Spring Patents (Class 16/197)
  • Patent number: 4540070
Abstract: Molded resin vibration dampener is mounted on coiled tension window balance springs arranged within spring covers. A resin wall of the vibration dampener, shaped for fitting around the tension spring, has a slot oriented longitudinally of the spring, and the wall is flexible enough to allow the slot to be spread open so that the body can be pressed onto a mid-region of the spring. Resilient fins extend obliquely outward from the body far enough to engage an interior surface of the spring cover and thereby hold the body and the spring spaced away from the spring cover to prevent rattling of the spring within the cover.

  • Patent number: 4493128
Abstract: A positioner for a movable window sash embodies a guide bracket carried by the sash with one side of the guide bracket spaced from and facing an adjacent side of a window frame and extending in a plane which is inclined relative to a plane extending in the direction of movement of the sash with the opposite side of the guide bracket being parallel to said one side thereof. A wedge-like member has a first surface in sliding engagement with said one side of the guide bracket. A second surface of the wedge-like member extends parallel to and faces the adjacent side of a window frame and is movable into and out of engagement with the window frame in response to sliding movement of the wedge-like member in opposite directions. An actuator mounted for sliding movement along said opposite side of the guide bracket is operatively connected to the wedge-like member to move it in opposite directions. A resilient member urges the wedge-like member into engagement with the adjacent side of the window frame.

  • Patent number: 4457497
Abstract: A balancer is installed between a fixed body and a lid attached to the fixed body pivotably through a horizontal revolution axis. This balancer is a spring balancer for a pivotable cover lid having a compression coil sring which acts in compression or extension and a rod which transfers into a metallic cylinder according to the revolution of the cover lid. Further, this balancer has the overall characteristics of the compression coil spring and the sliding friction characteristics of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4423536
Abstract: A pair of oppositely wound torsion springs and a pair of oppositely wound spiral ribbon actuators therefor are provided in a unitary construction as a window sash balance. There are torques developed between each of the spiral ribbon actuators and its respective spring. The two torques are in opposite directions and cancel each other. This eliminates torque which would otherwise, when applied to the window sash, increase the friction between the sash and the window jam and make difficult the operation of tilt type and removable sashes.

  • Patent number: 4190930
Abstract: A rattle free window having a sash balance that is provided with a sash hook that is connected to a slide by slot and pin means so arranged that the weight of the sash thereon cam; the slide laterally against the window jamb. The sash balance may also include a novel clip which both fixes one end of the balance spring to its housing and also attaches the housing to the window jamb. The window may also include a ramp clip which automatically catches the slide when the sash is raised so that further raising of the sash can lift the sash off of the novel sash hook and slide structure.

  • Patent number: 4134234
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved weather strip and balance assembly for nonremovable windows in which the weather strip is made of a compressable, high impact material with ridges thereon to mount the sash. The ridges also mount and enclose the balance springs and pulley blocks with the sash cord coupled thereto for counter-balancing the weight of the sash. The sash cord is directed out from behind the weather strip through an opening therein to connect to the sash through an anchor. The length of the sash cord at the connection of the sash is adjustable to adjust the tension of the balance system applied to the sash. The assembly is readily assembled in said jambs of a window frame by securing the same thereto, such as by screws. The assembly is manufactured, shipped and stored without tension thereon to eliminate warpage and displacement of parts.

  • Patent number: 4128120
Abstract: A tambour or roll-top door and housing assembly comprises a tambour door formed of a plurality of longitudinal segments engaged along their adjacent sides by parallel hinge elements, and a housing having a pair of spaced tracks defining a curved path, the door being positioned with its side edges engaging the two tracks respectively and the segments being relatively pivotable when the door slides around the curve between open and closed positions. The assembly further includes a gear having a circular pitch distance between teeth corresponding to the pitch between the door's hinged segments, the gear being rotatable on a shaft with at least one tooth always engaging one door segment, and a Negator.sub.tm spring having one end secured to the bottom of the door and the remaining spiral portion freely rotatable on the gear shaft.

  • Patent number: 4089085
Abstract: An improved window sash balance and components thereof. The balance includes a spring fixed with respect to the frame and a pair of pulley blocks, each containing one or more pulleys. One block is fixed with respect to the frame and the other is disposed on the end of the spring. A cord is secured to one pulley block and trained over the pulleys. The other end of the cord terminates in a hook adapted to be received in an opening in the window jamb channel. The pulley block unit includes a pulley-receiving frame, one, two or three pulleys received therein, and at least one axle for rotatably supporting the pulleys within the frame. The block has one or two pulley-receiving openings therein, and suitable openings for reception and positioning of the axle. The block includes first and second pairs of assembly reference surfaces forming a part of the block and spaced radially from the axle opening.

  • Patent number: 3992751
Abstract: A counterbalance for a window sash which comprises a bracket for securement to the window frame and which bracket contains spaced-apart slide plates with at least a pair of vertically spaced-apart transverse elements extending therebetween; there being a self-coiling spring suspended from each transverse member by means of the free end of such coil being lead over said transverse member. The free ends of said coil springs are connected to each other and then secured to a movable window sash for effectively counterbalancing same during movement between open and closed condition. Said transverse elements permit of at least two-point contact with said spring free ends whereby rocking of the spring coils is inhibited during sash counterbalancing operation.
