Patent number: 4838982Abstract: An applicator for applying patches to a traveling web, such as in a bag forming machine, includes a vacuum cylinder with an outer perforated sleeve, an inner slotted sleeve and a stationary core with shaped pressure chambers for applying patches cut from a roll to the traveling web. Cutting blades are included in the perforate outer sleeve to sever patch material from a roll as the vacuum cylinder rotates. The outer perforate sleeve is replaceable with sleeves of different outside diameters to accommodate different patch locations.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1987Date of Patent: June 13, 1989Assignee: H.G. Weber & Co., Inc.Inventors: Richard Klaeser, Glenroy G. Blatz

Patent number: 4832783Abstract: Application of heat transfer labels to articles. A roller having a smooth elastomeric coating turns against a moving web. The web carries heated labels which are transferred to the roller. The roller, with a transferred label thereon, turns against a moving article, and transfers the label to same. The elastomeric coating conforms to the article surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Jack A. Nechay, Fritz E. Bauer, Bernard R. Danti, Mark Lukkarinen

Patent number: 4795525Abstract: The invention relates to a labeling machine for receptacles comprising a labeling unit which is disposed on a compound slide comprising an upper carriage part and a lower carriage part. The upper carriage part is connected with parallel rods which extend through slide bushings on the lower carriage part. The upper carriage part is linked to a pivotable lever being limited in its pivoting path by an adjustable stop.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1987Date of Patent: January 3, 1989Assignee: Krones AG Hermann Kronseder MashinenfabrikInventor: Hermann Kronseder

Patent number: 4758303Abstract: Apparatus for applying labels at selected locations thereon to such diverse artifacts as audio and video cassettes, compact and floppy discs, and envelopes and to a wide variety of other artifacts. The labels are peeled from a continuous backing supplied in roll or fanfold form by pulling the backing around the sharp edge of a peeler which is automatically elevated at an appropriate point in the operating cycle of the apparatus to facilitate the loading and unloading of the artifacts being labeled. A roller cooperates with the peeler in stripping the labels from the backing; and that roller, a second roller, or a brush is used to press the label onto the artifact being labeled. The artifact is supported by an interchangeable insert from a rectilinearly displaceable carriage.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1986Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Investment Technology, Inc.Inventor: Gordon L. Shastko

Patent number: 4690723Abstract: There is disclosed a hand-held labeler which uses labels releasably adhered to a carrier web. The labeler has a body with a pair of identical body sections. The body mounts first, second and third feed rolls. The first and third feed rolls project beyond the body and cooperate respectively with the second feed roll. The body has a delaminator and a guideway for the carrier web. The carrier web can be threaded through the guideway and about the delaminator in either direction. In either event, the first, second and third feed rolls cooperate with the carrier web to advance it and effect label delamination. Depending on the direction of threading, either the first or the third feed roll is used to advance the carrier web by rolling that feed roll along the surface to be labeled. A label roll is held captive in a holder having two identical body sections. In an alternative embodiment, a label strip winding feature enables a strip of labels to be wound into a roll for subsequent use in the labeler.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1986Date of Patent: September 1, 1987Assignee: Monarch Marking Systems, Inc.Inventor: Paul H. Hamisch, Jr.

Patent number: 4618392Abstract: This invention is constructed such that a label adhering means for holding and releasing a label is arranged at the other end of an arm with its one end being rotatably held in such a manner as its direction is not varied and that a label adhering may be performed under a stable stepped operative relation between a label issuing position of a label printer and a label adhering position in the adhered object.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1983Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Assignee: Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Mitsuo Uchimura, Satoru Uematsu

Patent number: 4486258Abstract: A labeling device is described by means of which adhesive labels can be printed, dispensed, and applied on an article. During each operating cycle an adhesive label is printed in the device and transported into a dispensing position below an applicator roll which is mounted for rotation on an elastically deformable axle. In order to render the applicator roll yieldable to a degree desirable to make it conform to the surface to be provided with an adhesive label, the applicator roll is supported on the axle in a central region of its longitudinal extension, while on either side of said central region there follow axle bore regions extending up to the end faces of the applicator roll in which the latter surrounds the axle with a clearance.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1983Date of Patent: December 4, 1984Assignee: Esselte Pendaflex CorporationInventors: Kurt Schrotz, Ulf Koch

Patent number: 4267006Abstract: A hand held labeler has a movable print head with selectable printing means for successively printing character lines on a series of pressure sensitive labels carried by a web from which the printed labels are successively delaminated. The labeler includes a label applicator formed by a plurality of wheels mounted for rotation on a support shaft and having label engaging peripheral surfaces. The label applicating wheels are adapted to be assembled on the shaft in different arrangements with each other and with spacer members for selectively locating the label engaging peripheral surfaces according to the location of the character lines printed on the labels to avoid engaging the lines before applicating and before the printing ink sets.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1979Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Assignee: Monarch Marking Systems, Inc.Inventors: Donald L.
