A female portion has mating sets of female formations formed on an inner surface thereof, with each set separated by a female gap and female knobs disposed around the inner surface. Each male gap is wider than each female formation and each female gap is wider than each male formation. The male and female portions can be mated together in a manner whereby the male sets occupy female gaps and the female sets occupy the male gaps and, thereafter, the male portion is rotatable in a counterclockwise direction relative to the female portion to interconnect the male and female formations, thereby preventing axial movement of one portion relative to the other portion.

The centralizers of the present invention are constructed to have an at least partially circular structure with a central hole. The preferred centralizer has an expanding circular structure wherein the diameter of the centralizer is substantially uniform so as to form an annular construction. Once deployed, the annular centralizer expands to engage the wellbore sidewall with the central hole expanded for passage of the well casing.

    Abstract: A test packer is lowered to a set liner hanger in a locked position that prevents the seal and slips from setting during running in. A first ball is dropped to shift a sleeve to release the grip of dogs to a groove on an outer housing. Setting down weight sets the test packer seal and sets the slips. After the casing integrity pressure test is done the test packer is lifted to again position the groove in the outer housing by the dogs. A second ball lands on the same seat now enlarged due to earlier movement and breaks a retainer on a locking sleeve. A spring return or continued downhole motion of the locking sleeve locks the packer in the run in position. Subsequent rotation and circulation can take place as completion fluid is circulated in. A circulation port above the packer can be opened optionally for circulation or reversing above the test packer.

    Abstract: A lock system works in combination with a mandrel to allow selective operation and disabling of a downhole tool. In the specific situation of a Smart Collet® the tool is locked from being able to find support when engaged to a mating profile as the tool is moved between landing locations. A lower housing features an external dog that in response to rotation takes with it a collet ring with circumferentially oriented fingers. An outer housing cams the collet heads into a respective groove in the mandrel. Reversal of such relative rotation between the upper and lower housings allows the collet heads to spring out of the mandrel groove for the unlocked position. The lock is adapted for use in a variety of tools. The rotation to unlock and then lock is accomplished by dog interaction with shaped internal profiles in a surrounding tubular assembly at strategic locations where needed.

Tension can be applied to the tubing string to move the top sub to the disengaged position, allowing the tubing string to be rotated without rotating the mandrel. The anchor can be moved to a different position, without pulling the tubing string to the surface, by removing tension from the tubing string to move the top sub from the disengaged position to the engaged position, rotating the tubing string in an opposite direction to release the anchor, and resetting the anchor by again rotating the tubing string. The top sub may also include a sealed internal volume of the swivel remains constant are.

    Abstract: A positioning tool engages a profile with retaining members such as dogs so that a pulling force can be applied for a predetermined time as a signal that the tool is at the proper location. The time delay is a fluid system that drives fluid through a narrow restriction. The restriction is variable to allow unloading of the resistance from the fluid system while the dogs are still adequately supported. As a result the dogs are released from the profile without regional overstressing. A lock can prevent the tool from resetting to limit its use to locating at a single location. The lock holds the hydraulic system in a defeated position so that even if the dogs engage another profile when locked they will immediately exit that profile.

    Abstract: A guide shoe that utilizes an eccentric nose attached to a cylindrical body that has spiraled, ridged blades extending outward from the body. An orientation system is attached between the body and a hollow shaft. The orientation system is designed to allow free rotation of the body and nose about the shaft during the insertion of the tubing into the hole. It does this by providing clearance between a pawl and notches on the cylindrical body. Indexing of the eccentric nose is provided by a slight retraction of the tubing string in the well hole. Friction between the well hole and ridged blade causes the cylindrical body to rotate about the shaft and lock into an oriented position. The guide shoe is attached to the tubing string by a threaded female connection mating to the matching male connection on the tubing string.

When the flow tube is in the second position, however, the dogs retract so the tool can be passed through the valve while the flapper is open.
