Abstract: A method for the tilt casting of a component from light metal, in particular of an aluminum alloy, uses a tilt casting mold having a mold cavity. The melt is continuously poured directly into the casting run of the tilt casting mold, which forms the sprue of the component, at the beginning of and during the tilting movement of the tilt casting mold, using a casting ladle or a casting scoop, and flows through the casting run into the mold cavity of the tilt casting mold from the beginning, wherein the casting ladle or the casting scoop continuously tracks the casting mold during the tilting movement.

Abstract: The present invention provides a water spot cooling apparatus, a water spot cooling method for casting a mold, a method for manufacturing the water spot cooling apparatus and use of the water spot cooling apparatus. The technical solution of the present invention has the following advantages: spot cooling of multiple spots can be realized on each side mold by using only one water inlet pipeline, thereby saving the water cooling pipeline and facilitating field installation; the water inlet and outlet are integrated on a main body, thereby facilitating field implementation; the whole apparatus is easy to process, convenient to maintain, and low in manufacturing cost; and it is not restricted by the product structure and facilitates promotion.

Abstract: The present invention provides a water spot cooling device of a bottom mold for wheel hub casting, a method for cooling a bottom mold by using the device, and a method for manufacturing the device. The device and the method of the present invention have the advantages that multi-path spot cooling required by spoke cooling is integrated into one device; the influence of backwater on the mold is eliminated and stable production is benefited; the effluent water from the multi-path spot cooling is gathered to one backwater opening through a backwater crossing and a backwater annular passage, thereby simplifying a backwater device and making the pipeline connection of the device simpler; and there is no special part in the whole device so that the machining cost is reduced and the maintenance is more convenient.

Techniques are also described that utilize protrusions to counteract thermal expansion and subsequent contraction of the metal alloy upon cooling. Further, techniques are described in which a radius of edges of a feature is configured to encourage flow and reduce voids. A variety of other techniques are also described herein.

Abstract: An apparatus for casting metals by a nucleated casting technique to create a preform, the apparatus including a mold having a base and a side wall where the base can be moved relative to the side wall to withdraw the preform as it is being created. In various circumstances, portions of a droplet spray created by an atomizing nozzle, i.e., overspray, may accumulate on a top surface of the side wall and prevent or inhibit the preform from being moved relative to the side wall. The atomizing nozzle can be oriented such that the droplet spray passes over the top of the side wall to remelt and remove at least a portion of the overspray that has accumulated thereon. The mold can be rotated such that the overspray formed on a region of or on the entire perimeter of the top surface can pass through the droplet spray and can be removed from the side wall.

Abstract: An apparatus for press casting includes a casting mold formed of a fixed mold and a first moving mold operable to move relative to the fixed mold. The apparatus further includes a second moving mold operable to move relative to the first moving mold. A mold cavity, which forms a cast product, is configured by the fixed mold and the second moving mold. When the first moving mold is moved to a first predetermined position, a molten metal passage and a gas exhaust port, which communicate with the mold cavity, are formed at positions outside the mold cavity. A communication between the mold cavity and the molten metal passage, and the gas exhaust port is cut off by the second moving mold when the second moving mold is moved to a second predetermined position while the first moving mold is maintained at the first predetermined position thereof.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to surely provide a projection of burr by forming an appropriate gap needed to set a cast-in member to a cast-in mold, and by completely closing the gap when the cast-in mold is clamped, and to correct a cast-in positioning (axis mating) to a die-cast component by a clamping operation of the die-cast mold, regardless of a dimensional precision of the cast-in member upon a manufacture. A steel plate cast-in member 2, which is wrapped cast except for a bonding portion 2b to a steel plate bonding member 3 upon molding a die-cast component 1, has a mold contact portion A at a boundary between a cast-in portion 2a wrapped cast with a die-cast component 1 and the bonding portion 2b. When a cast-in mold A is clamped, the mold contact portion 4 is brought into intimate butting contact with the cast-in mold A, whereby a gap S between the cast-in member 2 and the cast-in mold A, i.e., a cavity is closed. Thus, a projection of burr is prevented.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a die-casting mold structure for a thin-walled shell for electrical connectors and a method for designing the mold structure. The runner of the mold structure includes a longitudinal runner, a transverse runner, an end runner, and an in-gate connected sequentially. The cross-sectional areas of the longitudinal runner, the transverse runner, the end runner, and the in-gate decrease progressively. The cross sections of the longitudinal runner and the transverse runner may be oval or circular in shape. The perimeter-to-area ratio of the oval cross section of the longitudinal runner and of the transverse runner is smaller than the ratio for a runner with a rectangular cross section of the same area. The method may be used to calculate the in-gate area. Cold shuts and gas entrapment during the molding process are reduced, enhancing the quality of the thin-walled shell and raising the efficiency of the design process.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a die-casting mold structure for a thin-walled mini zinc alloy shell. The mold structure includes a longitudinal runner, a transverse runner, an end runner, and a mold cavity all connected serially to provide a path for a liquid metal. The end runner and the mold cavity are connected through an in-gate. The liquid metal flows through the in-gate and enters the mold cavity at an incidence angle of approximately 30 to 45 degrees. The liquid metal is incident on the mold cavity near the rear end surface of the mold cavity. The direction of the liquid metal flow is controlled as the liquid metal flows through the runners and into the cavity so as to reduce the amount of air mixed into the liquid metal. The result is that the liquid metal can fill the mold cavity more satisfactorily, reducing casting defects and increasing product yield.

Abstract: BMG may be squeeze cast in a squeeze cast machine. The squeeze cast machine may have a vacuum chamber, a transfer sleeve entirely located inside the vacuum chamber, and a plunger inside the transfer sleeve. The transfer sleeve may be configured to receive BMG feedstock from outside the vacuum chamber. The vacuum chamber may prevent contamination of a BMG in a molten state. The plunger may push a BMG in a molten state into a mold.

Abstract: The present invention provides processes for die casting metals which are more energy efficient and less expensive than the current metal die casting processes. The die casting processes discussed herein utilize a water-soluble die release fluid and hydraulic equipment which uses water-insoluble hydraulic fluid. By doing so, the hydraulic fluid and die release fluid present in the waste collected from the die casting process can be collected via separation techniques. One or both of the collected hydraulic fluid and die release fluid may then be re-used in the same die casting process, another die casting process, or another processes altogether.

Abstract: A three-plate die casting tool has a gating system, and a gating system is used in the tool. The tool includes a gating cone, at least one gating distributor channel connected with the gating cone, as well as at least one gating sprue connected with the at least one gating distributor channel. The gating cone makes a transition into at least one gating distributor channel that deflects the casting material capable of flow. The gating distributor channel opens into a kind of central gating distributor location, from which multiple gating re-distributor channels proceed, which make a transition, in each instance, into at least one, preferably only one gating sprue that deflects the casting material capable of flow. The gating sprues form the connection or the entry to the cast component.

Abstract: A high-temperature die casting die includes a first die plate with a first recess and a second die plate with a second recess, the first and second recesses defining a main part cavity and gating. A grain selector is in fluid communication with the main cavity, and an in situ zone refining apparatus is adapted to apply a localized thermal gradient to at least one of the first and second die plates. The localized thermal gradient and the at least one die plate are movable relative to each other so as to apply the localized thermal gradient along a first direction extending from the grain selector longitudinally across the main part cavity.

The casting apparatus for a cylinder head is connected with a mold by a pressing unit and a connection pipe and casts a product by pressing and injecting molten metal into the mold. A heat treatment method for the cylinder head manufactured by the apparatus includes: a molten metal supply unit that stores and stabilizes supplied molten metal and a pressing unit that is separately formed from the molten metal supply unit, receives the stabilized molten metal from the molten metal supply unit, and supplies the molten metal to the mold. In addition, a stopper that is soaked in the molten metal in the molten metal supply unit controls the amount of molten metal sent to the pressing unit.

The bridge manifold and the sub-manifolds are oriented in a common plane. The bridge manifold receives a melt from a melt source. Each of the sub-manifolds is coupled to the bridge manifold to receive the melt from the bridge manifold via a junction between an opening of a network of melt channels within the bridge manifold and an opening of a network of melt channels within each of the sub-manifolds. The sub-manifolds are urged against the bridge manifold to form a seal therebetween, when the bridge manifold and the sub-manifolds thermally expand urging the sub-manifolds against contact regions of a pair of opposing walls of the pocket. The respective opposing walls define a hollow region separated from the respective contact regions by a wall portion.

In another example, a method of using a thermal blanket includes keeping a molten material in a molten state during a dwell time extending from first introduction of the molten material until pressurization. Also described is a novel thermal blanket and method of manufacturing the same.

A molding manufacturing method includes manufacturing a preform by semimolten die casting or semisolid die casting using the mold. The method may also include removing a portion of the preform corresponding to the second groove part.

Abstract: An intermediate stalk (10) that is used for a low-pressure die-casting apparatus includes a metal covering material (2), and a precast refractory material (1) that is removably fitted into the metal covering material (2), an air release opening (3) being formed between the metal covering material (2) and the precast refractory material (1) when viewed from above. According to the present invention, an intermediate stalk that allows water to be sufficiently released from the refractory heat insulator during heating, does not explode, does not produce cracks in the refractory heat insulator due to the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion between the refractory heat insulator and the metal covering material, and allows easy replacement of the refractory heat insulator, a method of producing the same, and a low-pressure die-casting apparatus can be provided.
