  • Patent number: 5862569
Abstract: A plate that is attached to a shaft to remove a door closer from the door completely. A door holder is used to set the plate in an "open" position, out of the way of the door. Once the plate is in the open position, the door is free to open and close without any force on it at all. If there is an emergency, the door holder releases the plate. The door closer then moves the plate against the door and closes the door. Once the door is closed, the plate can be reset by opening the door until the door holder is again engaged. In this way, people can operate the door without exertion while they are protected from emergencies.

  • Patent number: 4785493
Abstract: A door check wherein a housing is affixed to the pivotable panel and a guide rail is affixed to the frame of a door. The housing contains a shaft which is rigidly connected with one end of an arm the other end of which is slidably guided by the rail. The shaft carries a disc cam having two asymmetric sections one of which is tracked by a spring-biased follower surrounding an antifriction bearing and tending to return the panel to its closed position and the other of which is tracked by a roller on the piston of a damper which yieldably opposes the movement of the panel back to its closed position. The configuration of the two cam sections is selected with a view to allow for a reduction of the resistance which the follower offers to opening of the door shortly after the panel leaves its closed position as well as to ensure that the damper can operate independently of the follower and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4777698
Abstract: A sleeve for assisting a cylindrical door closure for maintaining a door opened. A door closure made of a cylindrical barrel with a rod slidably mounted in the member is known to have a hold open washer for locking the rod relative to the barrel. The locking takes place when the washer is tilted on the rod and the edge around the hole pries on the rod. When the hole in the washer does not perform its locking function, the new sleeve is mounted over the end of the barrel. The sleeve has an end wall which abuts against the end of the barrel and is provided with a central aperture for allowing the sliding of the rod. The end wall is made with a greater thickness around the periphery to increase the angle between the washer and the rod so that the prying effect takes place between the washer and the rod.

  • Patent number: 4773125
Abstract: A link is pivotally connected at one end thereof to one end of a case or main body of a door closer so that the link is turnable between a first position where it is received in the case and a second position where it is put outside the case. A roller is attached to the link, and a cam member is installed within the case. Also installed within the case is an urging spring which causes the cam surface of the cam member to abut against the roller, whereby the link is urged in the direction to be received in the case. The case has no oil enclosed therein. Thus, the construction of the case is simple and inexpensive. When the door is closed, the link is received within the case to improve the external appearance.

  • Patent number: 4759099
Abstract: This invention relates to a device ensuring automatic closure of pivoting doors and for holding them in open position. The device includes a fixed box mounted on the door (or frame) and supporting a pivoting arm subjected to the action of a return element. A fixed slide rail is mounted on the frame and a connecting element is positioned between the pivoting arm and the slide rail. The connection between the pivoting arm and the slide rail is obtained by way of a sliding rod, retractable inside the arm. The rod is adapted to be blocked automatically when it projects from the arm by a determined length corresponding to a given degree of opening of the door.

  • Patent number: 4757642
Abstract: For self-closing a sliding door, e.g. of a showcase, combinations of belts and sprockets, cables and pulleys, rods and springs and the like, which have proved difficult to construct, service and replace are replaced by one or more constant force springs associated with a spring-retention cavity or other spring retainer. This permits the doors to be easily removed for servicing and for improved access to the interior of the showcase. Upon door removal, no self-closing apparatus still links the door to the case. The parts are simple and easy to replace, few moving parts are involved and the system is applicable both for new construction and for retrofitting to existing cases.

Abstract: A control mechanism for a door of a motor vehicle is suggested that is coupled at a door post on the side of the body so that it can be swung, is actuated via an inside and outside handle and comprises a piston-cylinder unit arranged between the door post and the vehicle door. The unit has a piston provided with passage openings for a pressure medium, the piston interacting with an interior valve that separates two working chamber of the cylinders from one another. The mechanism has an exterior blocking valve controlling the medium flow, this blocking valve being arranged in a control circuit connecting the two working chambers of the cylinder, acting against the flow direction. The blocking valve is controlled by a door handle in such a way that the door can be blocked in at least one intermediate position.

  • Patent number: 4686740
Abstract: A stopper which has a rod projected from the lower end opening in a hollow body to be slidable in upward and downward directions and mounted to be urged by the lifting force of a spring, a pedal attached to the rod, and an actuator formed symmetrically with recesses and rotatably supported to one side of the rod. The body is formed with a guide slot 8 adapted so that the actuator is disposed in a predetermined direction slidably in upward and downward directions therein, a rotary controller for rotating the actuator in a predetermined angle, and a connector for engaging the actuator at a predetermined angle, the rod formed to be able to be axially contracted and elongated and returned. Thus, the stopper can lock and release the lock merely by depressing the pedal, thereby improving the operability and permitting locking in a predetermined stroke.

  • Patent number: 4670939
Abstract: A hydro-magnetic door hold open device. A piston on a piston rod is slideably mounted in a cylinder that is mounted eccentrically inside a housing. The piston rod extends out of the housing and connects to a hingedly mounted door so that opening or closing of the door effects reciprocation of the piston within the cylinder. Both the housing and the cylinder within it are filled with hydraulic fluid. A ball valve positioned forwardly of the piston is confined within a valve chamber that has three seats; the inner cylinder is provided with apertures on the rearward side of the piston and forwardly of the valve chamber so that the ball valve is carried by the fluid into either of two of the seats attendant piston advancement or retraction and maintained in such seat by a pressure differential established in the fluid by the travel of the piston.

Abstract: In an apparatus for closing a fireproof door, a holding device comprises a latch mechanism and a slider. The latch mechanism comprises an actuator member swingably supported in a housing which is provided with a tubular portion wherein a stopper is inserted and downwardly biased by a spring, the biasing force of the spring being adjustable by a screw which is threaded into the tubular portion. The slider is provided with an inclined surface at the front end thereof and a through-hole to receive the stopper therein. The slider is slid into the spacing formed between the actuator member and the housing with upwardly guiding the stopper by the inclined surface of the slider and the slider is locked by the stopper when it falls into the through-hole of the slider. The slider is released from the latch mechanism by swinging the actuator member or upwardly pushing the stopper against the biasing force of the spring.
