Abstract: The invention relates to motor vehicle door hinges with a braking and holding function, consisting of a first hinge half (1) which can be fixed to a door assembly part, door or door post, a second hinge half (2) which can be fixed to the other door assembly part and a hinge pin (3) which consists of a solid material and which connects the two hinge halves (1,2) in such a way that they pivot. The hinge pin (3) is connected to the gudgeon (5) of one hinge half (2) in such a way that it is rotationally fixed and is mounted in the gudgeon (4) of the other hinge half (1) with a running fit. The curvature (7) of the cross-section of said hinge pin also deviates from that of a perfect circle at least over a section (6) of the longitudinal part of the hinge pin which is associated with the particular gudgeon (4), this corresponding with a complementary configuration of the gudgeon bore of the gudgeon of the hinge half in which the hinge pin is mounted with its running fit.

  • Patent number: 5311644
Abstract: A door hinge having a particularly reliable and solid stop and holding device. The movable part (13) of the hinge lies along the hinge pin (1) between the fixed part (14) and a housing (17) which contains the holding mechanism and is integral with the fixed part (14). In the housing, a pivotable lever (19) is rotationally fastened to the movable part (13) and supports a roller (26) against which one or more notches (42, 45) are pushed by a spring-loaded device (31, 40). The notches define the open positions of the door (11). The housing (17) is sealed and fits onto the fixed part and the hinge pin. The hinge can be used particularly in motor vehicle doors.

Abstract: An easel hinge includes first and second hinge plates, each including a substantially flat main portion, a curled or rolled barrel portion and a pair of rosette type fastening elements. The barrel portions of the hinge plates cooperate to hingeably connect the main portions for movement of the hinge between a closed position wherein the main portions are in closely adjacent, substantially parallel relation, and an open position wherein the main portions are in angular relation. The hinge further includes a pair of daps on the main portion of at least one of the hinge plates for maintaining the main portions in closely spaced relation when the hinge is in the closed position thereof so that the hinge can be more effectively plated.

  • Patent number: 4679285
Abstract: A lubricated hinge comprises a pair of hinge plates and a lubricant filled hinge pin fitting through barrel sections of the hinge plates so as to pivotally connect same. The hinge pin comprises a hollow cylindrical body hvaing at one end a radially expansible portion terminating with a stop shoulder and at another end a preformed head and lubricant entrance. The pin body between its ends has lubricant delivery holes for delivering lubricant to between the pin body and the barrel sections of two hinge plates. The pin body is insertable into the barrel sections with the preformed head abutting one side of the hinge and the stop shoulder aligned with an opposite side of the hinge. A shank of a mandrel having an extruding head is insertable through the pin body and is adapted to then be pulled so as to radially expand the expansion portion of the pin body with the extruding head to abut the other side of the hinge and until the extruding head is stopped by the stop shoulder in the pin body.

  • Patent number: 4575914
Abstract: The hinge-assembly to which the invention relates has a sleeve (3) located about the central section of a hinge-pin (2), and two thrust-rings (7) associated as one with the pin itself and abutting the ends (33) of the sleeve, the rings themselves housing respective seals (10). These seals (10), together with the rings (7) prevent any outflow of lubricant from the interspace between the breasted surfaces of pin (2) and sleeve (3). The assembly-procedure when uniting said hinge-assembly to the track-links involves preparation and prior lubrication of the hinge itself, followed by a pause of sufficient duration in which to check for any leaks, after which--and only after which--the links are fitted up to the pre-assembled hinge.
