Abstract: Apparatus for sealing a roll press including a seal extending along at least one of a pair of press rolls, the seal including a resilient member extending from the vat in which the press rolls are disposed towards one of the press rolls and a wear member attached to the resilient member for contacting the outer shell surface of the vat press roll whereby the wear member can be replaced upon wearing down of same.
Abstract: Liquids, such as sugar cane juices, are removed from fibrous materials by an apparatus which receives the fibrous, felt type or matted materials in strand form, for example from a sugar cane diffuser. Two hollow compression rollers having perforated circumferential walls are pressed toward each other for working in a compression range of about 0.5 kg/cm.sup.2 to about 50 kg/cm.sup.2, and form a material feed-in gap facing substantially upwardly. The rollers are arranged above liquid collecting troughs. Lateral funnel forming walls sealingly close the ends of the feed-in gap so that the rollers together with these lateral walls form a feed-in funnel. Material entraining members cover the holes in the perforated circumferential roller walls but with a spacing between the outer roller wall surface and the respective entraining member to form a liquid flow channel into each hole. The material is supplied into the feed-in gap through a substantially vertically extending chute reaching to or into said funnel.
Abstract: Sawdust is mixed with partially concentrated black liquor from pulp manufacture. The sawdust, coated with the solids of the black liquor, is dried by heated air. The sawdust, coated with organic and inorganic black liquor solids, is fed to the hearth of a chemical recovery boiler. Combustion of the char formed on the boiler hearth produces heat which causes additional organic material to pyrolize. The inorganic material combines to form molten smelt. The moisture-laden, heated air from the dryer is introduced into the boiler with the secondary air and the smelt is tapped off into an aqueous solution to form green liquor.

Abstract: A device for carrying out liquid treatment of a fiber pulp suspension to form a running fiber web includes an arc-shaped duct having various portions. The first portion has a converging cross-section for compressing the fiber pulp suspension to form the fiber web. The second portion has a diverging cross-section for the expansion of the fiber web and includes a liquid-treatment zone. The third portion has a converging cross-section for compressing the fiber web. Along its length, the duct is defined inwardly by a rotary cylindrical screen member and radially outwardly by a stationary wall member.
