  • Patent number: 7537040
Abstract: A system for controlling a roller shade having a roller tube windingly receiving a shade fabric varies roller tube rotational speed for constant linear shade speed. The desired linear shade speed, roller tube diameter and shade fabric thickness and length are stored in a memory for use by a microprocessor. Preferably, the roller tube rotational speed is varied by the microprocessor depending on shade position determined by signals from Hall effect sensors. The microprocessor maintains a counter number that is increased or decreased depending on direction of rotation. Based on the counter number, the microprocessor determines shade position and a corrected rotational speed for the desired linear shade speed. Preferably, the microprocessor controls roller tube rotational speed using a pulse width modulated signal. The system may be used to control first and second roller shades having roller tubes of differing diameters or shade fabrics of varying thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 6776211
Abstract: A window shade for motor vehicles has a window shade web material 14 which is designed for being adapted during retraction and extension to the shape of the window, namely in respect to the width dimensions and/or in respect to the curvature. To this end, the window shade web material 14 is made either from a window shade web which can be expanded or stretched in the transverse direction, or from two or more non-expandable window shade webs 15 and 16 which, in the extended state, approximate the shape of the respective window in the desired manner. An additional mounting frame 65 can be used in all cases, in which the elements which are parts of the window shade are arranged, or stored, in order to create a component in this way, which can be installed as a whole in the vehicle on the assembly line.

Abstract: A retractable garage screen that can be installed inside a garage at a garage door opening where an existing overhead garage door is already installed without interfering with the operation of the existing garage door. The present invention installs just above an existing overhead garage door and employs some of the same hardware used in installing an overhead garage door. The screen door of the present invention is provided with a center zipper that allows the garage screen door to be retracted around the existing sectional door mechanism and also serves as a door for passing through the screen door when the screen door is in use.

Abstract: A modular covering for architectural openings includes a peripheral frame that supports a plurality of rotatable elements that might support strips or sheets of flexible material or rigid slats. The peripheral frame includes a drive system for rotating the members about their longitudinal axis and the members are mounted in the peripheral frame and joined to the drive system in a releasable manner so that they can be replaced. The covering elements supported by the rotatable members can therefore be easily replaced in the covering by replacing the pivotal member itself so as to allow for varied aesthetics and functionality.

  • Patent number: 6666251
Abstract: An energy saving shade system for residential dwelling windows having dimensions that vary within a range of frame widths and a range of frame heights, and including a pair of end caps, each being insertable in sealing relation against the top surface and one of the side surfaces of the frame. A pair of side rails, each having a cross-section to define channel openings of a depth equal to at least one half the range of frame widths are securable in sealing relation to respective side surfaces of the frame. A pair of shade supporting plates are receivable in the respective end caps, each of the shade supporting plates being laterally adjustable throughout approximately one half the range of frame widths. An impermeable, transparent shade and a thermal insulating shade of widths within the range of frame widths are wound on rollers mountable between the shade supporting plates, and extendible for the range of frame heights from the roller to the sill.

Abstract: Various embodiments of an architectural covering insert primarily adapted for use in simulated divided light openings is disclosed. The insert includes an outer framework with horizontal and vertical dividers, a plurality of horizontally or vertically disposed shade components associated with one or more dividers and control means for moving the shade components between extended and retracted positions across simulated openings defined by the vertical and horizontal dividers. The shade components can be of the roller shade type or collapsible cellular type with the net result being that, from a visual standpoint, there are shade components associated with each individual simulated opening defined by the horizontal and vertical dividers, as opposed to a single shade that covers the entire architectural opening.

  • Patent number: 6105653
Abstract: A header is received within an interior of a vehicle and secured against the roof portion thereof to extend transversely with respect to the front to back directions of the vehicle. The header supports a roller which in turn supports a flexible transparent or clear curtain which may be drawn downwardly to provide a portion of the vehicle air barrier to divide one portion of a vehicle interior from the other. A pair of side curtains are provided along each edge of the center curtain and are extendable outwardly to provide a further barrier to air circulation or air flow past the barrier. In one embodiment, the side curtains are formed of a flexible material and are hingedly secured to the vertical edges of the center curtain. In an alternate embodiment, a pair of side rollers are pivotally secured to the header and support respective side curtains which may be extended downwardly and drawn outwardly to complete the air barrier.
