    Abstract: A torque adjustment function-provided rotary damper capable of easily adjusting a torque without needing to use a tool, even in a case where a space cannot be secured on an end portion side of a casing. An adjustment lever is an operation member having an engagement portion and a knob portion. The engagement portion links with an adjuster by engaging with an adjustment end portion such that a cutout fits to a fitting portion. The knob portion is formed integrally with the engagement portion by protruding radially from an outer periphery side of a the casing. The knob portion extends to a guide portion along an axial direction of the casing in its outer periphery. The guide portion has a semi-ring shape which is partially cut out. The guide portion is rotatably disposed along an outer periphery of a shaft side cap that closes an end portion of the casing.

A door lock maintains the piston in an extended position and keeps the door open. The lock includes a washer sliding on the piston rod in a first position and locking the rod at a second position. The washer has a tab that engages an angled surface in the first position to prevent locking engagement with the piston rod. A rotatable end cap rotates the washer between the locked position and the unlocked position.

A piston rides in the housing and divides it into first and second chambers. The piston is provided with flow channels which allow hydraulic fluid in the housing to flow between the first and second chambers. The piston is mounted on a rod which extends through, and is coupled to, the first housing part and is articulately connected to the lever. A sealing member likewise mounted on the rod is arranged to seal the flow channels upon movement of the closure to its closed position.

A floating piston is mounted in the axial bore of the second cylindrical member defining a second chamber and a third chamber. The third chamber is provided with a compressible gas. The first and second chambers are filled with fluid under the pressure of the compressible gas. In this way, the second cylindrical member can be retracted to an original position after it is pulled outward by an axially external force.

    Abstract: Relative motion between movable parts is damped by way of a hydraulic damper having radial vanes in a hydraulic damping fluid filled working chamber and dividing the chamber into subchambers which respectively increase and decrease in volume in response to torsional movements of the vanes in the working chamber during relative rotation of subassemblies of the damper. Damping is effected by controlled displacement of the hydraulic damping fluid between the subchambers through restricted orifices across an edge of the vanes during torsional movements of the vanes responsive to relative motion of the parts to be damped. Damping may be provided in either direction of rotation. Another level or no damping may be provided in the opposite direction of rotation. Substantially equal damping may be effected in both directions of rotation. A range of adjustments of the restricted orifices is provided for. The damper may be equipped with an overload pressure relief device.
