Patent number: 5007977Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a strip to the planar contour-prepared edge of a lens. The beginning of an endless strip is connected to the edge of a lens. A transverse perforation is introduced into the strip at a distance from the strip beginning that corresponds to the circumference of the lens. The lens is then rotated, and the strip is restrained, at a location thereof behind the perforation when viewed in the direction of movement of the strip, in such a way that the strip tears at the perforation to form a new strip beginning for the next lens. This new strip beginning is pressed against, and connected to, the edge of the next lens. A register is provided for determining the circumference of a lens.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: Wernicke & Co. GmbHInventor: Lutz Gottschald

Patent number: 4976677Abstract: Process for the production of filters whose active filtering part is made up of a folded filter material web, preferably made from paper, which folded web is delimited in the process by side edges at which the folds terminate, and end edges at which a first or last fold is located, so that in this way filter units (49) are formed. The filter units (49) are produced in an automatized process in which the filter material web is creased and pushed together to form the folds. The spacings between the folds are maintained constant by means of a screw element with threads pushing down between the folds and forming spacing elements between these. The screw element is rotataed during forward movement of the folded web. Glue-coated strips are pressed onto the said side edges of the web, so that the ends of the folds are covered over by the strips.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1989Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Assignee: Flodins Filter ABInventor: Per-Erik Siversson

Patent number: 4904332Abstract: Apparatus for producing a continuous sequence of disposable headdresses in which the edge of the cap fabric has been folded inward around a peripherally extending elastic cord to provide a smooth edge which contacts the wearer, and provides superior adhesion between the elastic cord and the cap fabric by utilizing an elastic cord and fabric which are coated with or made of thermoplastically compatible materials. The elastic cord and fabric are assembled by passing the fabric and the cord through a guide system which turns the fabric side edges down from a horizontal plane to a vertical plane while an edge guide lays the elastic cord under the fabric, and then turns the fabric under the cord to sandwich in the folded edge. Warm air preheaters heat the elastic cord and the fabric before completing the fabric fold around the cord. The folded edges with the cord inside pass between dual heat wheels which physically press the fabric to the cord and also seal the fabric edge to the inside of the crown.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1987Date of Patent: February 27, 1990Assignee: Cellucap Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Thomas J. Patent number: 4594162Abstract: A filter for separating constituent components of fluids includes a plural-layer sheet-like member which is multiply pleated to provide layers of the same or different porosity or to provide structural support layers for pleating a soft or membrane-like filter layer. The multiple layers may be pre-joined or delivered from individual locations to a pneumatic conveyor passage of predetermined cross-section through which the adjacent layers are conveyed by a conveyor gas. The layers are crimped to form pleats by withdrawing the material at a lower linear speed than that at which it is supplied to the passage. Pleating is facilitated by venting the conveyor gas at a passage section of enlarged cross-section. The pleating material is subjected to a hot gas, such as steam, and then cooled by a cooling gas to effect bonding of the layers in the pleated state.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1984Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: American Filtrona CorporationInventor: Richard M. Patent number: 4227952Abstract: Method and apparatus for making diapers with elastic bands in the leg-contacting zone of the diaper involves forming folds, tucks or festoons in the diaper backing sheet or facing sheet and applying elastic ribbon treated with adhesive over the web and across the gaps of the folds so that the ribbon does not adhere to the web portion in the folds. Hence the elastic ribbon is only adhered to the portions of the web between the folds. The elastic ribbons are cut in the gaps of the folds, with the material in the folds later forming the nonelasticized waistband portion of the diapers. At the ribbon-web assembly station, the facing or backing sheet is supported by spaced plates separated by gaps. Before the ribbon is applied, the folds are formed by tucker bars which successively interfit in the gaps between the support plates and push the web into the gaps.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1979Date of Patent: October 14, 1980Assignee: Sabee Products, Inc.Inventor: Reinhardt N. Patent number: 4081305Abstract: A multi-layer web or strip is produced from a single strip, by folding this single strip on itself, forming alternate loops in zig-zag form, the second portion of a loop partially covering the first portion of the same loop and being covered in the same proportion by the first portion of the following contiguous loop. The present invention is applicable to the continuous manufacture of multi-layer sheets for cleaning, hygiene or mechanical purposes.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1976Date of Patent: March 28, 1978Assignee: Compagnie des Etablissements de la RisleInventor: Claude Guy Patin

Patent number: 4069084Abstract: Pharmaceutical dosage forms comprising an edible web having deposited thereon or at least partially thereon a particulate medicament, the webs being thereafter fabricated and finished to pharmaceutically elegant solid dosage forms having no medicament exposed on an exterior surface. The dosage forms have a consistency of release of medicament which can be controlled to exacting specifications. The disclosed solid dosage forms are prepared by high speed automated equipment and the process by which they are made is characterized by non-destructive quality control analysis and performance evaluation both conducted on-line and integrated into the manufacturing operation. Included in the scope of the disclosed invention are certain apparatus and methods of manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1977Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: Hoffmann-La Roche Inc.Inventors: Arthur Roman Mlodozeniec, Lawrence Samuel White

Patent number: 3982978Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for making pile fabrics wherein a sheet of longitudinally striated thermoplastic film formed into loops is fusion bonded to a thermoplastic backing sheet by sonic energy to bond the film to the backing sheet at the lines of contact without loss of orientation in either the striated film or the backing sheet and then subsequently the bonded striated film is fibrillated to separate the loops into individual filaments thereby forming a pile fabric.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1975Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Assignee: Hercules IncorporatedInventor: Charles W. Patent number: H556Abstract: A continuous method of manufacturing a drainage system and apparatus therefore comprises a continuous assembly line which forms a plastic core material followed by continuously forming an envelope surrounding the formed plastic core and then sealing the stuffed envelope. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an extruder is used to transform granulated plastic material into sheet form. This plastic sheet is then fed directly into a plastic forming machine. The plastic forming machine will form a plurality of hills and valleys in the plastic sheet thereby defining a plastic core. Thereafter, continuous sheets of permeable fabric material are attached to the upper and lower surfaces of the formed core while the edges of the permeable fabric are secured to one another either by adhesive, sewing or any other suitable bonding method. Next, the draining system is either cut into desired lengths or rolled for shipping purposes.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1985Date of Patent: December 6, 1988Inventor: Paul L. Tarko
