Surface-type Heat Exchanger Patents (Class 165/113)
  • Patent number: 11802360
Abstract: A fluid flow system for a laundry appliance includes a blower that delivers process air along an airflow path having a heat exchanger. A drain channel receives condensate from the heat exchanger and fluid spray from a spray nozzle for directing lint particles to the drain channel and on to a sump for collecting fluid, including the condensate. A pump seat and a fluid outlet are integrally formed in a sump cover. A pump directs the fluid from the sump to the fluid outlet. A fluid level sensor detects at least minimum and maximum capacities of the fluid in the sump. When the fluid is below the minimum capacity, the pump defines an idle state. When the fluid reaches the minimum capacity, the pump defines an active state. When the fluid exceeds the maximum capacity, the pump directs the fluid to the fluid outlet.

Abstract: A steam condenser which condenses steam exhausted from a steam turbine. Heat transfer tubes are arrayed below the steam turbine inside the container. Cooling medium flows inside the heat transfer tubes. The heat transfer tubes extend horizontally, and include at least two upper heat transfer tube groups and at least two lower heat transfer tube groups arranged with a gap between each other. Each heat transfer tube group is constituted by arraying heat transfer tubes like a grid. At a lower part between the lower heat transfer tube groups, a baffle plate which obstructs flow of steam extends horizontally. Between the upper and lower heat transfer tube groups, inter-tube-group inundation prevention plates extend horizontally. In each heat transfer tube group, an enclosure part extends to guide gas from the enclosure part to outside of the container through a gas extraction duct.

Abstract: A blade heat exchanger includes blades that extend axially with respect to an axis of rotation and are elongated in the radial direction. The blades are arranged about the axis such that, when they are disposed in a housing, they form composite condensation and evaporation chambers that are isolated from each other. The interiors of at least some of the blades form the composite condensation chamber. The exteriors of the blades and the inner surface of the housing cooperate to form the composite evaporation chamber.

  • Patent number: 7096931
Abstract: Ribbed heat exchange tubes in which the aspect ratio of the ribs is less than 5, provide greater indirect heat exchange than conventional heat exchange tubes with or without fins, when used in a slurry comprising a liquid phase, in which is dispersed flowing gas bubbles or particulate solids and flowing gas bubbles. The ribs, and typically also the longitudinal axis of the heat exchange tubes, are aligned in a direction parallel to, or spirally along the gas bubble flow direction. This is useful to increase either (i) the productivity of a slurry Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis reactor without an increase in the temperature in the reactor or (ii) increasing the production of higher molecular weight hydrocarbons by reducing the reaction temperature at a given feed conversion.

  • Patent number: 6923250
Abstract: A louver assembly is disclosed for use in a heat exchanger associated with a liquid basin. The louver assembly is made of a plurality of generally vertically oriented, non-corrugated sheets attached to adjacent corrugated sheets of material. Spaces between the corrugations and the non-corrugated sheets form air passageways extending downwardly through the louver assembly from an inlet face to an outlet face of the louver assembly. The corrugated and non-corrugated sheets have a V-shape in a top plan view defined by two acute angles X and Y on one surface of the sheets with respect to a transverse reference plane, resulting in a vertex angle Z on an opposite surface of the sheets of about 120° to about 140°. The V-shape of the sheets provides each of the corrugations and air passageways with a single inlet portion and a single outlet portion.

  • Patent number: 6852147
Abstract: A gas reduction apparatus 12 is provided for reducing the amount of gas 15 emitted from a cooling tower 10 into the atmosphere. The apparatus 12 in accordance with the principles of this invention includes a first air conduit 13 which collects the gas 15 and chemical particles therein released from the cooling tower 10 before they are released into the atmosphere. The conduit 13 then provides a path for the gas 15 and chemical particles formed therein to flow to a liquefier 16. The liquefier 16 converts the gas 15 to a liquid 17. A filter 32 is coupled adjacent the liquefier 16 to separate the chemical particles released into the liquefier from the liquid 17 formed in the liquefier. The liquid 17 is then directed through an outlet conduit 34 to a cooling tower reservoir 36 where it finds itself back into the cooling tower 10.

  • Patent number: 6764660
Abstract: A process and apparatus for contacting reactants with a particulate catalyst while indirectly heating the reactants with a heat exchange medium improves temperature control by using an intermediate heat exchange fluid and system to prevent overheating of reactants and maintain parallel heating characteristics through multiple reaction-heat exchange zones. The internal flow path minimizes the circulation of the reaction zone heat exchange fluid by incorporating interstage reheating of the reaction zone heat exchange fluid as it passes in series flow. A particularly useful application of the process and apparatus is in the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to produce styrene. The process and apparatus can also be used with simultaneous exchange of catalyst particles by an operation that restricts reactant flow while moving catalyst through reaction stacks in which the reactant flow has been restricted.
