    Abstract: A laminated or single layer glass cylinder and its method of making are disclosed. The laminated cylinder glass is a precursor component to enable making subsequent drawn tubing having high optical quality. The laminated cylinder glass may comprise a first layer of glass as a clad glass and a second layer of glass as a core glass. The second layer of glass may be bound to the first layer of glass. The second layer may have a higher CTE from about 5×10?7/° C. to about 100×10?7/° C. than the first layer of glass. The first layer and second layer of glass may have different softening points within about 200° C. of each other. In some embodiments, the first layer and second layer of glass may have different softening points from about 50° C. to about 200° C. of each other.

    Abstract: A device and method for producing, by molding, a circular-shaped mechanical part made of a metal alloy. The device has a rotatable hollow mold for receiving a predetermined quantity of the metal alloy. The predetermined quantity of the metal alloy is defined by at least one segment of a metal alloy rod. An inductive heating device melts the metal alloy to a melting point. A blank of the mechanical part being formed by centrifuging the melted metal alloy. Cooling the blank in the hollow mold to a second temperature which corresponds to a desired malleability. Processing the blank with a shaping tool to obtain a desired internal profile. To harden and form the circular-shaped mechanical part, the blank is further cooled to a tempering temperature.

    Abstract: A mold used in centrifuge casting is cooled by taking advantage of inherent characteristics of the centrifugal casting process, and in particular the shape of the remaining sprue. The sprue has a conical profile and a conical depression formed by a vortex which results from the spinning mold. The cooling apparatus comprises a housing and plunger which engage the surface of the sprue and draw heat from the mold. Thermal conduction from the hot metal through the runners and sprue to the cooling head allows a mold to cool faster than traditional methods.

Still further, the improved casting device comprises essentially three supporting shafts, one of which may be driven, so relatively located as to simultaneously support for rotating two molds, whereby two castings may be made from a supporting and driving shaft system powered by a single motor or the like.

The pouring device includes a feed funnel adapted to receive the molten babbitt from the batcher, a pipe enclosed in the axis of the sleeve, a connecting pipe supplying the molten babbitt from the feed funnel into the pipe, and a chute onto which the molten babbitt is delivered from the pipe through an opening provided therein.

After a predetermined cooling period, a mechanical latch release allows the rotating, loaded receptacles to dump radially to a suitable conveyor and the cycle may be repeated.

A source of fluid under pressure is connected to the inside of the chamber to expand the latter and urge the sealing member against the flange.
