Abstract: A tubular heat exchanger includes a substantially cylindrical sheathing tube having a center piece and two end pieces of a length which is shorter than a length of the center piece. Two perforated bases are respectively received in the end pieces and sized to occupy a cross section thereof, and two end caps are respectively secured to axial ends of the end pieces. Extending in substantial parallel relationship inside the sheathing tube between the perforated bases are a plurality of internal tubes to thereby define a first fluid space between an inner surface of the sheathing tube and outer surfaces of the internal tubes, and a separate second fluid space bounded by inner surfaces of the internal tubes and the end caps on the end pieces. A lateral connection pipe is secured to each end piece and fluidly communicates with the first fluid space in a region adjacent to the perforated bases for supply and drainage, respectively, of a first fluid flowing through the first fluid space.

In the condenser, vapor, which is supplied to a cooling pipe (14) connected to cooling fins (16), is cooled, condensed into water, and recovered in a water-collecting tray (21) provided beneath the cooling pipe (14), and a needle-shaped member (24) provided so as to face the lower end opening of the cooling pipe (14) ruptures the droplet that, due to surface tension, resides in the lower end opening of the cooling pipe (14) and makes it drop into the water-collecting tray (21).

Abstract: In an apparatus provided with a plate type heat exchanger as a heater and/or a cooler and operated to treat a gas containing an easily blocking substance, a method for preventing the plate type heat exchanger from being blocked is disclosed which is characterized by i) setting the width of a flow path on a plate of the plate type heat exchanger in the apparatus in a range of 6-25 mm and ii) setting the average flow rate of the gas passing the plate type heat exchanger in the apparatus per unit cross-sectional area of the flow path on the plate in the range of 3-15 m/s. In the exchange of heat of an easily blocking substance by the use of a plate type heat exchanger, a method for preventing the plate type heat exchanger from blockage is disclosed which has the plate type heat exchanger provided in the port for introducing a gas containing an easily blocking substance with a gas dispersion plate.

  • Patent number: 6845813
Abstract: A flow distributor for mounting in an inlet of a heat exchanger includes a nose cone and one or more diverting rings. The nose cone is aerodynamically shaped to divert impingent gas flow around the nose cone. A first diverting ring is spaced outwardly from the nose cone and can be oriented such that at least a portion of the gas flow diverted by the nose cone is redirected into the wake of the nose cone. A second diverting ring can be spaced outwardly from the first diverting ring and can be oriented to divert gas flow impingent thereon. Struts connect the nose cone and one or more rings. Refractory on the wall of the inlet is shaped to reduce the recirculation at the outer perimeter thereof. The flow distributor is installed in the inlet with refractory to achieve substantially equal flow across the tube sheet of the heat exchanger.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for filtering particulate matter from internal combustion engine coolant where a replaceable filter is connected between the heater core supply and return lines. A portion of the normal engine coolant flow is directed from a heater hose through a paper or media filter in order to remove particulate matter such as rust and scale. A filter assembly comprised of a housing with inlet and outlet ports may installed in a new engine or may be retrofitted to an existing engine by cutting the heater hoses, installing tees, and connecting the filter housing to the tees with short sections of hose. An alternate embodiment includes a housing that clamps directly to the heater hoses so that a portion of the flow is directed through the filter.

To prevent a short circuit of the outlet opening (37a) during operation, the opening is closed by a valve stem (33) coupled to the threaded cover (11) and opened by unscrewing the cover.
