With Separate (nonpress) Heating Means For Work Patents (Class 156/499)
  • Patent number: 5490626
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the overlapping welding of foil edges. The device has heating surfaces for heating the foil edges. In order to achieve uniform heating of the foil edges, longitudinal ribs are provided over the entire width of the heating surface. Hereby it was found to be advantageous if the heating surfaces are constructed rib-free, i.e. smooth, in the starting area provided for the leading in of the foil edges. In this starting area, the foil edges are plastified at the leading-in surfaces first to such an extent that the longitudinal ribs are able to burrow themselves into these surfaces from the start.

  • Patent number: 5464341
Abstract: The mold is secured on the bed portion, and the frame is moved up and down by the jack devices so that the rubber sheet is moved down to the mold and moved up from the mold in a reciprocating motion. While setting the work W, the rubber sheet is stretched by the sheet stretching devices for absorbing the deflection of the rubber sheet, thereby the possibility of the dislocation of the work W on the mold due to the contact with the rubber sheet is reduced, and the insertion of the work between the rubber sheet and the mold becomes easy. Both edge portions of the rubber sheet extending beyond the edge of the mold are clipped by the convex portion formed on the bed portion and the concave portion formed on the frame, thereby the wrinkling of the rubber sheet hardly occurs.

Abstract: The process for the production of a thermoelectrically weldable zone in thermoplastic materials is significantly improved by the true-to-size, air-free embedding of the heating conductor at a clearly defined depth below the joining surface. For this purpose in a first process step a sublevel wire bed bottom is cut in the material, in which is cut a substantially inverted T-shaped incision, running in two planes and at the desired depth, measured from the material surface and, following the surface profile, the cut is passed along the heating conductor insertion line. Using the same tool the cover strips formed are raised and stretched along the path of cut, so that an open channel is formed with the sublevel wire bed bottom. Preferably in the same operation the wire bed is also cut true-to-size with a cutting tool and corresponding to the heating conductor. In a later process step the heating conductor is placed through the still open channel, the cover strips are pressed and then melted.

To improve this further, the two traveling rollers which run in advance and are arranged so as to be laterally offset are supported at a swivel plate so that the traveling track can be adjusted. Further, the shaft of the two traveling rollers is not directly driven, but rather a slip clutch in the form of two rubber blocks is arranged between it and a separate drive shaft. Abstract: A portable hot sir sheet welder used for making reservoir liners and covers. The welder is sued to fuse together overlapped edges of lengthy sheets of synthetic rubber material or the like. The welder has a front carriage and a rear carriage both of which have a weight box for removably receiving cast ingot weights. The front carriage has a pair of laterally spaced main drive compression wheels for pressing the overlapped sheets together after they have had their surfaces heated to a sufficiently high temperature by a hot air shoe pounded on the front carriage. A pair of laterally spaced secondary compression wheels are supported from the front end of the rear carriage. An eccentric mechanism attached to the rear carriage provides structure for pivoting the main drive compression wheels upwardly from their pressure producing position.

  • Patent number: 5225025
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automated resistance welding of materials is provided. The material may be thermoplastic material. The material has a layer of a second material adjacent thereto. The second material is a dissimilar material which may be applied as a film or a coating on the first material, or the second material may be a separate layer placed adjacent the first material. A heating element is placed in the interface between overlapping portions of the two pieces of material to be welded together. The layers are directly adjacent to the heating element. The layers can be consolidated onto the heating element if desired. The heating element can be composed of carbon fibers in a polymer matrix. The heating element is supplied with current to generate resistive heating. The heating causes melting of the layers adjacent to and contacting the material. Pressure is applied to the area being welded to fuse the materials together.

  • Patent number: 5207856
Abstract: A filter support tube manufacturing apparatus and method employing operative steps of drawing wire from a reel, and moving the wire, first, through a heater for heating the wire, second, through a fluidized bed for coating the wire with a corrosion resistant material which also serves as a bonding agent and, third, through a second heater. Then, the heated and coated wire is wound onto a rotating mandrel which holds straight plastic reinforcing strips about which the wire is wound. Once winding of the wire is completed and the wire is embedded in the plastic reinforcing strips, the wound wire is cut manually and removed from the mandrel. A new end of the wire extending from the reel is inserted in the mandrel and a new set of plastic strips are installed on the mandrel. Finally, the steps are repeated to make additional filter support tubes.

Abstract: A heat sealed butt joint for plastic parts such as a battery formed by at least a two step force application. The adjacent portions of the butt joint of the battery cover and case are preheated to a near liquid state causing rollover on the sides of the joint. The first step force application is of a lighter amount and is held for a predetermined time which causes the heated rollover on the sides of the battery to solidify. The second step force is of a heavier amount and is held for a predetermined time which causes the molten polymers of the heated portions of the battery cover and case to mix and bond together while the solidified rollover from the first step acts as a dam to prevent further rollover during the second step. The formed sealed battery has improved bursting strength and the process can be used for joining various other butting plastic parts to improve the tensile strength of the bond between the parts.

  • Patent number: 5188691
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for producing fully air-cushioning dunnage from two sources of flexible thermoplastic film. This improved apparatus and method provides a fully air-filled dunnage by maintaining a forming roller (16) at a cold temperature. The outer surface (33) has a thermo-resistive layer (32) completely convering its periphery absent a plurality of cavities (30) formed therein. A first film (12) is heated then thermoformed into said cavities (30). The thermoformed portions of the film contact the cold cavities in the forming roller to cool both the film and the air in the cavities to a cold temperature. The heat welding surface of first film (12) is kept at an elevated temperature by the thermo-resisitive layer. A second film (20) is heated and welded to said first film by and with an adjustable heated pressure roller (24). The heat traveling through the second film and the first film is delayed for a predetermined amount of time by the thermo-resistive layer.
