  • Patent number: 7311804
Abstract: Doctor blades are provided for multiple positions within a paper or board making machine. A single doctor blade of a standard length or a reel of doctor blade material has markings which permit a variety of doctor blade sizes to be readily cut. If a standard length doctor blade is used, the length of the blade is chosen to be at least as long as the longest doctor blade required for a particular papermaking machine. If the material is in a reel, the markings may be at regular numbered intervals. If a pattern of rivets is connected to the blade, and the rivets must have a given relationship with a blade holder, blade length may be marked out in such a way that some blade material is discarded in order to position the rivets when shorter blades are cut from the blade reel.

  • Patent number: 7048828
Abstract: A tissue paper crimper of greater rigidity is provided by mounting crimper disks to linear bearings which in turn are mounted to a carriage which can be positioned in the cross machine direction on a frame. The crimper disks are pressed against anvil roll pneumatic actuators. The use of linear bearings allows the crimper to run at higher operating speeds. An air knife is positioned so that a jet of air following a Coanda surface periodically blows against the rotating crimping wheel and thereby removes fibers before they build up. Buildup of fibers on the crimping wheels from the tissue webs being crimped can cause the wheels to become unbalanced, resulting in undesirable vibration. The rigid mounting and the prevention of fiber buildup will allow the crimper of this invention to operate at higher machine speeds.

Abstract: An apparatus for doctoring a moving surface includes a blade holder component extending longitudinally across the moving surface and carrying a doctor blade. A support component is parallel to and supports the blade holder component. A first operating mechanism rotatably urges the doctor blade in a doctoring direction into contact with the moving surface, resulting in the doctor blade being acted upon by a reactionary thrust force in the plane of the doctor blade and a reactionary rotational force in a direction opposite to the doctoring direction. A pair of mutually opposed parallel guide rails are provided on one of the components, and rotatable rollers are spaced along the length of the other of the component.

Abstract: A doctor blade for removing water, which excels in water removal capability and shape retention capacity, and suppresses abrasion of the belt or other mating member with which it cooperates, is a fibrous laminate comprising integrated base material and batt fiber layers. By impregnating resin into one side of the fibrous laminate, a layer in which the amount of impregnated resin is large and a layer in which the amount of impregnated resin is small are provided. In use, the layer in which the amount of resin is small is in contact with a belt or other mating member.
