Including Valved Mold Gate Patents (Class 164/304)
  • Patent number: 10894286
Abstract: A high-pressure die casting apparatus including a shot sleeve extending through a first die half to a molding surface, and a plunger received in the shot sleeve is provided. The shot sleeve includes a side wall presenting a fluid passageway and a partial end wall disposed in a fixed position relative to the side wall. The partial end wall defines a wall opening adjacent the molding surface. Fluid is poured into the shot sleeve while the die apparatus is open, and the partial end wall prevents the fluid from flowing out of the shot sleeve. The plunger then presses the material into the mold cavity until only a portion of the material remains in the shot sleeve and blocks the wall opening. After the solidified material is ejected from the apparatus, the portion of material blocking the wall opening prevents lubricant from entering the shot sleeve.

Abstract: A molding apparatus (30) is configured so as to form a molten metal holding space (41a) by dividing the inside of a connecting portion (41) into the molten metal holding space (41a) and a molten metal supply port-side space (41b) by closing an on-off valve (42), and pump up molten metal (5) from a molten metal furnace (50) into the molten metal holding space (41a) of the connecting portion (41) with a pump (40). Then a pressure of the molten metal (5) that has been pumped up into the molten metal holding space (41a) is reduced by a pressure-reducing portion, and the molten metal holding space (41a) inside the connecting portion (41) is communicated with a molten metal supply port (6) of an injection sleeve (2) by opening the on-off valve (42), and the molten metal (5), the pressure of which has been reduced in the molten metal holding space (41a), is supplied into the injection sleeve (2).

  • Publication number: 20080115907
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the casting of metal components is disclosed. The apparatus includes a gooseneck for drawing molten metal from a crucible of hot metal and for forcing the drawn molten metal through the system, a hot runner assembly having a hot runner tip positioned adjacent the mold cavity, and a machine nozzle inserted between the gooseneck and the hot runner assembly. The gooseneck is fitted with a one-way check valve to allow for molten metal to be drawn into the plunger but to stop its passage out of the gooseneck when the metal is forced through the system into the die. A thermal valve is formed within the hot runner tip to provide a metal blockage from the molten metal which prevents the back-flow of molten metal back into the hot runner assembly. Both temperature and flow rate are carefully monitored and controlled.

  • Patent number: 4060122
Abstract: A low pressure die casting machine for light alloys, of the type in which a charge of molten alloy is received in a charging chamber which is then closed and pressurized to drive the molten alloy into a die chamber formed by a plurality of separable die elements, in which the problems due to head metal and casting sprue in the casting passages and gates is minimized by forming these latter, as well as the charging chamber, as recesses in cooperating faces of two of the die elements, these recesses being so shaped that upon separation of the two die elements the casting sprue and head metal are exposed and can be ejected still attached to the casting without fouling any part of the die casting machine and without leaving any solidified head metal behind which might cause blockage problems unless it were maintained in a molten state.
