  • Patent number: 11421907
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus has a first mode and a second mode as operation modes. In the first mode, a degree of opening of a first flow rate adjustment valve is fixed to a first degree of opening smaller than 100% and greater than 0%, and an operation frequency of a compressor is varied in accordance with air conditioning performance required of a third heat exchanger. In the second mode, the degree of opening of the first flow rate adjustment valve is varied in accordance with air conditioning performance required of the third heat exchanger. When a difference between the air conditioning performance required of the third heat exchanger and air conditioning performance offered by the third heat exchanger becomes greater than a determination value, the operation mode is changed from the first mode to the second mode.

  • Patent number: 11187471
Abstract: A heat exchanger for severe temperature and fluid flow conditions in one configuration includes a first longitudinal shell, a second longitudinal shell, and a transverse shell extending transversely between the longitudinal shells. The longitudinal shells may be parallel to each other. The shells are fluidly coupled directly together to form a common shell-side space between an inlet and outlet tubesheet. A generally U-shaped assembly of shells is thus formed. The tube bundle has a complementary U-shaped configuration comprising a plurality of tubes which extend through the longitudinal and transverse shells between the tubesheets. An expansion joint fluidly couples each longitudinal shell to one of the tubesheets. The shell-side inlet and outlet nozzle may be fluidly coupled to the expansion joints for introducing and extracting the shell-side fluid from the heat exchanger. In another configuration, the heat exchanger may be L-shaped with tube bundle of the same configuration.

  • Patent number: 9957959
Abstract: For sustainable development, a refinery is required to save energy as much as possible so as to reduce the emission of greenhouse gas. In crude oil operations, oil transportation from storage tanks to charging tanks via a pipeline consumes a large portion of energy. It is vitally important to minimize energy consumption for this process. Since the oil flow resistance is proportional to the square of oil flow rate, the relation between energy efficiency and flow rate is nonlinear, which makes the problem complicated. The present invention addresses this important issue by formulating a linear programming model for the considered problem such that it can be efficiently solved. A real-world industrial case study is used to demonstrate the applications and significance of the proposed method.

The device may be used as either an alternative to a fuel burning or electric powered water heater or as a means to minimize the use and expense of such heaters.

Abstract: A direct contact segmented column heater is described. The heater is capable of a broad heating and cooling range, and exhibits a very rapid response, with heating and cooling rates better than 350° C. min?1. In one configuration one or more of the individual heating devices are provided with full independent control and temperature feedback, and developed to provide excellent thermal stability at all temperatures. The heating devices or in other words active thermal transfer devices are capable of bi-directional operation, selectively heating (i.e., providing heat to) or cooling (i.e., withdrawing heat from) a column and/or contents of a column.

Abstract: A heat exchanger for at least one thermoelectric thin film element, having a hot and a cold side arranged on opposite longitudinal sides of the thin film element. The hot side is connected to a coupling element on a warm source and the cold side is connected to a heat sink. The heat exchanger connects in a simple and active manner to the thermoelectric thin film element and improves the efficiency of the attached thermoelectric thin film element. Especially flexible thin film elements spread out between the coupling element and the heat sink of the heat exchanger and support the load between the coupling element and the heat sink by a thermally insulating support structure.

Abstract: A plurality of independently flow rate-controlled flows of oxidant may be preheated at a heat exchanger (or both oxidant and fuel at separate heat exchangers) by heat exchange with a hot shell-side (heat transfer) fluid. The separate flows of hot oxidant are directed to associated separate burners where they combust with flows of fuel to produce hot combustion gases. The hot combustion gases are used to preheat the hot shell-side fluid at a recuperator or regenerator.

  • Patent number: 8388919
Abstract: The present invention is based on the realization that the carbon dioxide component of industrial gas streams also containing steam can be processed so to utilize either as latent and/or sensible heat the heat available from the steam component to assist in separating carbon dioxide from the remainder of the gas stream. For example, flue gases produced by power stations burning brown coal, black coal or natural gas inherently contain a useful amount of energy that can be harnessed according to the present invention. According to particular preferred forms of the invention, nitrogen and sulphur constituent such as SOx and NOx, H2S and other nitrogen containing compounds may also be removed from the gas stream through direct contact with the absorbing medium and used to produce by-products such as fertilizer material.
