Patent number: 11131359Abstract: A torque adjustment function-provided rotary damper capable of easily adjusting a torque without needing to use a tool, even in a case where a space cannot be secured on an end portion side of a casing. An adjustment lever is an operation member having an engagement portion and a knob portion. The engagement portion links with an adjuster by engaging with an adjustment end portion such that a cutout fits to a fitting portion. The knob portion is formed integrally with the engagement portion by protruding radially from an outer periphery side of a the casing. The knob portion extends to a guide portion along an axial direction of the casing in its outer periphery. The guide portion has a semi-ring shape which is partially cut out. The guide portion is rotatably disposed along an outer periphery of a shaft side cap that closes an end portion of the casing.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2018Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: TOK, INC.Inventor: Wataru Honda

Patent number: 9217485Abstract: A hydraulic damper device includes a cylinder unit including a cylinder body having an inner surface and a plug, and a piston unit including a piston, a piston rod and a valve member. The piston defines an annular groove. The valve member is disposed movably in the annular groove. The piston cooperates with the inner surface to define a valve opening and a valve seat. The valve seat has a truncated conical surface. The valve member is movable between a closing position, in which the valve member covers sealingly the valve opening and abuts against the truncated conical surface, and an opening position, in which the valve member is spaced apart from the truncated conical surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2013Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Inventor: Chung-Hsing Wu

Publication number: 20080178422Abstract: A device for controlling a speed of a door includes a detecting unit that detects a position of the door, and a control unit that controls the speed of the door in such a manner that an acceleration of the door becomes substantially zero at a point that is calculated based on the position. Thus, a target maximum speed of the door is adjusted depending on the remaining moving distance.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2008Publication date: July 31, 2008Inventors: Takuya Imai, Tsunenori Senbongi

Patent number: 6678918Abstract: A sliding resistance member (3) is interposed between a glove box (B) and a rod type air damper (21). It is assumed that when a glove box lid (L) corresponding to a open-close member starts opening, the rod type air damper (21) rotates while running idle in conjunction therewith, in a relation in which the rotary type oil damper (3) is positively interposed between the glove box (B) corresponding to the mounting shaft and the rod type air damper (21). However, since a braking force of the sliding resistance member (3) is applied to the side of the open-close member in a rotating section of the rod type air damper (21), an sufficient damper effect can be obtained even when the open-close member starts opening.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2002Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Piolax Inc.Inventor: Isao Nakabayashi

Patent number: 6434788Abstract: The invention describes a door closer with an energy storage that includes a resisting spring (3), with a closer shaft (1) driven by the resisting spring (3) and with an hydraulic fluid damped damping device (12, 13), whereby the energy storage and the damping device (12, 13) act upon a common closer shaft (1), whereby the resisting spring (3) and the closer shaft (1) are not in contact with the fluid of the damping device (12, 13). In this way a particularly slim housing is possible.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1999Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Inventor: Ernst Schulte

Patent number: 6317922Abstract: A door closer includes a cylinder and a piston sliding along the cylinder with a piston rod extending from the cylinder, with the closer mounting at one end to the door and at a second end to the door frame. The door closer has a speed adjustment know extending from a first end for varying the closure rate. Adjustable mounting brackets provide for flexibility in mounting configurations and closing force. A door lock maintains the piston in an extended position and keeps the door open. The lock includes a washer sliding on the piston rod in a first position and locking the rod at a second position. The washer has a tab that engages an angled surface in the first position to prevent locking engagement with the piston rod. A rotatable end cap rotates the washer between the locked position and the unlocked position.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1999Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: Truth Hardware CorporationInventor: Michael W. Patent number: 5170530Abstract: A door closer of the kind which acts between a door hinge stile and a hinge jamb has a body for mounting usually in the stile, and from the body a spring-biased tension member extends for anchoring to the jamb. A hydraulic cylinder piston damper is interposed between the tension member and its biasing spring, the damper incorporating no unidirectional valve means and instead its piston being undersized relative to the cylinder by an amount predetermined by the viscosity of hydraulic fluid in the damper so as to allow fluid to flow restrictedly around the piston when the tension member is moved in door-closing and door-opening directions.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1990Date of Patent: December 15, 1992Assignee: Reilor LimitedInventors: John Kopec, Christopher M. Patent number: 5012551Abstract: A furniture hinge has a hinge arm connectible to the body of a piece of furniture and a lever connectible to a closure for the furniture. The closure is movable between a closed position and an open position. A damping device is disposed between the hinge arm and the lever and includes a housing having a bellows-like first part and a second part secured to the hinge arm. A piston rides in the housing and divides it into first and second chambers. The piston is provided with flow channels which allow hydraulic fluid in the housing to flow between the first and second chambers. The piston is mounted on a rod which extends through, and is coupled to, the first housing part and is articulately connected to the lever. A sealing member likewise mounted on the rod is arranged to seal the flow channels upon movement of the closure to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1989Date of Patent: May 7, 1991Assignee: Paul Hettich Gmbh & Co.Inventors: Ulrich Beneke, Jurgen Gross, Wilfried Oepping, Manfred Schnelle, Gunter Sundermeier

Patent number: 4935985Abstract: A return apparatus includes a first hollow cylindrical member and a second hollow cylindrical member sleeved in the first cylindrical member to create a telescoping movement in a sealed relationship. The first cylindrical member has a first and a second closed end to define a first sealed chamber. The second cylindrical member has a first closed end protruding beyond the first closed end of the first cylindrical member and a second closed end having a flange radially extended therefrom to seal and engage movably with the inner face of the first cylindrical member in the first chamber. A floating piston is mounted in the axial bore of the second cylindrical member defining a second chamber and a third chamber. The third chamber is provided with a compressible gas. The first and second chambers are filled with fluid under the pressure of the compressible gas. In this way, the second cylindrical member can be retracted to an original position after it is pulled outward by an axially external force.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1989Date of Patent: June 26, 1990Inventor: John Wang

Patent number: 4411341Abstract: Relative motion between movable parts is damped by way of a hydraulic damper having radial vanes in a hydraulic damping fluid filled working chamber and dividing the chamber into subchambers which respectively increase and decrease in volume in response to torsional movements of the vanes in the working chamber during relative rotation of subassemblies of the damper. Damping is effected by controlled displacement of the hydraulic damping fluid between the subchambers through restricted orifices across an edge of the vanes during torsional movements of the vanes responsive to relative motion of the parts to be damped. Damping may be provided in either direction of rotation. Another level or no damping may be provided in the opposite direction of rotation. Substantially equal damping may be effected in both directions of rotation. A range of adjustments of the restricted orifices is provided for. The damper may be equipped with an overload pressure relief device.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1981Date of Patent: October 25, 1983Assignee: Houdaille Industries, Inc.Inventor: John C. Schultz
