  • Patent number: 4220192
Abstract: A combined roller support bar and spray cooling system for mounting at the open bottom of a vertically arranged molten metal continuous casting mold carries a horizontally axised roller which engages and guides the cast slab portion emerging from the mold. The bar is provided with a longitudinal passageway into which cooling water is flowed. The water flows out through numerous transverse passageways formed in the bar, which terminate in nozzle ends oriented to spray the water above and below the roller against the adjacent slab surface for cooling purposes. The spray water cools the interior of the support bar, as it flows through the passageways, to prevent heat caused warping and twisting and thereby maintain the pre-set, accurate orientation of the roller and nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4214625
Abstract: The invention is concerned with support rolls for continuous casting machines and such continuous casting machines. In a continuous casting machine the strands being cast are each supported by individual pinch rolls. The invention provides a pinch roll assembly capable of supporting more than one strand simultaneously, the pinch roll being mounted on a drive shaft by means of a spherical bearing so that the roll can articulate on the shaft. A compression spring arrangement is provided so that articulation can occur only when a lateral force greater than a predetermined value is applied to the roller. The invention also provides continuous casting apparatus incorporating such pinch rolls.

  • Patent number: 4211273
Abstract: An arrangement at a continuous casting plant, in particular a continuous casting plant for slabs, includes strand guiding rollers supported by means of supporting brackets or holding means, and a strand guiding stand for bracing the holding means via load measuring devices. Load measuring devices, including a supporting head, are each inserted in a bushing that is mounted on the strand guiding stand and is open towards the roller. The supporting head of the measuring means is directed towards the strand guiding roller and is peripherally surrounded by the bushing so as to leave free a narrow annular gap. Grease under pressure is provided in the space between the bushing and the load measuring device and emerges at the annular gap, thus forming a grease ring.

  • Patent number: 4197903
Abstract: A supporting and guiding arc for continuously cast strands has roller paths, whose rollers are mounted in arcuate longitudinal carriers arranged in a supporting framework, to support the strands at opposing sides. The arc has two parts detachably connected and carrying the roller paths, i.e. an arc outer framework part carrying the outer roller path and an arc inner part carrying the inner roller path. The two parts are connected by a number of drawing anchors arranged at a distance from each other and at right angles to the roller paths. These anchors are detachable from one of the parts and are removable out of the connecting position with that part. The arc inner part carrying the arc inner roller path is pivotable, in the arc plane on the framework carrying the outer roller path, about a pivot axle arranged on the lower, run-out end of the framework.

  • Patent number: 4197904
Abstract: A support guide arrangement or roller apron framework for a continuous casting installation having guide rolls and drive rolls, the rolls associated with each strand path of travel are mounted in sections at traverses or cross members and the oppositely situated traverses are adjustable by spindles as to their mutual spacing along a guide and movable away from one another, against the action of resilient load limiting means, in the presence of overloads. At least one of the oppositely situated traverses is pivotably guided at yokes which are adjustable by the spindles along the guide about axes extending essentially parallel to the rolls. At the yokes there are mounted stops which limit the positional advancement of the traverse towards a reference strand path of travel and the resilient load limiters are effectively arranged between the yokes and the traverse.
