  • Patent number: 7669630
Abstract: Hole punch apparatus which automatically places a reinforcement ring precisely around each punched hole concurrently with the creation of each hole and using the same motion that punches the holes. In a preferred embodiment, the punch shaft has a ring compression disk affixed around it at a location above the punch face. The compression disk has a ring cushion and a stack of reinforcement rings extending along the punch shaft toward the punch face, but spaced therefrom to permit the punch face to puncture a sheet before the lowermost reinforcement ring is then compressed against the sheet in precise axial alignment with the punched hole. The rings each have sufficient adhesive to adhere to the sheet, one and only one ring at each hole, while disengaging from the remaining rings in the stack.

  • Patent number: 7631679
Abstract: A hole puncher and reinforcer for punching holes in sheets of material and for concurrently applying reinforcement to the sheets of material about the holes punched employs a removable cartridge containing a punch rod upon which a supply of reinforcement rings is mounted. The cartridge fits into a tubular socket located on the stanchion of the puncher and reinforcer frame. The reinforcing rings are mounted on the lower end of a cylindrical punch rod and a pressure plate attached to the punch rod forcefully presses each reinforcing ring in turn against a sheet of material as the cutting edge of the punch rod concurrently punches a hole in the sheet of material. When the supply of reinforcing rings is depleted, the entire cartridge is removed by rotating the punch lever arm away from alignment with the punch rod. A hook on the underside of the punch lever arm engages a lug on the cartridge, and lifts the cartridge out of the socket stanchion to facilitate removal and replacement of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4565596
Abstract: Upwardly conically tapered containers having glue on their peripheries are conveyed horizontally in succession through a labeling station while being rotated on their vertical axes. A stack of curved labels having their longer edges arranged lowermost at the labeling station receive constant forward pressure applied to the rear of the stack while the forward end of the stack is being engaged and held by a system of top and bottom adjustable knives which establish a twisted configuration to the labels in the stack. The arrangement allows each leading label in the stack to be taken therefrom by a rotating tapered container and to be applied to the tapered periphery of the container with the leading and trailing ends of the label substantially perfectly aligned and registered. A range of container sizes having varying degrees of taper can be accommodated by the labeling apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4543143
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the covering of playing balls, in particular tennis balls, utilize two essentially dumbbell-shaped cover parts and apply the parts interlockingly at an angle of 90.degree., successively to the adhesive coated ball core by rolling over the laid out, dumbbell-shaped cover parts. The cover parts are stacked to form a magazine and are provided with a layer of an adhesive so that only their peripheral surfaces are coated. The adhesive coated ball cores are rolled successively, initially by means of a contact pressure device in the longitudinal direction over a first cover part magazine and subsequently by means of a second contact pressure device and second cover part magazine extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of the first cover part magazine. The edge of the second cover part engages the bight of the cover part already in position at a decorative seam gap.

  • Patent number: 4540460
Abstract: This relates to the mounting of a label magazine in a manner wherein labels carried by such label magazine may be rotated or slewed about a line extending axially of the label magazine through the center of a label. The slew control device is used to effect such rotation and thus orientation of a label so as properly to position the label for transfer. In the preferred usage of the slew control device, each label is transferred into a blow mold half and proper orientation of a label with respect to a blow mold half cavity is obtained utilizing the slew control device. This abstract forms no part of the specification of this application and is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.

  • Patent number: 4531995
Abstract: A labeling machine has a rotationally driven wheel on which there are can supporting disks supported for rotation on respective shafts. Each shaft has a gear composed of a circular member having angularly spaced apart rollers that engage in the teeth of stationary cam rings. Consecutive sections of the teeth have increasingly large pitches in the direction of wheel rotation so that by engagement of the rollers in the teeth the rotational velocity of the cans supported on the shafts increases. The label holder is mounted on an arm and is concentric with the axis of the wheel. By unclamping the arm and rotating it to proximity with one of the toothed cam sections, the can will be rotating with a particular peripheral velocity that results in a can of the proper diameter to roll onto a label without any skidding or slipping action such that the label will always be picked up at its leading edge by means of a glue strip which has been previously applied to the can.

  • Patent number: 4502910
Abstract: A system for the dispensing of literature to objects, such as containers carried by a conveyor, includes a tape for the application of adhesive to literature, and a device for the separation of the literature from the tape to permit the securing of the literature, adhesively, to the containers. A drive mechanism is provided for advancing the tape through successive increments of distance, each incremental distance being equal to the size of one piece of literature. A hopper dispenses the literature to the tape, one piece at a time. Application of the pieces of literature to the objects is accomplished by a roller or brush. The literature separation device includes a bar having an edge about which the tape is bent to free the literature from the tape as the tape advances around the edge. The adhesive is retained by the literature during the separation from the tape so as to permit the adhesive attachment of the pieces of literature to the containers.

Abstract: A method whereby chip type circuit elements are mounted at predetermined locations on a printed circuit board by a suction means and apparatus for performing the method are disclosed. The suction means picks up each circuit element from a respective stack supported in a vertical magazine and transfers and positions them above the predetermined locations on the printed circuit board which can have a predetermined pattern of laminar conductors on the upper surface thereof. The circuit elements are then released by termination of the applied suction and adhered to the board by a thermoplastic adhesive setting operation.
