Assembling Of Mold Parts Patents (Class 164/137)
  • Patent number: 6148898
Abstract: A pouring method and a pouring plant are described. Mould sections (15) are produced piecewise with cavities at two opposite ends thereof. The mold sections are combined in a line (15A-15D), wherein the cavities define a mold cavity (15a) having an exposed pour cup (30). The line of mold sections is advanced incrementally by drive means (16, 162) through an increment length that corresponds to the length of the mold sections (15), to and through a molding station (50). The true lengths of the produced sections (15) are measured and registered. The difference in length between the first mold section (15D) in the line (15A-15D) that lies immediately upstream of a pour cup (30), where a pouring operation was last carried out, and the last mold section (15A) in the line is calculated.

Abstract: A core is formed and a prefabricated bearing bore is provided. Two separate projections are provided on the core wherein free projection edges of the two separate projections have a respective shaping radius between R=0.sub.mm and R.ltoreq.0.45.sub.mm. Subsequently indentations are produced in a circumferential area of the bearing bore by the two separate projections on the core wherein the indentations serve as fracture notches. The cast engine part is then formed by casting metal around the core using said fraction notches as incipient crack sites.

Abstract: The isolator core cooperates with companion core elements in a casting operation to form a short coolant jacket surrounding the upper portion of each engine cylinder adjacent the air/fuel combustion chamber and an air pocket that surrounds the lower region of the cylinder. Drainback passage core elements may be formed integrally with the isolator core thereby reducing the total number of cores in the casting mold package during a casting operation, the finished casting thereby eliminating dividing walls between the isolator and the oil drain cores thus reducing the number of core elements and reducing the cost and complexity of the casting operation as well as reducing the weight of the finished casting. The isolator core may be used independently of cylinder liners during the casting operation.

Abstract: The mold comprises an outer mold part (10) which defines a mold cavity (11). Walls of the outer mold part form the outer surface of the combined engine block and cylinder head. There also are first and second inner mold parts (12, 13) which extend into the mold cavity and are maintained a distance from each other. Each of the first and second inner mold parts have a cylindrical portion (12a, 13a) which, during the casting procedure, forms the cylinder bores in the engine block. The first and second inner mold parts (12, 13) also each have an upper portion (12b, 13b) situated above the cylindrical portion. During the casting procedure the upper portions form portions of a combustion chamber common to the cylinder bores. The mold further includes an third inner mold part (15) which extends through the outer mold part (10) and cooperates with the first and second inner mold parts (12, 13) to form the combustion chamber during the casting procedure.
