at substantially the same time and/or certain bladders (16) can be deflated independently of other bladders (16). In a tire manufacturing method, the loaded green tire storage device (10) is transported to a doping/curing area with the bladders (16) deflated. At the doping/curing area, the tires (T) are removed from the rods (14), doped, and re-hung on the rods (14).

Abstract: Method and apparatus for manufacturing pneumatic tires, wherein a green case comprised of at least one inner liner rubber member and a carcass ply member is formed on a first drum and transferred to a position around a second drum. The green case is the fixedly secured to the second drum by axially moving a pair of centering elements in opposite directions into pressure contact with opposite inner sides at the bead portions of the green case, and urging the inner peripheries of the bead portions by a pair of lock elements. The second drum is then caused to expand and undergo a width reduction, thereby expanding the green case into a toroidal shape. Sidewall rubber members, which have been previously wound on a pair of side bladders on the outer side of the lock elements, are expanded and reversed by inflating the side bladders and joined to the toroidal green case to thereby form a green tire.

Abstract: Bead wires 4 are set at both ends of a carcass ply 2, to form bead portions 5 and 5. Then, a carcass body 6a incorporated with a toroidal BT band 9 around the outer periphery portion is mounted on a forming drum 13 around which side rubbers 20 are mounted through bladders 16 and 17 at the positions corresponding to the bead portions 5 and 5. Thus, by expansion of the bladders 16 and 17, the side rubbers 20 are press-contacted with both the sides of the carcass body 6a.

Abstract: According to the present invention, a bead assembly consisting of a combination of a ring shaped bead core, a bead filler and a flipper is manufactured by continuous automated steps, whereby productivity is greatly improved. The present invention is characterized by the steps of providing bead locking drums on the free end portions of a plurality of rotary arms arranged radially around the center of rotation thereof, and turning and stopping these rotary arms sequentially so as to set a bead core on a bead locking drum stopped in a first stopping position A, wind a bead filler around the bead core set on the bead locking drum stopped in a second stopping position B to form a bead assembly, and then take out the bead assembly formed on the bead locking drum stopped in a final stopping position D. A third stopping position C is set between the second and final stopping positions, and a flipper is pasted on the bead assembly stopped in this stopping position C.

Abstract: A system for manufacturing tires includes a flangeless green tire assembly drum mounted to a head stock by a cantilevered shaft and coaxially aligned with a belt-tread stock building drum. A transfer mechanism is positioned intermediate the two drums and transfers a built belt-tread stock assembly from the drum to the green tire assembly drum. An unloading mechanism for the built green tires includes two extensible arms mounted to the head stock and flanking the green tire drum, having gripping members at the ends of the arms which are movable towards and away from the green tires, to pick up the completed green tires and move them from the green tire assembly drum. A carcass loading apparatus is incorporated into the unloading apparatus and is fixedly mounted longitudinally to, but rotatable relative to, the extensible arm. The carcass loading apparatus includes a rotatable arm mounted to the extensible arm having a cradle at the end thereof for carrying the carcass.

Abstract: Handling means for the transportation of flexible sheet material comprises two work stations and a carrier (15) movable between the two work stations. The carrier is provided with means (12, 13) securely to support flexible sheet material (9) during its transport by the carrier between two work stations. The carrier preferably is flexible in a first direction whereby it may be deformed to follow a curved path (26) around a mandrel (25) at one work station. The carrier is thereby suited to receiving reinforced sheet material from a first mandrel (14) and applying it transposed, say through 90 degrees, around a second mandrel (25).

Abstract: In the apparatus of this invention a plurality of cylindrical matrices 2 are used to form tubular sleeves of elastomeric material to be later cured and cut into short segments to be used as belts, usually toothed belts. A coiling station 8 places a reinforcing fiber helically around the entire length of the sleeve. The matrix having the coils is then turned to a vertical position by a transfer member 28 and transferred, by means of an adjacent rotating platform 6 to a winding station 9 for application of a sheet of elastomeric material over the thread. The matrix having the completed but uncured sleeve is then placed back on the rotating platform. The coiling station and the winding station each have a tilting member 34 or 43 with two pairs of arms 39 or 52 so that while a completed matrix is swung out of the working position, a fresh matrix is swung into position.

  • Patent number: 5186778
Abstract: A method for removing a cylindrical member from a radially expansible and contractible band-forming drum and transferring the cylindrical member to a subsequent station. The cylindrical member includes a cylindrical laminate structure prepared by winding tire constituent elements in the form of an inner liner and a carcass ply around the band forming drum, and a pair of bead rings axially spaced from each other and fixed and held at predetermined positions on the outer circumference of the laminate structure. The bead rings are grasped while maintaining a predetermined distance therebetween, without displacing the bead rings before the band-forming drum is contracted to decrease its diameter. At least the axial end of the cylindrical member close to the subsequent station is held in a slightly radially expanded state, and the band-forming drum is then contracted to decrease its diameter to allow removal of the cylindrical member from the drum in its axial direction.
