  • Patent number: 4290473
Abstract: A device for controlling light transmission through an opening in which a pair of spaced planar parallel films are placed adjacent an opening. The films are selected to have uniformly and linearly varying light transmitting characteristics and are designed to be moved relative to each other, generally in opposite directions, so that a substantially uniform degree of light transmission is achieved over the entire opening area. The films may be either absorptive or reflective and the films may be moved manually or electrically and automatically in response to a sensing and control device.

  • Patent number: 4275645
Abstract: A closure for a service opening in a wall separating a frozen storage area from a warm area such as a kitchen or a warehouse loading dock includes at least a pair of spaced flexible curtain members. The curtains are fastened at one end to spaced parallel spring-loaded rollers positioned below the opening and are joined at their opposite ends in an elongated nozzle and connected by cables to power operated pulleys or drums positioned above the opening. The drums are declutchable from the power train to permit the spring-loaded rollers to wind up the curtains to open position and the clutch is re-engaged and the power drive actuated to unwind the curtains from the rollers to close the opening. A plenum chamber housing the rollers is pressurized to force warm side air between the curtains and out of the nozzle to create an air curtain across the opening when the curtains are open and during opening and closing cycles.

  • Patent number: 4237956
Abstract: Solar heat is utilized for heating a door structure whereby to minimize the escape of heat from within the building or other structure upon which such door is used. The door comprises at least two flexible sheets, one thereof constituting the principal door structure and the other constituting the heat generating means. The second sheet is spaced outwardly of the first sheet and parallel therewith. Both of the sheets are supported in any convenient manner such as on rollers either or both of which are preferably spring loaded for counterbalancing purposes. The inner sheet is normally opaque to normal light and heat radiation, such as by being made of steel, and constitutes the principal door. The other sheet is in one embodiment transparent to shortwave electromagnetic radiation but opaque to longwave electromagnetic radiation and may preferably constitute a piece of transparent flexible plastics material.

  • Patent number: 4231411
Abstract: A roller-blind assembly comprises a plurality of roller blinds each windable about a respective shaft having a pair of ends. A plurality of mounting assemblies are provided some of which enclose mechanism for operating the blinds and some of which merely act as support bearings for the ends of the shaft. In addition these housings which are all identical are formed at their front and rear sides with slots in which are engageable flanges of adapters that can secure a continuous cover plate over a plurality of such housings to mask the roller blinds supported thereon. A plurality of axially aligned such housings may be secured via adjustable clamps to a ceiling-mounted rail that in turn is formed with a flange carrying the cover plate.

  • Patent number: 4156449
Abstract: A sneeze and cough shield apparatus having an elongated disposable plastic sheet material usable with a food serving table to separate the food area from the patron area over a central area. The shield apparatus has upright end supports mounted on the table for supporting a plastic sheet member. A supply roll of transparent plastic sheet material extends over a support rod carried by one end support. A second support rod is carried by the other end support. A releasable holding bar retains the free end of the plastic sheet material on the second support rod.

  • Patent number: 4143698
Abstract: A portable and foldable wall partition is provided which includes a plurality of spaced-apart, slidable and heightwise adjustable upstanding vertical supports and a plurality of horizontally-extending lateral supports, each of which is pivotably supported at its ends between a pair of adjacent vertical supports to permit a width adjustment of the wall partition. A filler material is wound on the lateral supports and is unwound therefrom to serve as wall panels for the wall partition. The wall partition has an extremely light weight and high degree of stability. It easily accommodates a wide range of room dimensions while affording a highly effective seal with the floor, ceiling, and walls of the room in which it is installed.

  • Patent number: 4089361
Abstract: A backdrop display apparatus is disclosed for selectively displaying one of plurality of flexible backdrop sheets wound on backdrop supply rollers, respectively, including a stationary bracket device to which the backdrop supply rollers are rotatably connected in parallel, generally horizontally arranged relation, in combination with at least one first guide roller arranged parallel with, adjacent and at a lower elevation than one end roller of the supply rollers, whereby the backdrops unwound from the remaining ones of the supply rollers are guided by the first guide roller for suspension adjacent the position at which a backdrop sheet is suspended from the said one end roller. Second guide rollers are associated with the said remaining supply rollers to guide the backdrop sheets during transport toward the first guide roller in spaced relation to the other backdrop supply rollers. Transverse rods are secured as weights to the free ends of the backdrop sheets to tension the same.

  • Patent number: 4020889
Abstract: An apparatus for manipulating a multiple panel screen is disclosed in my U.S. Pat. No. 3,444,919, issued May 20, 1969. The patent shows a plurality of identical panels for regulating the visibility and the amount of light and air to be admitted. Each panel has a plurality of vertical columns of apertures separated by spaced apart horizontal strips. The panels are hung from a roller-shaped head piece and they are spaced apart from each other. When the screen is in normal position the apertures in successive panels are in alignment to permit the greatest amount of visibility and light. Novel means is used for rocking the head piece about its axis for vertically shifting the panels and their apertures with respect to each other for altering the visibility and light controlled by the screen. Additional novel means is used for rotating the head piece for rolling up the panels thereon for raising the screen or for unrolling the panels when lowering the screen.
