  • Patent number: 10773569
Abstract: A cooling apparatus for vehicle includes a radiator, a coolant pump, a cooling fan, first and second mode controllers, and an abnormality diagnosing controller. The radiator cools a coolant that circulates through a circulation flow channel of a cooling system. The coolant pump causes the coolant to circulate through the circulation flow channel. The cooling fan faces the radiator. The first mode controller initiates a first operation mode process upon diagnosing an abnormality of the cooling system. The first operation mode process stops the coolant pump and drives the cooling fan. The second mode controller initiates a second operation mode process after completion of the first operation mode process. The second operation mode process stops the cooling fan and drives the coolant pump. The abnormality diagnosing controller diagnoses, based on a temperature of the radiator, the abnormality of the cooling system after the initiation of the second operation mode process.

  • Patent number: 8931545
Abstract: A heat exchanger arrangement is provided for an internal-combustion engine having a heat engine, which converts hot steam of a working medium by way of an expansion device to kinetic energy. The working medium, that can be delivered by a pump, can be heated in a first heat exchanger by a coolant and in a second heat exchanger by an exhaust gas of the internal-combustion engine. In the delivery direction, the working medium first flows through the first heat exchanger and, subsequently, through the second heat exchanger. The exhaust gas can flow through the first heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 8925620
Abstract: A windshield washer fluid heater for an automotive vehicle has an elongated housing with two open ends and in which the housing defines a housing chamber. A tubular subhousing divides the housing chamber into an outer housing chamber and an inner housing chamber. A core is disposed in the inner housing chamber and this core forms an annular chamber between the core and the subhousing. A pair of end caps is attached to the ends of the housing and these end caps sealingly engage the housing and the subchamber to fluidly separate the outer housing chamber from the annular chamber. The housing includes a washer fluid passageway which fluidly connects a washer fluid port on the end cap with the annular chamber as well as a coolant fluid passageway which fluidly connects a coolant port on each end cap with the housing chamber.

Abstract: A heat exchanger for an aircraft engine includes: a body including a plate-like first member and a plate-like second member that are stacked in a thickness direction of the first and second members and joined together, and a channel which is defined in the body and in which the cooling target fluid flows; and a corrugated fin plate disposed in the channel in the body. The body is bent along a curved surface to which the heat exchanger is attached. A plurality of heat dissipation fins stand on an outer surface of at least one of the first member or the second member.

Abstract: A method, comprising during a vehicle engine cold start, opening a first valve coupled between a first container containing an adsorbent and a second container containing an adsorbate, circulating a first fluid through a first conduit coupled to a first heat exchanger located within the first container and a second heat exchanger located outside the first container, and circulating a second fluid through a second conduit coupled to the second heat exchanger. In this way, heat may be generated at the adsorber during a cold start and subsequently transferred to the cooling jacket of the vehicle engine and/or other vehicle compartments, thereby decreasing the warm-up time for the engine.

  • Publication number: 20140352636
Abstract: A cooling system has an engine heat exchanger in thermal communication with engine oil in an engine. A transmission heat exchanger is in thermal communication with transmission oil in a transmission. A pump has a pump inlet and a pump outlet. A valve assembly is in fluid communication with the pump outlet and has a first and a second position that at least partially establish different coolant flow modes through a plurality of coolant flow passages. The valve assembly has a first inlet that receives coolant that flows from the pump outlet, to an engine inlet, then through the engine to an engine outlet. The valve assembly has a second inlet that receives coolant that flows from the pump outlet and bypasses the engine. The valve assembly has a single outlet that directs coolant flow to at least one of the engine heat exchanger and the transmission heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20140352917
Abstract: A multi-paneled cooling module adapted to be mounted to an engine exterior protects electronic components such as sensors and associated wiring from heat loads of the engine and/or other heat generating engine devices. The module is formed of wall and ceiling panels having a relatively high thermal conductivity, such as aluminum. The cooling module, which includes strategically situated integral coolant passages within several of its panels, is adapted to protect all enclosed electronic components, including electronic pressure sensors, an EGR valve, and all associated wiring and wiring harnesses. For example, the sensors, harnesses, and valve components associated with and proximal to an EGR venturi may be fully protected from overheating, in spite of exposure of those components to massive heat loads generated by the venturi. Finally, the cooling module may incorporate additional cooling accommodation for hydraulic oil cooling if, for example, the EGR valve is hydraulically actuated.
