Rotary Mold Patents (Class 164/422)
  • Publication number: 20080251229
Abstract: In the case of a strand guiding roller with at least one roller shell and with hat least two supporting shafts, two supporting shafts being respectively connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a roller shell and each supporting shaft being rotatably supported in a supporting bearing, to achieve a type of construction that is simple and can withstand the high thermal and mechanical loading that occurs, it is proposed that the roller shell is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the supporting shafts carrying it on both sides by shrink-fit connections or by press-fit connections.

  • Patent number: 6895650
Abstract: A process for producing a spatially shaped carrier layer (3) which is of foil-like design from hard brittle material includes: providing a basic mold (1) having a spatially shaped surface, depositing a material which is in the gas or liquid phase on the spatially shaped surface, solidifying the material which has been deposited on the spatially shaped surface to form a hard brittle material layer (3), and separating the hard brittle material layer (3) from the spatially shaped surface in order to obtain the carrier layer (3) which consists of hard brittle material.

  • Patent number: 5456308
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a thin amorphous metal strip. Molten metal is injected onto a single cooling roll rotating at high speed. A gas flow impeding wall is disposed adjacent to the surface of a cooling roll and extends across the body of the cooling roll. The wall is located upstream of the molten metal injection nozzle. CO.sub.2 gas is jetted along one surface of the gas insulating wall which faces the molten metal injection nozzle and toward the surface of the cooling roll. An atmosphere rich in CO.sub.2 gas is maintained adjacent the roll surface just upstream of the molten metal injection nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5311921
Abstract: A pulverulent casting auxiliary (6) is removed from a supply tank (1) in the fluidized state and conveyed through a screw conveyor (10) via a continuous-casting mold (12). At the end of the screw conveyor (10) a return line (30) is provided via which the quantity of casting auxiliary (6) not removed at the removal points (19) disposed over the bath surface (18) is returned into the supply tank (1) in a circulating manner.

  • Patent number: 4974660
Abstract: The process and apparatus according to the invention relates to the continuous casting of hollow bodies of metals such as aluminium, copper, steels of all types, or other metals or alloys. The process comprises introducing a liquid metal into an annular space between an outer mold and an inner mandrel, the liquid metal being subjected in the vicinity of the mandrel to the action of a movable magnetic field which entrains it in an upward direction. The magnetic field is preferably generated by a magnetic rotor which is disposed in the mandrel. The process is used in particular for producing blanks intended for the production of non-welded pipes and tubes.

  • Patent number: 4775000
Abstract: An apparatus and process for the continuous casting of tubular shapes wherein molten metal from which the tubular shape is formed is centrifugally deposited adjacent to the outlet of a fluid-cooled mold by a nozzle assembly, with the metal being cooled and rapidly solidified by the mold to form a cylindrical shell upon which additional metal is deposited to incrementally build the thickness of the tubular shape. The tubular shape being formed is withdrawn continuously from the mold, and is further cooled by coolant directed thereon. The nozzle assembly may be rotated to discharge the molten metal or, alternatively, the mold may be rotated as the metal is deposited thereon. Single-layer tubular shapes, with or without reinforcing material, may be cast and multiple-layer composite shapes may be produced having layers of different material composition and thicknesses. An inert atmosphere is maintained to prevent oxidation of the molten metal.

  • Patent number: 4573523
Abstract: A continuous centrifugal casting machine employs a rotating water cooled mould in which a tubular mould cavity is formed by a number of pallet conveyors, each having an upper run defining a part cylinder. The conveyors are driven so that the tubular mould which they form moves with the casting, thus eliminating relative movement between the mould and the casting. The conveyors are housed inside a rotating drum so that centrifugal force causes molten metal such as steel poured against the wall of the mould cavity at one end to form a comparatively thin walled tube which is withdrawn from the other end of the mould cavity. The tube may be spirally slit to form sheet.

  • Patent number: 4196770
Abstract: A continuous vertical casting line includes an elongated vertical casing of U-shaped section with a continuous casting mold at the upper end of the casing. Within the casing are rotatable support rings for supporting guiding rollers along the axis of the blank cast by the casting mold. The roller portion of the casing supports an extractor in the form of a single pair of extraction rollers. The extraction rollers are mounted on a support rotatable by a mechanism in a stationary base. The roller support is removably retained on its base, and the base is removably retained in the casing. The arrangement permits substantial reduction in weight of the casting line and simplifies both the construction of the casting line and the removal and replacement of components.
